Now that Liverpool has failed to qualify for the Champions League, if what Duff said is irreversible, then he won't sign for them as he has stated he wants Champions League action! ;)
 
Financial situation at Liverpool....

£6million profit this years turn over. Good money.

Then there's the £15million transfer pot Ged always gets from sponsership/commercial deals etc.

Add to that the £9million we DIDN'T buy Lee Bowyer with.

Plus the £8million for finishing 5th.

And the £2million for winning the Worthy Cup.

CL and UEFA money doesn't count for much as we spent a lot of that before we got it this summer.

So we have the money, Shanks just thinks it'll come down to whether or not we have the pulling power.
 
So Houlliers' spending is potentially set to rise to 140m over the past 5 years.

Houllier has spent a total of £55m (£110m - £55 recouped) and has (apart from this awful season) brought us a long way on that.

If Ged spends £30million, expect at least 10m to be brought back in, that's his style.

He's not really brought you anywhere in my opinion and I don't just say that to antagonise you, I really don't think you've got very far with him at all. Your team should be challenging for the league and after 4 years, frankly you are still not challengers. The signings he's made are so numerous and many so inept that if I were you I'd be worried that he's been given another 30 odd million to tinker with the team again and effectively start the plan anew. Where's the continuity? He buys so much shite it beggars belief frankly.

Mr Houllier took us to the CL Q/Fs (where we were unlucky to go out) and got us 80 points in the league (which is what youse won it with) last year.

Shanks thinks he has took the squad on a long way having rebuilt almost from scratch. The only 1st team players he had when he took over that are here now are Owen and Carragher. And even they weren't regulars.

Shanks has faith in him, one bad season doesn't make you a bad side, United showed that after last year.

If Ged makes good use of the money the board will give him then we can look for a top 3/4 finish and a good cup next year.

Then we can buid onwards and upwards from that. :)
