I've realised over the last few weeks that the vast majority of football fans in this country don't want Liverpool to win the title. Any sort of forum or newspaper article comment section, check the Everton vs City match report comment section in the Guardian, seems full of neutral fans desperate for Liverpool to slip up.

Pretty remarkable when you consider they're up against a human rights abusing oil peddling plastic club like City.

I think everyone is dreading the utter mawkish wankfest that would occur if the unthinkable happened.

It is isn't it. As much as I hate the oil clubs and everything they stand for, I can't bring myself to back Liverpool over them. Says a lot about tribalism in football I suppose. City just don't matter as much as Liverpool do.

Just like the glory hunter tag for United fans is earnt, the absolute twat tag for Liverpool fans is earnt. Tribalism is half the story, the other half is pool fans acting like it's the 80s whenever they are a decent team.

It's not about the clubs, it's about their fans.

Liverpool fans - millions of them, deluded, annoying, won't shut the feck up if they win.
City fans - no fans to rub it in

This would be more than ok in my book.

First off we stuff the scousers, that goes without saying.

Then we lose to city, but city win by scoring a very dodgy penalty which Jones was involved in so really the only fault that can be directed at Ole is that Jones was on the pitch even though he was brought on as a sub in the last minute due to an injury.
The replay shows that STERLING was not only offside by a country mile but also dived as Jones was so late he missed him completely and somehow caught Young who unintentionally nearly brings Sterling down outside the box, but the dive saw Sterling smash into the far post and so the ref had no option.

This scenario ensures we save face whilst guaranteeing that the poor scousers go another season without a trophy whilst Klipperty sulks off back to Germany with the words robbed robbed tumbling from his mouth.

Journalists would love if they win it. Look at this tweet when Liverpool failed to beat West Ham who had shit loads of injuries.

And sympathy I presume for Spurs who are blown out of the park by Liverpool's spending and merely 5 points behind them?

I'm sure there is but he's responding to a report about the game between West Ham and Liverpool.

You blew spurs out the park as well with your spending in recent years how many points are you behind them again?

And City have missed their key player KDB nearly the whole season whereas Livepool have had all the rub of the green so there's that.

We're going through a transitional phase and letting the kids have their fun after lifting 13 PL titles. Some of them don't seem intent on winning despite nearly 3 decades of irrelevance.

The real point, before you waded in with your pointless post, was that this is a title race with teams competing. There's no reason to 'feel bad' for any team. At least not one that just spent a fortune recently. And not from an actually fecking journalist who supposedly should be neutral.

I think the point is whilst the media seem to want Liverpool to win, the football fans in general seem to not want Liverpool to win it. I think the media underestimate how much Liverpool are disliked by everyone.

It's an interesting situation.

Yeah there's definitely that feeling specifically in the media. Cant speak for footballing fans in general. But the media overwhelmingly is aching for a Livepool title most likely fueled by their many ex players doing mediocre punditry.

There's truth in that, sadly.
It's not that sad. People aren't really that arrogant except when doing the bantz. And there's no place as good as this for opposition fans. The caf treats it's (not) own well.

Journalist's are allowed to give an opinion, it's hardly their fault you can't deal with it. How is my post pointless? Just because i called you out on your post, you can't take it. You're the 2nd biggest spenders in the league and you're 9 points behind Spurs and yet somehow we're supposed to feel bad merely being 5 points ahead of Spurs?

Yes KDB has been out for many games but everyone knows City have more than enough quality in depth to cover that position.

There are mitigating circumstances that need to be taken into account before you assess our league performance in relation to our transfer expenditure, that being Jose Mourinho's appalling success rate in the transfer market and overall management of the club.

Had we begun the season with a fully competent manager in charge, rather than the travesty that was Jose Mourinho, things would have been very different I'm sure. Just look at what the relatively inexperienced OGS has achieved in his short tenure.

Oh yeah I really can't deal with it. Think I'm going to spend nights sleepless because of a journalists tweet

It's pointless because it brought tribalism whereas the actual point was journalists who usually pride themselves on neutrality coming out with the usual emotional fan talk.

"Cant take it" Scary shit

First point, if you look at it this way Chamberlain was a very important player for the attacking setup last season and he is yet to play this season.

Second point, You are letting the kids have fun because you won 13 PL titles ? In this case Barca and Madrid should do the same for the next twenty years right ?

Oups not quiet the same case, big clubs aim to win big trophies every year no matter their past glory, I guess thats because you became irrelevant since SAF retirement, you are basically becoming the new Arsenals and Liverpools of this country, when you start banging about past glory and legacy thats a bad sign.

Third point, they spent a fortune but also sold players for a fortune, in addition to coutinho' s fee they got very good fees for players like Solanke Ibe Ings..

It’s not so much that they underestimate how much Liverpool are disliked, it’s that a lot of them are Liverpool fans and just don’t care.

Comparing Kevin De Bruyne with a guy who had a run of about 10 good games. :/

Have I misread this or have you seriously compared the absence of de Bruyne to the absence of Oxlade-Chamberlain?

He's got to be a Liverpool fan? In the replys he's pulling out the same "net-spend" malarkey that I've only ever seen Liverpool fans use to claim that they've only spent £150m over the last 5 years and so can't be judged as if they've in fact spent almost triple that

It's games like vs Leicester and West Ham that a player like Coutinho would have been mega. Can thread a pass and actually posseses the ability to shoot from distance. Fekir should have been moved to in January imo.

Shame there are no big trophies psg are capable of winning really. Irrelevant club.

And ha ha ha at comparing the ox the kdb. Madness.

Hypothetical question- how many of you will be half happy if us losing to City at home means Liverpool won’t win the title? Assume it’s not like throwing away the game as that’s not accepted from any United team.

I would be. The hatred for Liverpool has been seeded so strongly in my childhood when City were a no team. I think it would be similar for many since I don’t know of any period when City were strong enough be called a bigger rival than Liverpool. I would even lose to City if it was Arsenal instead of Liverpool.

I hope he's joking.

To be fair, it's a bit harsh on Chamberlain, who actually was very impressive last season and really surprised me. But yeah, he's not even close to de Bruyne's level, and it's a baffling comparison.

And using baffling car analogies.

Firstly compare KDB with Salah or VVD if you want to make a real point.

Secondly, you lot appear to have taken my jibe rather seriously.

It will be interesting to see how they react. They have very good players, but none of them have major title winning experience unlike the likes of Hazard or Aguero or Silva who are used to these pressure situations. Talent may see them true but equally inexperience can cause a collapse.

I'd be fine with us blatantly throwing the game if it meant Liverpool not winning the title. In fact, the more blatant, the better. DDG and Romero up front. The scouse meltdown would be a sight to behold.

It is actually possible to be calm and focussed. Don't worry, I am confident OGS will have the lads perform, he understands this fixture......and then you can enjoy some Red Wine. xx

True that. Actually, Ole's awareness of the fixture's importance, along with players like Rashford, Lingard, and Pogba, makes me feel okay about it.

Ha ha, you're the first to get that aspect of my username. It's a play on the French for red wine, as you noticed, but I also live near Vancouver, BC, which is mostly referred to as Van, while the red part needs no explanation. Oh, and there are nods to some of our Dutch greats, like Van Nistelrooy and Van Der Sar.

We're in a position we need every point to get 4th so nah I still care about us finishing high than our rival losing the league tbh.
