Liverpool - 2017/18

attack was impressive & will be a nuisance

MF needs re-balancing** for me

Just watched the game for the first time. Our defending, especially the zonal 'marking' at corners, is inexcusable, fecking pathetic. I think my local U23s side defends corners better than that. Moreno, a player who wasn't ever deemed good enough by Klopp, STARTS the first game of the season after a supposed "make or break" transfer window. Our best defender was an 18-year old who wouldn't be starting either if Clyne was fit. Oh and of course, we threw away three points in injury time because of the non-existence of defence at a corner.

A draw at Watford isn't the worst result in the world but the manner in which it got done leaves little to the imagination that we're nowhere near good enough at the back, once again, to compete for trophies. You'd expect nothing else than 3 points if you score 3 goals at Vicarage Road. We made Stefano fecking Okaka look like a world beater out there. At least our attack is really enjoyable to watch but it's frustrating at the same time to expect a goal against every time Watford attacked.

Logically speaking if he has the sympathy of the dressing room doesn't it mean that it will be easier to integrate him into the team having denied him his dream move?
I also doubt that he 'has the sympathy of the dressing room'. That's clearly bollocks "hey lads let's all support Phil because if he goes it can only weaken our team and reduce our chances of actually winning anything" yaaaay ! As if the dressing room would want one of our best players to leave. It's beyond comprehension and anyone with an iota of intelligence could see through that, but then it's Sky, who are only interested in concocting headlines to keep the clicks flowing, so what else can we expect.

They wouldn't want him to leave, but they'd want the club to respect his wishes. Players tend to take their teammates side.

So what, they did a phone around to their rest of the squad? It's clearly bullshit

Can was alright. Usual from him of doing good stuff mixed in with some very avoidable mistake.

Henderson was fecking awful.

I'm assuming the rumour has no legs but we've been linked with Insigne from Napoli. I like him, he scores goals and gets assists but simple fact is he's not as good as Coutinho. Napoli are hard negotiatiors as well iirc.
I think I'd rather have Zielinski

Zielinski is overrated. Coutinho is a superior player.
Sure, also a different player, but Zielinski isn't overrated. He's one of the best box-to-box mids under the age of 25 in the world

I have yet to see it but I'm looking forward to him proving me wrong.

Serious question: what on earth does Klopp see in Hendo la? He's such a bang average player.

I know that question wasn't directed at me but I think the main thing Klopp loves about Hendo la is that he's a willing runner, energetic and at times he's got the ability to slow down our play in midfield to give us a bit of composure. He performs better against the better sides who give us a bit more time. Is he good enough to be our captain? No. Is he good enough to be a sqaud player? Yes. Also a sidenote to consider is that he looked a lot better before these injuries he's sustained, his legs have gone a bit, fecking terrible player in Holebass who's about 35 sprinted past him a couple times yesterday.

Thanks.

Yeah the captain thing is weird. I would give it to someone else if I was Klopp.

Well we aren't exactly blessed with leaders at the moment, besides after yesterday I think the manager may have bigger problems to address.
True. I just went through your squad in my head and can't think of any captains apart from Milner.

Yeah it's not good. Obviously us having no leaders either it be in defence or mdfield means there isn't any real organizing and steadyness when defending set pieces etc. September is around the corner I don't know when the hell they are planning on making these signings ffs.

Yeah I'd be extremely concerned if I was a Liverpool fan, mate. There just isn't enough quality or like you say, leadership, to grind out the 1-0 wins.

I was watching the first half of the PSG game yesterday and the commentator said Hoffenheim have one of the best set piece records in Bundesliga

Pool's squad for their CL tie:

Alexander-Arnold, Moreno, Lovren, Milner, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Can, Mane, Salah, Firmino, Kent, Solanke, Origi, Gomez, Klavan, Flanagan, Robertson, Matip, Grujic, Mignolet, Karius, Ward.

That just screams average to me. How the hell will they manage Prem League, Europe, FA and league cups this season?

At least with Spurs they have an absolute class first 11. That squad above is dire.

Quadruple incoming?

Think the illusion is about to end tomorrow, when we get to see Hoffenheim obliterate our side with their set-piece prowess.
Normally I'd predict a 6th-9th place in the league in a season with European competition and no signings, but this is Klopp, the man who nearly relegated a European powerhouse, so who knows?
Never seen a squad this thin in my life, at least not for a European season. Never seen a club that "aims high" with such an unprofessional transfer policy.

I don't think I need to stress that the match against Hoffenheim's a must win though, because Europa would be even more painful.

Coutinho's "back problems" smell like the inside of the airplane to Barcelona. Non-existent injury. We've seen many of those in the FSG era. And as much as Klopp likes to talk about how important the fans are, and how he's "one of us", he lies about injury status of his players a lot. He also lies about his judgement. Alberto Moreno was dropped last season after 2 or 3 games, yet here he is, having one solid performance in a friendly match, and "he's back"?

I don't buy it. I'm not really a baseball fan, but I wouldn't be surprised if Red Sox are in dire straits too. Something's not right at FSG HQ.

It's hard to say where both teams stand right now. Nevertheless, I expect Hoffenheim to go out on lack of experience.

Our squad is dire for a CL team. This transfer window is really looking like a failure.

Fsg really did play a clever one with all this talk of a £200 million warchest  I knew it was just talk but I still bought into it. Now that little judas **** has really added the cherry on top of a shit summer cake.

If they sort that defence out (big if) then Mane is the key to their season I think, he's absolutely brilliant. If he stays fit, they'll qualify for CL easily.

We (united) definitely missed a huge trick when we decided not to further our interest in him under the LVG regime. It'd have been a terrific January signing at the time.

Then again, he might have gotten us to sneak into 4th place and meant LVG kept his job (shudder).

I liked this from RAWK

FSG: How much for Keita?
Leipzig: £75m
FSG: 50
Leipzig: £70m
FSG: 50
Leipzig: £65m
FSG: 50
Leipzig: £60m
FSG: 50
Leipzig: ok sod it deal £50m
FSG: 45

I'm not sure about this, & think Liverpool will get through. Fans in this country are told all the time that their league is inferior to La Liga, Bundasligia, Seria A, & probably French league to, but despite this our sides usually manage to get through, even if not getting to the final stages. Yes, the top sides in these leagues are strong, but overall they are not. Look at Madrid the way they swatted that side the other day despite going down to ten men. Barcelona was their name.

They should play Milner in midfield. He is the closest thing to a holding midfielder in that squad

That and the fact we have a terrible record when it comes to Italian players. Absolutely abysmal in fact, especially fairly recently with Balotelli, Aquilani, Dossena etc.

Except for the player he'd be potentially replacing came from the Italian league, though I guess Cou is Brazilian. Besides I liked Dossena, I'll never forget his very special week

Ah, buying from the league is different to buying Italians themselves but I get what you mean :) Borini is another example of our hit rate with them.

Dossena will always be fondly remembered by some for that audacious chip, sadly that's about all he ever did right. Still better than the dude in his position now mind you.

I'd definitely take Dossena atm. He wasn't that bad. But he looked like a bald hedgehog.
