Good signing which adds pressure to our poor defenders
I’d play him with Varane against the big teams, against lower teams I’d try him as DM, mainly because lower teams are most likely going to play long ball which Maguire and Varane will be comfortable dealing with and martinez would help out in midfield with his dribbling attributes and his good passing, could help us against a low block.
Varane deserves a chance - hopefully he can remain fit. He’s a good defender. A priority would be selling Jones at this point. He earns to much and is never used. Won’t sell the captain wither, right? So he’ll stay. I’d rather have Jones and Lindelof go to be honest. Maybe Tuanzebe also at this stage (let him go to a smaller team and play, obviously he has not future as a regular at the club unless he suddenly steps up and impresses ETH - a miracle).
sell VDB? No way. We are already short on midfielders (even if we end up signing FDJ). Plus, id like to see him work with ETH this year. He’ll probably be a back up #10 after reading what Ten Hag said about him today.
Bailly, Jones and Tuanzebe are expected to leave.why do we need another CB? surely someone is leaving?
Could be… I think a midfield of de Jong, eriksen and Bruno would be good against lesser teams as there will be plenty of creativity and should easily dominate. Martinez will be good against fast attacks like Chelsea’s because of his pace. Ten Hag may also use a back 3 against top teams with varane, Maguire and martinez at the back, the benefits of that would be it can easily turn into a 4-3-3 during games with martinez pushing up into midfield if needs be.I could see the opposite. Martinez as a holding DM in front of Maguire and Varane against good teams, with Frenkie as an 8 and Bruno or Eriksen as a 10. Then against lesser teams, Martinez plays as the LCB and one of Varane or Maguire rests.
so why sign a 5"9 CB? I cannot think of many 5 ft CB flourishing in the premier league to my memory. I thought Ruben Dias was small but he 6"1Why would we be playing him at RB ? That makes no sense.
He will play CB.
Nope. He is pretty bad with his feet other than shot stopping. Plenty CB can play FB its not that foreign. While we are at it should we move DDG to CB since he is tall?

5 foot 9 inches in only 3 inches below 6 foot. Measure three inches with you hands and look... It isn't much.so why sign a 5"9 CB? I cannot think of many 5 ft CB flourishing in the premier league to my memory. I thought Ruben Dias was small but he 6"1

Eriksen? He'll be backup no.10 I would have thought.
FDJ
Eriksen
Fred
McTominay
Bruno
All players ahead of VDB. And I'd rather the fringe places go to the likes of Hannibal, Garner, Iqbal etc.
Is that a serious post? Varane is 6-3 and Maguire is 6-4. 5-9 is a midget CB.5 foot 9 inches in only 3 inches below 6 foot. Measure three inches with you hands and look... It isn't much.
If (and it is an if, because I don't know much about him) it is made up for with aggression, jump height , physical tenacity etc, then 3 inches isn't much.
That said, he'll have to have these extra attributes to make up for being a wee bit under height, I do get that.
ETH has already said that DVB should play behind the striker - so he is not considering him as a central midfielder

Will it work upfront though with Ronaldo? I liked the look of our forward line against scousers as there was plenty of movement and rotating which ten Hag obviously likes. Can’t see us being as fluid with Ronaldo upfront, obviously he’ll get us goals and plenty of it but will we be more predictable with him in the team and will we have to change the way we play to accommodate him? As for defence I think your right with the full backs and martinez will fit perfectly as LCB, the question is who partners him? When Maguire and Varane are both fit it has to be Varane but I can’t see him dropping Maguire if he’s made him captain.Based on the very very little we've seen so far, it looks like 4 at the back, with De Jong sitting, Bruno and either Eriksen or Fred as the 8s, Dalot and Shaw at fullback (backed up by lord knows at RB and Malacia at LB). That fits with Martinez at LCB. Then the attack is harder to say, since we have no idea if Cristiano is staying or not and if Rashford will be up for starting, though at the minute you'd say Sancho on the right and either Martial or Cristiano up top. But Antony out right and Sancho out left would also make sense, whether or not Cristiano stays, though it seems like financially it might be either or.
Are you denying that tall players tend to be better at winning headers than short players?Don't know why his height is that big an issue we have defenders who are taller who are crap with their head
So Varane was a flop? Are you serious? Maguire paired with a frequently injured Varane backed up by Lindelof and three lads who can't stay fit and are on the transfer list by all accounts. No I've no idea why we'd bring in a CB.
So Varane was a flop?
He’s on 340k a week and is either injured or crap. Yes, he’s a flop.So Varane was a flop?
There is also a chance he plays as a dm but drops into CB when we attack turning our back 2 to a back 3.
So Varane was a flop?
Human height doesn't work that way, 3 inches might not look much when you draw it out on paper, but add three inches to any human and he'll look a different unit. Stand a 6 feet guy next to a 6'3 guy and he'll feel small. 5'9 is a midget as a CB no amount of magical reasoning will change that fact.5 foot 9 inches in only 3 inches below 6 foot. I've never quite forgotten dreading 6'0 Daley Blind coming up against Romelu Lukaku only to absolutely rinse him every time they had a duel anywhere near the first third of the pitch. I think height is a bit overstated in football.Don't know why his height is that big an issue we have defenders who are taller who are crap with their head

I'm sure Alex Ferguson laughed off a load of questions about Javier Mascherano's height in a press conference before the 2011 final ... He realised even then that physicality was dead at that level of football. If you keep the football 80% of the game it's not a problem.

They agreed a fee for the kid from Home Alone todayNow we’ve got Verne Troyer signed who’s next?
More concerned about his lack of recovery pace than height especially with the counter attack being so important in the PL.
Add a high line to that and there could be issues.

Such disrespect of all the short kings.
Did he not say that Van de Beek can play in both roles?
