Lionel Scaloni| World Champion Coach

Di Maria is cooking. Scaloni masterclass to start him

They are going to lose this and not because of they were outclassed. But because the Scaloni wouldn't make a sub.

Great starting lineups and tactics, shit substitutions and adjustments

Should have took Messi off at the 70th minute and packed the midfield.

Showed his naivety today. When France changed the setup he should have changed too. I have no fecking idea why he kept on Tagliafico and had Acuna as left winger. Should have brought on Parades earlier to pack the midfield.

Argentina could have lost this 3 2 in the normal time.

He didnt change against Holland either. As seen today, he has issues adjusting to the opponent. He lets it flow far too much before taking action during games. Paredes, Lautaro and Lisandro should have come on after 70 minutes to kill the game off.

Acuna as a left winger made me curious too, mate.

It's hard to not absolute adore this bastard but where next? Argentina till 2026? A club job?

Incredible to think he didn't even have a club job before this, considering the tools at his hand he put on a masterclass on how to set up your team.

His subs are absolutely horrifying though, almost cost them twice , someone's needs to force him throughout a substitution 101 class .

Acuña can dribble and run on that left flank like Di Maria. Much worse in shooting and crossing and passing but better defensively. Really closest player to Di Maria they have. So it was as close as like to like.

But when Argentina beginning losing the mid, he should have brought Paredes for Tagliafico and dropped Acuña to left back.

Taking Di Maria off around 67 minutes was a big mistake from Scaloni. Could have cost them dear.

Even if DI Maria was gassed, his mere presence on the left wing caused France problems. And it was not like Argentina had to play another match in three days, thus saving Di Maria.

Definitely made a mistake taking Di Maria out... But he managed the end better with the insertion of Paredes, Dybala and Lautaro (who should have scored). He clearly prepared the shootout well and made the right calls there as well.

Just won the World Cup with a worse squad than Southgate.

Legend.

He won a WC with Paredes, Acuña, Romero, De Paul, etc...what a legend.

How ironic is Football that players like Zanetti, Redondo, Riquelme, Ayala, Aimar, Batistuta, Zabaleta, Cambiasso, Crespo, etc never even reached a WC semifinal

None of the players who won yesterday have an ego.

Some of the others did.

Literally the Copa and WC were OK, we have Messi the rest of us will work our asses off and do what the coach says, its our best chance before Messi retires and we're fecked.

They were willing to run themselves into the ground, frustrated opponents and then get a piece of magic to win a game

Why did Messi choose to shoot 2nd? I assume this was an instruction from Scaloni. Isn't it almost always better to shoot first?

Legend.

He had Messi intent on fulfilling his destiny.

Who did Gareth have? fecking Harry Kane and a wannabee Messi on Phil Foden?

Southgate had a good squad but my god to we overrated our players when we say things like this.

Argentina won the Copa and the WC because they actually have a decent keeper now. I hate Martinez with a passion, but he's the differentiator.

Argentina have always had good shootout goalkeepers. Goycochea, Romero, Martinez. But they're not that good outside of that so this is nothing new. Martinez a bit better but he's not elite. Only a few good saves in the tournament, including the one at the end.

That Acuna sub was dumb.
2 up, Di Maria running on fumes, and the French nowhere to be found the whole game.

He wanted to protect the lead. A mistake in hindsight but you get where he was coming from.

I think going 3-5-2 and bringing Lisandro on would've been much better. Martinez would've dealt with that mess on the left side better than Acuna or Tagliafico. His other subs were good tbf.

Brilliant young coach. He is much better than Southgate. Modern positive attacking football coach. Argentina's pressing, work rate, grit and team work was exemplary.

Ifs and buts... I think that he underused Lisandro Martinez throughout the tournament though. Then again a CB pairing is hard to break, especially during a tournament.

Seeing this might be his last year of international management I do wonder where he'll might end up next, lazio perhaps?

I know he wouldn't be exactly a fashionable choice for most but I do think he has a bright club career ahead of him as I've been generally impressed with how quick he seems to make tactical adjustments game to game to help his teams, the Argentinian connection would not hurt either in the way of drawing top Argentinian talents.
