I've said on here before that I don't think much of Messi, and that he'll never become one of the world's best players but after tonight, I'll have to take my hat off to Messi. What a fecking player, he'll surely become the world's best one day. Amazing performance.

you probably never saw him picked apart chelski last season at stamford bridge.

If you changed your mind that quick then what are the chances you will change your mind again when he has a shite game.

I've always rated him, he will be up there with maradona, pele, zico. Oh and our ronnie.

Rooney doesn't come close to Messi on form!
Ronaldo is probably the player who will challenge messi for the next best player!

I created a thread before that says that Messi is the closest to Maradona we will get.

My opinion on him hasn't suddenly changed tonight, I've started to watch quite a bit of Spanish football this season and I've been impressed with his performances, tonight just capped it all off.

ronaldo will win this year!!

but messi on form greater than ronaldo on form...

messi>>>ronaldo

ronaldo>>rooney

rooney>>>richardson

this shouldn't even be a debate!!!

No, Messi isn't better than Ronaldo on form.

Messi plays in a league where Forlan can be the top goalscorer. That says it all really.

Even though i enjoyed his hat-trick. Ronaldo > Messi.

No way, his last goal before this hattrick was back in October

exactly. he is better on today's match, but not on form.

i personally don't see the hype around messi. i have been watching barca games, and he is talented no doubt. but i dont see how people can say he will be up there with pele, maradona. had a great game, but one game doesn't make you great.

Yeah thats debatable!Ronaldo on form is magic too!

ronaldo on form is about taking 6 players on the pitch and scoring...

what messi can also do is play those quick cheeky passes,one-twos,off the ball runs and score...

have you ever seen a great ronaldo goal with a build up and all,its always him...

Yes, that's debatable. Varun said that Messi is clearly better than Ronaldo which isn't true.

I think Ronaldo is better because he can do everything, Messi is a good dribbler but apart from that, for instance, he can't head or cross very well.

Dont forget that he´s been injured a lot last season and this season.

I take it you never watched Rooney last year. Rooney on form is an absolute delight to watch.

Ronaldo and Rooney are both better than Messi.

one great game???

who you kidding...

his last goal was in october because he's been injured since then...

Georgie Best > Kaka, Messi, Rooney and Ronaldo.

Yes he is !He probably only behind Ronaldo and Messi!

we are talking about a better player...

as much as i love ronaldo i have never seen a goal in which he exchanged about some 5 to 10 passes...

Maybe. I've wondered how it would be if any of those listed played in the standard of football that was around back then. It would be interesting to see how much worse the defensive standard was in the 60s as opposed to our era. Football was a lot more open then.

since giggs, i haven't seen a player who can run at top pace with the ball glued to his feet. if u notice, messi doesn't fanny about with tricks as much as ronaldinho or ronaldo. He uses supreme balance and agility as well as having the ball glued to his feet to just run around opposing players like they were buoys.

those who are just opening their eyes to messi are a little behind the curve...messi's been mint since he's been playing in barca's first team.

That said, i'd still rather have ronaldo because messi wouldn't be able to take the kickings taht ronaldo recieves for a full 38 game league season.

ronaldo and messi will be world greats.. rooney will be juz behind them.. sorry

If I had to choose I would prefer Ronaldo over Messi everytime.

The only player who could be better then either of those two is Kaka. Now he is truly fantastic.

Either way, I think Ronaldo will be the best player the world has seen in two-three seasons. He will be player of the season next season.

The defenders were allowed to play really dirty in those days. So it wasn´t that easy for the attackers.

he doesnt need to. he just dribbled past 5 players and scored.
:D

We would have finished 4th last year without Rooney. He was that good. He carried us and it is a shame that it has already been forgotten. Ronaldo and Messi were not as good as him last year.

Don't think Ronaldo, Kaka or Rooney would struggle too much with their upper body strength. Messi would probably find it problematic even if he is brilliant.

taking a neutral non-english bias point of view rooney's no where near messi... he comes close to messi only when he's at his best.... other days he has a poor touch, finishing is average, and he seems to have become a mediorce passer... he's only where he is because of his determination and fighting spirit, the day that goes he'll permanentaly become what we see of him today.... or has it come alderdy.../??

Not forgotten anything!I fcking love Rooney! But fact is a fact! Messi is just 19!And has a lot more potential!Just my opinion!

If you put Ronaldo in that match, he probably would have scored about 5 goals! The defending was disgusting and he would have torn Madrid apart.

agreed, but on the flip side...from the grainy black and white match videos taht i have seen, and with what my dad has told me, team defending and defensive tactics were no where near as sophisticated or suffocating as today. Im not going to get into an argument over which era was better for football, each generation has their heroes.

you people forget so quickly... ronaldo wasn't macha man when he joined here... he kept whining and diving... it takes time to settle, just see martins newc...
