Lionel Messi \ Signs for PSG

PSG seems most likely but I think even they would insist on a pay cut. I mean he will probably still be on well over half a million per week but I don’t think he will get his Barca wage.

If they pass on him of course then he’s going to have to take a real heavy pay cut or find himself unemployed. Only if PSG for some mad reason don’t go for it do we have a shot.

People abuse Barca but seems our fans wouldn't mind driving us off cliff either.
It is Messi though, I would gladly watch United get relegated and bankrupt in 5 years if it meant I can watch Messi here for the next 5 years.

If I was a billionaire I’d personally pay for his transfer if it were allowed.

We should try anyway if it’s for two seasons, transfer pays for itself.

His fanbois kept telling me that he was doing nothing wrong by asking for huge wages at Barcelona, pushing them to the brink of financial ruin.

They said that if Barca don't pay, there will be several clubs to pay even more.

He wasn't doing anything wrong.

The fact that Barca can't afford the money he wanted (because of their own inept dealings) is on them, not him. They don't have a divine right to employ Messi.

Good shout that it may be done with a glancing eye at La Liga. You could see a situation where they relent and he just signs as a free agent.

According to The Athletic's coverage of the situation, it sounds like a ploy to pressure La Liga into giving them leeway with the wage cap.

The league would be losing its biggest star.

Looks right.

I'll sell 2/3 of my company and pay for 6 months of Messi's 500k pw salary. Sign him up Woody.

On a more serious note: A lot of Agüeros motivation to even join Baca would have been to play with his best friend, Messi. I'm sure he's not hyped.

I am so weirded out that La Liga don't suspend the FFP for the Corona impact season. It's the only reason Messi is now forced to leave, and so many clubs have struggled to get under the salary cap roof.

That's insane. Feels like brinkmanship from Barca towards La Liga.

La Liga to cave on their policy in 3.....2......1.....

He's still going to be playing for them next season. It's just all drama. La Liga also know that he brings in a lot of eyes. Wouldn't surprise me if they do cave.

Barca must be saving a fortune without those wages. Sad that it seems so sudden and that he doesn't get to say goodbye to the fans.

PSG should be favourites surely?

Yeah, it's not a happy ending for Messi leaving after playing a full season without fans.

Sounds like you're more of a fan of the player than of the club. Weird attitude.

5 Years? He's 34. I think you'd be lucky to get three years out of him and he's already a fair bit below his absolute peak.

sounds like a decent company..

He'll back back at Barcelona in a few days. Its a power play between Barca and Messi v la liga finanical rules.

He's good, but not quite quick enough and his head is too big for his body

He's also 34 years old. Way past his prime. Not worth it.

I'll prefer to focus on developing Daniel James instead.

Also we have Martial.

Kane must be bricking it. City would gladly spunk every penny they were going to throw at him for Messi instead

  • Adidas will step in and cover his wages
  • His shirt sales will pay for his wages
  • He generates enough revenue to cover his and Pogba's wages

Nothing more needs to be said, make it happen Woodward.

The fact that literally six mins after Barca's announcement there are exclusives from journos that City won't try to sign him... It seems planned.
