Best thing Barca could do was get Messi off their wage bill. Of course he's still a world class player but signing him on those ridiculous wages would've hamstrung an already crippled club. Short term pain, long term gain.
All this saga is missing now is a ‘banter’ tweet from an alehouse club in the Scottish Premiership or English League One saying “We are ruling ourselves out of the running to sign Lionel Messi” and Football Twitter will shower them with cheap RTs and likes.

Yeah but it’s been worse than most could of thought. Barca spending 350m on Dembele, Coutinho and Dembele set them back loads. With Real not only did they lose Ronaldo Modric, Kroos were also declining and Ramos was too then left. They have big rebuilding jobs and yes all teams go through it the problem is both don’t have as much money as it would take to challenge.
