Lionel Messi \ Signs for PSG

This is going to turn into a full-blown Qatar vs UAE conflict...

Bet he takes an even bigger paycut to stay
He's much more suited to the #9 in Pep's system than Kane, it will be tragic if he joins City.
By Messi's own admission he is now a playmaker than a goalscorer. I think he would be better suited to a Silva role with runners around him.

Mbappe staying in PSG = Real going for Haaland.
Of course it’s a possibility but a player like Haaland will pick the best scenario to win trophies from the get go and have a good team around him. Madrid are due for a huge rebuild and I doubt Haaland will want to go there now. Maybe in a few years sure.

Won't be surprised if Messi is joining City, with a "massive pay cut".

Obviously we should sign Messi as soon as possible.

Then, out of nowhere, announce Ronaldo as well.

The prospect of Ronaldo and Messi on the same team will effectively break the internet. We can manufacture a shirt with both of their names on it, and probably sell ~50m of them. At £40 per shirt, that's £2bn which will pay both of their wages for the next two years.

Also, we can play them either side of Edinson Cavani and have a front three with a combined age over 100, so they'll get a telegram from the Queen.

Best thing Barca could do was get Messi off their wage bill. Of course he's still a world class player but signing him on those ridiculous wages would've hamstrung an already crippled club. Short term pain, long term gain.

All this saga is missing now is a ‘banter’ tweet from an alehouse club in the Scottish Premiership or English League One saying “We are ruling ourselves out of the running to sign Lionel Messi” and Football Twitter will shower them with cheap RTs and likes.

Are we at a point where people complaining about "funny" league two club tweets are more annoying than "funny" league two club tweets?

It isn’t official until that happens

If he goes to PSG, surely Mbappe would rather stay there than join Real's project.

A bigger favour would probably have been.....lessening his ridiculous wage demands.

Nah, dont think Messi thing is for slow removal, just rip it out and rebuild, saw a post how Barca is done without him, yea right.

10 pages so far, geez. Any rumors as to where he is planning to go? I love Ronaldo but I would take Messi in a heartbeat, fecking hell. Just never entertained the thought as it has always been impossible, but but but but.......is there a chance????

No

If Barca are so desperate make him a shareholder, director or give him a portion of the ground. That way he plays for free with payments coming to him from a different source. It's a way around La Liga rules.

Simples!

RIP La Liga. You have to laugh at how quickly the two Spanish giants have fallen, and yet it’s sad in that the balance of power continues to concentrate on a decreasing number of clubs. Football is dying.

I think legally they have to pay him.

But at the end of the day, he could sign for £20k a week if he loved the club so much.

But he doesn't.

There’s no RIP, Real & Barca will be just fine. Was always going to be a period of transition for them after hogging the two best players in the World for so long.

So, Messi actually doesn't want to leave Barcelona, and this is due to the club's salary cap? I thought Messi himself wanted out.

In that case, I think the club and his representatives will find a way for Messi to stay. This "official statement" is just a way to put pressure on La Liga.

Yeah but it’s been worse than most could of thought. Barca spending 350m on Dembele, Coutinho and Dembele set them back loads. With Real not only did they lose Ronaldo Modric, Kroos were also declining and Ramos was too then left. They have big rebuilding jobs and yes all teams go through it the problem is both don’t have as much money as it would take to challenge.

You can see even in the CL over last few years how bad both have dropped off and with the PL money plus most of the top coaches coming here it’s going to be hard for them.

Sure I seen a thing on Twitter when Leeds where in the Championship in 19/20 they had 23 games on sky and got more tv money than Bayern Munich. Sure didn’t Sky buy the Bundasliga?

Chelsea quietly withdrawing their Lukaku bid anyone? Instead of giving 100M to Inter, just give it to Messi instead.

Sounds like posturing vs. La Liga and he’ll stay at Barca

They’ll bounce back, but I don’t think they’ll be the same powerhouses they were before. This is the long expected day of reckoning of trying to keep pace with clubs who simply have more financial clout than they do now.

Might be past his peak at 34 but he is still an amazing player! 30 league goals last season is very impressive.

Mbappe wants to leave psg because the team is not strong enough

But if the team is this:
donnarumma
Hakimi - marquinhos - sergio ramos - bernat
Verratti - paredes - wijnaldum
Messi - Mbappe - Neymar

with the like of di maria, kimpembe, navas, icardi, sarabia, gueye on the bench

And if he still leaves, I don t understand. That’s a massive upgarde from last year

I'll believe it when I see it.

If he does leave it will be for a last payday in a farmers league, France at best. I could see him doing the US. The money would be astronomical.
