Lingard to join West Ham on loan

Only thing I'd say is he'd be more useful than DvB has been.

I still don't think he's what we need and if he could be used in a deal to get Rice then obviously that's the best option.

Jesse Lingard, West Ham player thread loading isn't it? They better pay up. I'm really happy for him. He'll always be one of us. Should raise enough funds to buy a defender or midfielder in the last year of their contract. Rice can stay where he is if West Ham continue their silly valuation.

No he didn't, he played as a no.10 the half season before we signed Bruno, he got plenty of minutes under his belt in that position and he looked like a league 2 player there for us. He's decent when he plays for a side where the opposition don't put 10 men behind the ball. A team like West Ham is perfect for him.

He is a good player when playing a club as a underdog, pressing, explode a distance, off the ball to the wide area which is his strengthened weapon.
So, he looked good under Jose team.

His horrendous form over a prolonged period of time was more than enough reason. This is without his semi-regular arseholery off the field, too.

Lingard is doing well at West Ham because he’s a fairly good player, full of confidence.

We take the money and run this summer. It suits all parties.

I agree with this and I'm not saying he should have been a starter here but there was a role for him in this team. Players like Lingard are who you keep on the bench at a top 2 club. He could come on to help protect a lead by keeping defenders pinned back, could replace Bruno in cup games and could be a good tactical option for counter-attacking gameplans.

At this point we've simply strengthened a potential top 4 rival for free!

Yeah, he is just buzzing around, taking on players, beating them for fun and linking up so well. His energy, movement, link up is all very good.

I guess the question is whether he could do the same for United.
If he could, then why sell him to one of our rivals.
We could do with some energy and creativity on the right.

A player almost ruined by his own 'fans'

This is a reminder of how important confidence is in sports.

He really deserves his call up to the national team

He can do it and always has been able to do it.
Confidence is key, he had some issues, it appears he has dealt with them and the move to West Ham has given him the run of games he needed to get back to full sharpness.

He couldn't unfortunately that's why he is at West Ham , he had one spell under Mourinho where it looked like everything was coming together for him but he simply couldn't sustain it .
It's not as if he wasn't given enough opportunities it's best for all the concerned parties that his transfer is made permanent in summer.

Many player can't cope with the pressure and scrutiny of playing for such a huge club. Mental strength is as important as the physical talent.

It's not as if he came from a small club. He grew up at United and was good under LVG and to an extent under Jose too. It's not as if he couldn't handle the pressure of playing for United.

He's better than Dan James but I don't think he wants to be a squad option at United any more and fair play to him.

He's clearly very good when he's on form.

Different playing as a 10 vs a right winger. Also Lingard is one of those who needs an important role, like he has at West Ham. He can't get that role at United and generally we play against much deeper defences than west ham which doesn't suit him.

How come he is so good now? What happened to him at United?
Confidence and not being stepped on by supporters after every game. You can see how toxic some of fanbase are towards our players and manager before, during and after games. Players are humans and some are affected more then others. He can play in WestHam without pressure and when you get good start it is just to keep going.

This. I think there is less pressure at WH.

Oh, look at that. People flocking to Lingard's defence as if it wasn't his fault he was such a poor footballer for us for so long. It's everyone fault but himself. How come he seemed to be the only one so adversely affected by these so called toxic Manchester United fans calling him out for being shite? Rashford gets just as much as stick as Lingard does and he put in decent performances and had a great output in terms of goals and assists. Meanwhile, Lingard went an entire year without a goal or assist. It's just revisionist bollocks.

Or ruined by his terrible performance for us over a long time, may be.

Exactly.. he does well at West Ham and it seems like everyone forgot how horrendous he played when he played for Manchester United.

He was hardly a footballer but more of a meme at some point. People had to come up with things like 'pressing/defending attacking midfielder' , 'high energy' and 'worldclass movement' to defend him because there was nothing else to praise him with.

No goals, no assist (for a whole season while playing regular for Manchester United), looked bad in Europa league and against lower tier league and fa cup match opponents. Ole gave him a lot of chances (too many) and he didnt take one of them.. just like goalscoring chances, he missed all.

Sell him while his value is high. Manchester United needs better players.

He has proven he can't. Sell and move on.

If he wants to go then fair enough, we shouldn't stand in his way. But if he's happy to come back and compete with Van de Beek?

He was always a very good player. His confidence was completely shot, the pressure of playing for a club United's size has beaten lots of players before Lingard and it will always do so.

Lingard has found his level, he's a big fish at West Ham and its great to see him enjoying his football. It's a shame we can't keep him with this kind of form, as he would be a great option from the bench and on a rotation basis, but it just wouldn't work now.

He isn't competing with VDB but Bruno. VdB can play as 6 as well.

He is not good enough for us. Would happily drive him out for 25m.

In what world is that a like for like swap? They’ve valued Rice at £100m minimum, Rice is 6 years younger.

Where did I say it would be like for like? I'd involve him in a swap for Rice.

Also 100 million value for Rice is the stupidest thing I've ever heard in Covid times especially.

It'd be like 60 + Lingard and even that is overpaying

He's a good player, but also helps not to be playing against low blocks and not being man marked the same way Bruno is.

Wouldn't pay more than 50all in for him.

Lingard and 30/35 max

Family issues and online abuse from "Manchester United fans" killed his confidence.

Or, both were used rather crassly to deflect from the true issues at hand: his attitude and form, both of which were poor for a long time.

There might have been a role for this Lingard. But we had no reason to believe that we’d see this one, primarily because of the two years that preceded it. Sometimes players need a clean break and there is no better evidence of this than Lingard at West Ham.

But Lingard is worth at least 20m and that would make it 80m for Rice.

Who knew that loaning out players rather than letting them rot not even making the subs bench could increase their value? Can't believe it took us so long to realise that. Unfortunately I can already see us rejecting £25m bid from West Ham in the summer and offering him a new ridiculous contract.
