Lingard signs new £100k 4 year contract (Sky) | Official: Option to extend for a further year

You equated the two as if trusting one meant trusting all managers. Moyes was (is) an idiot, Mourinho is not.
Why would Fergie give him the job if he was an idiot? He wouldn't have lasted at Everton for ten years if he was

The Mourinho is more knowledgeable argument is rubbish. Pretty much all the top managers in the PL will be more knowledgeable about football than people on here. Doesn't mean they can't make poor decisions and mistakes

So when Fergie signed Bebe or Djemba-Djemba or Taibi, etc etc and the list goes on - who was the idiot there - difference is Fergie recognised his mistakes and corrected them - has Mourinho the ego to allow himself to admit to a mistake? unlikely ,no he'll compound it by giving a poor player a bumper contract and pick every opportunity to validate his opinion by dropping players like Martial and Shaw at the earliest opportunity.

Fergie was the best but he still made mistakes, everyone does

There's an enormous difference between a duff signing and giving a player you've been working with for almost a year a new five year deal. Which you know full well.

The bit in bold is, unsurprisingly, nonsense.

Why because it couldn't be true and that is because... Mourinho is picking Lingard . You think Lingard is a good player, there's nothing more nonsensical than that.
Trying to find stats that try and disprove what fans can see with their own eyes.

I've not cited a single stat and you're breathtakingly arrogant to think you speak for all fans. You're also talking shit, as you always are on this subject so there's no use discussing with you. I'm out.

So we are reduced to the manager who has won countless trophies vs random internet punters who think they know more about football than him. Interesting.

If one accepts that we are 6th and not second because we aren't scoring goals, then it follows that lingard, a squad player is not the problem here. He will only get better as he gets stronger imo.

You actually think Jose (A manager who's won pretty much everything and hates losing) offered a player a new contract AND drops better players just because he has an ego? Absolutely mental. fecking ludicrous.

There's something wrong when the preferred players of the manager of Manchester United are Fellaini and Lingard!
He's our manager and we must support him, but some of his decisions are really strange, like giving Lingard that contract.

Agreed. He's just a convenient scapegoat by some who are broadly frustrated by our lack of goal production in the final third. Ultimately, its a complete team effort and we haven't demonstrated the confidence or killer instinct to put teams away. Once we sort that out, we will be nearly impossible to beat.

Agree with this.

We need players like Lingard, local lads who love the club, and accepts to be a squad player.
I'm sure Lingard himself knows he's not the star on the team, and is happy to do his best when he gets the chance.
We can't have a squad full of star players who expects to play every single game, and starts whining when they are out of the team for a week or two.
We need some Lingard's and O'Shea's in the team too.

It was a fair comment. He didn't say he was similar to Alli on all fronts, just on those two.

Still he is nowhere near similar. He also has a similar hairstyle Raoul. Doesn't mean you compare them. That's a bit like saying James Cordon is like Brad Pitt because they have the same haircut when in reality the rest of him proves the haircut irrelevant.

Yes you are right he has been given this contract and playing time just to annoy you.

C'mon get real ppl the guy is a good footballer and we have worse problems than Jesse Lingard .

Yes he isn't a superstar but we can't have eleven superstars not do you need eleven to be successful Iv heard the same statements his haters have said here about players like Gary Neville ,O Shea Darren Fletcher and countless others as well .
For one I dislike the term "haters" sounds pathetic, I don't hate him, i don't think he is good enough for Man Utd and is part of the problem not the solution.

Secondly I can't stand this old argument "we can't have a squad of stars"
I agree, but where is anyone suggesting we have a bench of galaticos? Find one poster saying.
What I am saying as wel as others, is that he isn't good enough to be at united in general, all those players you mentioned were far superior than lingard

Probably the worst and least accurate analogy in the CAF's history. It's perfectly acceptable to compare the two players without suggesting both are on the same level.

Has a decent shot on him, creates chances at the same ratio to Mata and Micki. Not going to find a common ground with you, so better leave it at that. :)
This decent shot myth needs to die off, he's scored a handful of decent goals, it doesn't make him Carlos.
If he had a decent shot, going off the stats posted earlier with regards to shots taken, he'd have lampard style numbers this season

We haven't been outplayed with those 2 midfielders in the team so whats the problem?

Liverpool have excelled with so called average players and so did Ferguson but they worked really hard for the team.

Haters work because that's what it is pure hatred and totally irrational hatred as well of a very decent squad player playing for the club he loves and who has scored two cup final goals so far before he even hits 100 games

Off course it won't matter what he does people will still hate because he isn't Griezeman or whoever but then that's what haters do .

This is pathetic, he's not hated , he is a poor player, end of - if he was a good player he wouldn't be criticised - turning up once in a blue moon is not enough although apparently it is for some.

It's a immature phrase, again absolutely no evidence of anyone saying let's have a team of super stars, we all know it's a squad game. Lingard isn't good enough for the squad, players like lingard hold us back, there is plenty of justification just watch 90% of his games where he does nothing, I doubt he'd improve palace let alone play for united

How have Liverpool excelled? It's going to be another empty season for them, they are so inconsistent, ferguson had better players to call upon, Nani for example was a squad player and is twice the player lingard is. Same goes for Park and Solkjaer as examples, yes we had squad players but they were effective and didn't bring the level of our game down as much as he does

Probably the worst and least accurate analogy in the CAF's history. It's perfectly acceptable to compare the two players without suggesting both are on the same level.

Lol so the comparison is pointless in the first place?

Still funny how much this has wound people up.

It's even funnier in the sense that the same people that accept him getting this contract will then be the same people getting angry in the match day thread when we play average yet again and end up losing or drawing and they can't understand why it's happened.

It's because our squad is full of average players like lingard. We aren't getting back among europes elite so long as players like him are starting for us that's for sure.

It can be an aesthetic comparison or in that case a mental comparison, their approach to pressing and moving is similar.

These sort of comparisons need to stop. I get what you are trying to say mate but Neville and Fletcher were far superior players to Lingard. Nev was one of the best right backs in europe at one point, will Lingard ever be one of the best in his position? What is his position?

Fletch was a top midfielder at one point before his illness, not world class but very, very good at a time when we had a strong squad. Even O'Shea while playing a different position was for my money a step above Lingard.

Lingard is a decent little player, works hard, doesn't complain (probably) and he's a good squad player. But here's the thing he's a good squad player for a 6th placed Premier League team who plays in the Europa League. If we want to kick on and compete for league titles and champions leagues. Then we are going to need 1st choice and more importantly 2nd choice players a lot better then Jesse Lingard.

I don't think Lingard would even make the bench of any of Fergusons great sides, and thats the level we should be aiming for.

There are only 3 or 4 of these rabid haters here. What they lack in reason they more than make up for it by spending unlimited energy and time. And bile too, of course.

Ok, it's funny.

And are we even sure he gets the £100k that was reported by SSN?

I can see the value in signing a local player who is loyal to a long term deal. I doubt he'll be a mainstay in the team once Mourinho gets the players he wants, instead he'll be used for rotation when needed.

Doesn't mean Jose doesn't make mistakes, which he does quite often. I crucified him a few years back over on a Chelsea site for his handling of KDB and laid into the Mourinhonistas who had been taken in by Jose's demagoguery.

Lingard is a poor man's Welbeck. If Liverpool had handed out a 100k pound deal to Jonjo Shevey everyone here would have been running over to RAWK to laugh at how the contact was being spun.

Not me so not everyone and i doubt too many others seriously care what one player is getting paid by their club bar the few here that apparently can't sleep at night so furious are they that United rate a player they hate

You know what this makes me realise ? The people that can't stand Lingard and Fellaini etc are spoilt fans spoilt by Uniteds success as it's all they have known and can't handle the fact we are currently a way from being that successful again

And they will sit happily on the bench without complaining !!! Great logic

You should care because player salaries affect the prices that are charged for tickets, merchandise, tv etc.

I don't think anyone hates Lingard they're unhappy that this signing shows poor business acumen because his play and future potential don't warrant the contract he received.

Be a way from being the top doesn't justify bad business.

I can't believe people are still moaning about this, it's done get over it and support him he is one of our own.

I for one am glad he has signed a new deal, i have followed him since he's days in the youth teams and always thought he had what it takes to make it here.

I admit he isn't the best in the world but he will be an important player for our squad for years to come.

Again you're talking nonsense, some of us lived through 26 years of no titles , just an occasional cup win - Lingard wouldn't have got in the side then either - maybe we're all a bit spoilt but we're not Wigan Athletic.
If you're happy with mediocrity then why not bring back Van Gaal, he won the FA Cup for us.

We have to progress, this is not progress

Just playground stuff, Lingard as always is an easy target, even though is actually contributing more than alot of our players just now, and has achieved something many of our so called 'future stars' (Jaunuzaj, Wilson, Powell, Depay, Morrison, etc) hasn't, and actually worked his arse off, made the best of what he's got, and carved out a place in the squad, no mean feat, and well done to him.

Actually most of the people in the match thread you speak of always have an answer as to why it happened. It's usually Lingard or Fellaini's fault.

Yes we do have a lot of average players and that will probably be corrected in the summer, but Lingard is not one of them. It is first teamers we need who are top level footballers to fill up a few starting spots.

Him starting this much is just because there isn't anything better to choose from right now, and he has some traits that Mourinho values in a player.

Shelvey gets 60k and he plays in the championship. Lingard gets 75k.
