Liam Delap - Ipswich Town

yup! Son!

I hope we can get him for Ireland…

Edit : he can’t as he’s played U21 for England recently. The rule would have been handy for Rice and Grealish who would have instantly been our best players

Yeah he's been a main stay in England youth for a while now

Know your getting old when even real life is producing regen players.

Looks a great talent. Word of warning though, people were saying very similar things about the Brighton lad Ferguson last season and now he’s struggling to get in their team. Let’s give him a couple of years to develop and then pounce. We really need guarantees not gambles up front now!

Seeing him linked with us today. Seems like one of those battering ram type strikers that are super limited, to me. I dunno

It looks like he has a bit more to him but I've not seen massive amounts of him.

Can finish, a bit of mobility and happy to press and get physical with defenders. Dont think hes starting lineup material if we're getting back to the top 4 but he'd offer more than our striking options other than Hojlund when he plays well which isnt every week

If we move Zirkzee on or he becomes a rotation option for the 10 roles, then it could make sense to have Delap as competition for Hojlund. But in reality signing a striker who will probably get us 20 goals if we start them is a better option

Thought he played well against United but I was nonetheless quite surprised to hear Danny Murphy (in my opinion a more knowledgeable pundit than many give him credit for), call Delap an excellent all-round striker, and the natural successor to Kane.

High praise indeed, though maybe premature.

Danny Murphy is okay (it's a bit awkward when he seems desperate for Simon Jordan's approval).

Working for Talksport just demands a constant stream of "hot takes" for clicks.

Can’t say I’ve seen loads of Delap but from what I have seen I’m impressed. Bit surprised city didn’t keep him as a back up for Haaland.

They don't keep want away players.

They also give players 2 seasons to prove themselves.

It's actually a good system tbh.

So what are the Caf thinking about having him for our main striker next season?
20% sell on the Ciddy isn't a pleasant thought.

I think he has more to his game than Hojlund and Zirkzee. His hold up play seems very good. Admittedly I don't watch enough games to see how his finishing is - quite difficult to judge as if you only go by highlights its hard to see how many chances Ipswich gives him.

Is he what we need to get back towards the elite? Probably not, but we're far away from being elite again for a reason and I think its something we need to accept. I've said it plenty of times in other threads - I'd prefer a player who's ceiling may be less but who's profile suits our style and can be effective because of it. Saying that, Delap's ceiling may be quite high.

I think it will be interesting to see how he does regardless of where he goes. Always tricky to judge a striker in a struggling team.

Don't care about city getting a % of the fee. They print their own money and don't have to follow any FFP/PSR rules. So it won't make much difference.

Delap would be fine if we already had Kane, but we don't. And having him as the main striker at this stage isn't going to help him nor help us much either.

I'd have no issues with him as a striking option. Wouldn't like him having the pressure of being the main/only man like Hojlund has but he's a good player and looks like someone that you can swing a cross in with some hope he'll get on the end or someone that will have centre halfs knowing they've been in a game.

We can't do that anymore really, we are skint. If we want to buy players (especially young, talented, English players) we need to be getting them before they explode.

Another young striker? Don't really see the point, people say he's "PL Tested" but at the same time he has never played for a big club and the pressure is different, we need a top striker and Delap isn't there yet.

Think he would be a great signing and I'd imagine he won't break the bank if Ipswich were to go down.

He's done very well for Ipswich this season, and the type of striker where CB's know they've been in a game even if he doesn't score. He has more to his game than simply being a poacher, he can run the channels, pin defenders and can dribble decent enough. He's also at a good age to kick on now and develop into a top striker.

Not sure what his price tag will be if he keeps up his form and Ipswich go down as they spent £20m on him in the summer and he's kicked on since then.

Has potential, but not ready to be the leading striker for United. We need someone who has the experience and someone closer to the finished article who can come in and lead from the front, before we can expect some youngsters to actually develop properly.

Going to be a top striker. Already has that nasty streak to him. It's very important at the top level.

My Ipswich mate doesn't think he would ever be good enough for a CL level side. Apart from that, I think he has looked good and better than Hojlund, but not sure that is the right move for us right now unless we were to sell Hojlund while also getting a couple of proven quality forwards (a proven CF and a 10/wide forward). We need to add some real proven goals to our squad, we have struggled for goals for far too long.
