Let’s not make Europe next season

We are not winning the league next year. Let's at least try to win Europa or conference. For players like Garner, Hannibal, Laird, Garnacho etc will be a really valuable experience, even if they play 4-5 European games only.

Honestly, the 2016-2017 run in Europa League was the most exciting thing that has happened to the club since 2013.

I wouldn't mind the Europa League. Its got some prestige, the cl reward, and we usually have one spicy tie when we're in it. (Be it Liverpool, Arsenal or Milan/Ajax in recent years).

The conference league would just feel humiliating. The third rate european competiton.... No thanks, I would rather we didn't qualify at all and have more focus on methods and tactics in training.

Dunno. Conference semi finals have more prestigious teams than Europa this year.

Marseille, Roma, Feyenoord. This is almost CL level of round of 16. Not bad at all.

I'm not sure why people just want us to focus on getting top four. That is pretty boring in my book. And it is exactly what this season has turned out to be.

Why would anyone want to watch another season of this?

We won't make it. Likely not win any of our remaining games this season unless Rangnick shows some guts and plays youth who will actually execute his gameplan.

Let’s get to top 4, then play the kids in CL since we all agree that no European games will help us gel better/quicker under ETH.

The Athletic did a breakdown a while back: Explained: The Premier League’s European places if West Ham and Leicester win Europa League and Conference League - The Athletic

I was wrong in saying 8th would qualify for the conference league.

Paywall, so here's the relevant portion
Thanks for this! It’s really complicated isn’t it!

So if the table finishes as it is now (United in 6th) but Leicester win the Conference League and West Ham lose… We have to go into the conference league?

That sucks because I’d imagine Leicester will win that and I really want United to avoid the conference league

I'm sorry but I understood basically nothing in this post.

What exactly are you talking about? In particular the bold, it's confusing.

Let me elaborate. UEFA has raised a "suggestion" to be discussed mid-may, that 2 wild card places for CL will be granted to top co-efficient clubs in Europe, that miss their CL qualification. This suggestion is almost created for EPL due to our competitive nature, and also perfectly built for clubs like MU, because we miss our Top 4 every few years. There are several amendment being discussed but let's keep it simple at this point, from 2023-24 season onwards, 2 extra places for the top failed clubs.

Co-efficient is measured by collecting previous 5 seasons of points scored in European competition, so Europa counts. MU is currently at 9th of the table, and each participating clubs typically scored 10-20 points every season. Should we draw blank in 1 season, we will only have 4 seasons to count, hence handicap for the next 4 seasons.

Being Top 10 is important, because the likes of BM, RM, Barca (may be not), PSG etc. will not miss their qualification even for a bad season, so 9th should almost guarantee a wild card entry should we become 5th in a particular season. Unless you are so confident that MU will be so reform in the next few seasons and start challenging for the Top spot rightaway.

This place can't make up their mind. You criticise the players for playing terribly. Now you're saying they were right all along, to avoid playing European Football. The players are smarter than we think.

Okay, got it now thanks for the in depth explanation. The entire thing sounds to me incredibly weird.
