I truly am very sad to hear this news. For me he was the outstanding comedy actor and the godfather of dead pan.
His memory will live on in his films which are timeless. No matter how many times I hear some of those jokes, they still never fail to make me laugh out loud.

He was so liked that he was forgiven the huge number of dire films he made. Airplane and his stuff on TV and film as Frank Dreben were brilliant.
He could make the crassly juvenile very funny indeed. Nobody else could have made that "nice beaver" scene so funny.
Only got told this today. I absolutely loved Naked Gun, it was comedy genius.
