Watched the Friday Night Football post match show and here are the quotes from Pogba, Shaw and Mourinho to the best of my ability (so not great). Apologies if there are any obvious grammatical/spelling mistakes.

Paul Pogba

on starting with a win

"We should start the Premier League with a win and we did it today. We knew it was going to be difficult because I personally didn't have any pre-season matches. I came back on Monday so it was difficult on my legs, the stamina but we played very well. The performance of the team was okay but we just want to go up and that's it."

on designated penalty taker

"We don't have a taker. The manager has names but it depends on how we feel. I decided to take it but maybe the next game I can leave it to Alexis - it is not a problem. The win is the most important thing."

on the run-up to the penalty

"It is my style of taking penalties. I've always done it. I know it is long. I know it can disturb the goalkeeper but that is how I take it. The most important thing is the ball goes in because if you miss it then I know what I'll hear."

Interview pic
on playing with Fred

"We started okay. I wouldn't say it was the best game but obviously it is normal. We've just started to play together. We started to train together. He's a very good player, I know he will really help us and with Andreas too - very young and showed his ability today. To be honest I feel very comfortable with him and with the rest of the centre mids I think we will be very happy with Fred this season."

on what he's hoping to achieve with United this season

"I'm someone who likes challenges. I want to improve. I want to progress. You have to keep working to get better and better because I'm still quite young - 25 - and I want to improve, I want to learn again and I want to win more trophies. The World Cup is a great cup, it'll stay in my mind but I want to win other trophies - Premier League, Champions League, European Championships we can win hopefully."

Luke Shaw

Interview pic 2
on being in the position he was to score the goal

"We worked on it a lot in training when Juan comes inside it gives me licence to push on and get forward. I know the quality Juan's got and I knew he was going to pick me out and I got in the box - great first touch as Gary said(!) but no, for me it is my first goal and the most important one. It doesn't matter how I score it but at least I'm up and running now."

on his touch for the goal

"I was meant to come inside but I think I managed to get there before him, got my foot on it and put it in the other corner. Schmeichel came up to me after and was like: 'You spawny man! You're lucky' but I said I didn't care, and I don't care how it goes in."

on what it was like to see the ball crossing the line

"For my career so far it is the best feeling I've had and I want more feelings like that. That is why you come to stadiums like this - teams like this - to score and help the team. Honestly, the best feeling to date was today."

on the 'reports' about him passing fitness tests

"I've worked really hard over the pre-season. I've had a lot of time off and a lot of time to think and do what I needed to do. Fitness-wise I felt very good. I'm a bit disappointed with my performances over pre-season because I know I could have done much better - even tonight I know I can still do better - and that is what I want to be: a better player. I'll keep working hard, I'll keep showing the manager what I can do and hopefully I'll stay in the team and keep going."

on pushing on to become United and England's number 1 leftback this season

"I hope so. I don't want to speak too soon after one game but I'm working really hard and I want to be up there with the best leftbacks in the world and with a great manager and teammates behind me I think I've got the foundations to do that here at Manchester United. I want to be back in the England squad and I want to be involved in competitions like the World Cup. I think mentally that is what pushed me on even more because over the summer it was amazing to see how they had done but then disappointing for myself to be sat at home watching. I've been to the World Cup in Brazil and I want to in the World Cups and the Euros and be fighting for a place here in the Champions League and the Prem games."

Interview pic 3
Stats
on being encouraged to go forward

"I look back at last season and don't think I was playing the way that people knew what a footballer I was with my attacking capabilities. This season I think I've felt more confident - especially today - and I want to keep doing that. Obviously, defending is the first thing for a fullback but nowadays it is all about attacking and I think I'm known for attacking and helping the team create chances and goals and I did that today.

on what he has to do to become a regular leftback under Jose

"Work hard, give 100%. He likes a player with desire, workrate and aggressiveness. He does like me to attack and I think last season that is why he was a bit disappointed with me because he knew I could do that and wasn't doing that when I was playing he said. Of course, defending is very important for him. He likes to keep the team compact and defending is the most important thing for him. I think I'm learning more about that, watched a lot of videos and I get a lot of help from him and the two new coaches we have in Kieran [McKenna] and Carras (Carrick) this season."

Jose Mourinho

Interview pic 1
on his assessment of the game

"I think Mr. Scudamore must be happy because it is a good way to start the Premier League. Good match, three good teams in my opinion. A match where I needed six changes - three was not enough for me. I wanted to play Martial for Mata or Alexis but I can't. I know that Paul can't play 90, Fred the same. I need more changes but I couldn't so it wasn't easy to manage the game from a touchline point of view. As I told the players, we had very good periods [of play] and lots of glimpses of the football we want to try to play. When Leicester was stronger than us we coped with that as a team which is also an important thing."

Interview pic 2
on being concerned about Leicester having more possession

"You are always concerned because the result is short (narrow) and at any moment a goal can come but I think the team played as a team in these difficult moments. In the second half I had Andreas Pereira and Fred both with a yellow card and Paul's contribution was amazing but his fuel was disappearing every minute so we were in trouble and I needed McTominay and Fellaini to give me that balance in midfield. At the same time I felt like I want more in attack, I felt that Martial could come into this game for the last 20-25 minutes for Mata or Alexis and could bring us what we thought would be a second goal and kill the game but I couldn't make that change so it was really hard.

"The players gave everything. I told them to give what you have and if you have 10 minutes, you give 10 minutes. Marouane told me 'I can't give you more than 10 minutes' so I said okay, but give me the 10 minutes if I need. Everybody did that in a fantastic way and obviously it is important to win and play well.

"I think we played well in periods of the game and we played against a good team that invested more than us - spent more money than us. I think in the Premier League we must get used to teams who have players with the same quality that we have. Forget their name, forget their history, forget their shirts, and every team is a good team. Every match is difficult so three points in the first match of the season after such a difficult pre-season with half the boys with three days of training was important."

Interview pic 3
on if he still stands by what he said about it being a difficult season for United

"Of course it will be. I think it will be a difficult season for everybody - not just for us - but for us it will be a difficult season because I had my plans for many months and I find myself at the start of the season with the market closed with a situation I thought I was not going to be in. I think it is the last time I will speak about it - maybe the last time in the press conference if any of your colleagues make any questions but it is over! The market is closed and there's no more talk about it.
on if there is a problem with the board

"That's football management. I think football is changing and football managers should be called head coaches. We have big multi-functional coaching staff and I think we are more the head coach than the manager. That is the way football is going."
on if he can challenge for the title

"I think we have to wait for the end of November, beginning of December to understand how things go and if we can fight for the title or if you believe in the pundits and go for what they say."

Interview pic 4
on Luke Shaw

"I'm very pleased. In 90 minutes he made one mistake and it is the kind of mistake where the linesman could help and give a freekick for us and solve the problem. He was very good defensively. He was good with the ball, physically he coped well. He had a good pre-season. He was one of the guys who played every match and trained for five weeks so he's one of the guys - like Andreas Pereira. I can't leave without talking about Andreas Pereira. He's a right winger at Valencia that spent the season on the bench. At Old Trafford he comes in as a number six and played a phenomenal match."

Mourinho's post match press conference

on if it was a positive way to start the season

"I think so. In any case it would be - in my opinion - a good performance but with the circumstances, I think, very good because pre-season was very hard and we needed this fantastic spirit by the players to manage this performance and this result. Some fantastic performances - of course the boys with the proper pre-season were in a much better condition: Luke Shaw, Andreas Pereira, Eric Bailly, Darmian - these boys were comfortable to play 90 minutes. The others were fantastic. Marcus Rashford was in trouble but he played. Pogba was a monster - we thought he would play a maximum 60 minutes but he managed 80. Lukaku, Fellaini were available to try to help the team. Fantastic spirit and I think periods of very good football and in the periods where Leicester were stronger we played as a team and coped with the situation so I think good 3 points, good victory. Tomorrow morning training and a free Sunday deserved."

on the decision to start Paul Pogba

"It wasn't hard. The decision belonged to him because Andreas Pereira - he comes from Valencia bench as a winger to play number 6. Fred had 10 days training and came from Ukrainian League to Old Trafford. Ander Herrera injured. I only had two options: Scott or Paul but if I play Scott I play 2 kids and a new player so I asked Paul and he made himself available for the team and he was very good for us."

on Luke Shaw

"The game was very complete - even if I forget the goal. The performance was very complete. One defensive mistake which the linesman could have helped out but very complete performance. He just has to keep going and the mentality was very good, the tactical discipline was very good too and he had the power to go forward and score an important goal for us."

on Brighton

"I think we will have the same players. I think the injured players are not going to be back. What we have is Paul with 9 days training, Rashford with 11 days training, Fellaini with 9 days training and we'll be in a better condition. I don't remember, in my career, to be in so much trouble with changes [against Leicester] because I want to make five or six and I have only three. I have players in difficulty and want to make tactical changes but cannot make because I am afraid how players would react to minutes. I wanted to play Martial as I feel he was perfect to stretch the game and to get him in the counter but I was afraid to play him because I knew Paul and Fred would be difficult to play for 90. It was difficult for everybody but the players get everything. The match was good, the players were very good and Leicester were very good too. Good job by Claude, very good players and I'm sure they'll have a very good season."

on Pogba penalty taker

"The thinking is that he is a very good taker. He likes the responsibility of it and he is the first choice. On the pitch we have a second and third choice in case the first choice is not confident or for some other reason doesn't want to take it but he was ready and trained lots of penalties during the World Cup as in a competition like that players train for it a lot. He was very confident and Schmeichel is very good on penalties but had no chance."

on the run-up

"The run doesn't matter. What matters is the quality and intensity. You could feel that the direction was impossible for Schmeichel. He goes to the same side, the same corner but he could only arrive there with wings so it was a fantastic penalty."

Thanks for posting these @Damien
I'm happy that you have provided the full quotes as misinterpretation/misquotations are a big problem on this forum.
The head coach and players spoke very well. Hoping for a really good season.
:D

"...Honestly, the best feeling to date was today."

Shaw is virgin confirmed?

Proud of Paul for sticking up for Shaw. Hopefully he grows into the leadership vacancy and sticks around long enough to be the captain

I thought we did OK, considering the team selection issues. Pogba was great, and was really impressed by Andreas's performance. I think Fred was OK, but maybe got a it of a shock at the pace of the Premier League compared to Ukraine.

I think Jose's post match comment re: had made plans and is now having to rethink those plans due to not having signed players he wanted is damning on Woodward. If the board knew Jose was planning for months to play with a certain style and team selection, and they didn't manage to get the players Jose wanted despite having months to do so, they should be ashamed. If we look disjointed on the pitch it's because Jose has had to revise plans last minute thanks to the boards shit show of a summer transfer window.

Excellent - thanks for that. I'll transcribe that short video too.

Yep, that is why I started doing it. The Liverpool game was ridiculous for this. For some matches it'll be difficult with interviews I can't find the download/replay for but will try to where possible.

Good to see praise for Periera and Shaw. Especially happy for Shaw as he has such a chance to kick on if he can stay injury free. He will have learned a lot himself from being a year older and watching ashley young play big games and england games all summer. I do think this year can be different than last.

Periera doesn't have the same opportunity despite mou's high praise. He could play a role this year and I think if he stays he will, but He will be behind Matic all year and behind Herrera when we need that type of player of fellaini when we need that type of player. On the bright side matic could well struggle this year after playing so many games last year and a WC. Positive all over and I hope he stays and fights and get some games and he can look to replace Matic over the next 2-3 years

Great work Damian. Love reading it like this without the fluff.

Positive comments from them all.

Mourinho with some nice comments there. Nice to see him giving praise to the younger lads, and how he wanted to give minutes to Martial.

I'm sure some of you lot are still able to find negative stuffs in these interviews.

Good interviews.

Interesting comment about Pereira being a RW at Valencia. If that's the case, perhaps he gets a chance there when Matic comes back. Can't do any worse than Mata.

Love that he went out of his way to praise Pereira.

Pogba was class for someone with no preseason. Some lovely passing and took control of the midfield Shaw showed confidence and more composure in defending and going forward. For me he had the odd hiccup but I think he's on the right track or at least fingers crossed he is. Pereira and Fred both impressed me personally. The former out of position so to speak from his loan with Valencia but showed maturity and the latter showing how he could bring some bite and dynamism to our midfield. Im quite pleased given that isn't our first eleven.

Are Jose's backroom staffs (McKenna, Carrick) already effecting how we play? Could remember Jose running to them to celebrate the second goal

I mean, I don’t say this often but I liked what Mourinho said after the match. Credit where credit is due.

Top transcribing @Damien

I really liked Mourinho's presser, gave credit where it was due and explained his subs.
Yep, the lukaku for rashford sub was a must as we needed that physical presence up top - maybe he couldve put martial instead but in a game like this where you need your striker to give the defenders more of a battle jose made the right decision bringing on lukaku

People who say martial shouldve come on for alexis - yes he was poor but rashford wasnt giving us the presence up front and that affected us too much as it was too easy for the leicester defenders.

The other subs make sense as our midfielders were bound to be knackered so needed fresh legs in that area

Very good work @Damien. Very easy to keep track of post match comments if we miss the press conference.

Good post. Seems very clear how things are lying in the squad. Not all doom and gloom either.

That was actually a tough opening game for many reasons. Depleted squad, obviously a difficult transfer window and all the ridiculous negative talk from the press.

i Genuinely think we will have a good season. Whether we’ll win anything or not is another matter but I fail to see how we can’t be better than last season if pogba plays like that more often alongside Fred and Matic / Pereirra. Best midfield we’ve had for years.

Fingers crossed Luke Shaw can carry on and develop into the player we all hoped he would when he came.

Lindelof and Bailly looked good together and DDG is just a legend :D

Good comments all round. Really good to see Martial too was top of the coaches mind for a sub in.

Good man Jose, he handled those questions brilliantly. Something you would expect from an intelligent guy like him. Good night when all is summed up, very pleased for him and the players.

Thought the lad's did very well today considering the circumstances.

A wonderfully positive thread and rightly so. Everything he said was spot on, I think we forget how difficult Pre season must have been without the bulk of the team.

Good comments from Jose about Shaw and Pereira, and especially good to hear he wanted to get Martial on.

Look forward to the next game!

Very well done @Damien . I think Fred is only going to improve our midfield and Pereira played brilliant as a number 6 and can also play further forward if needed.Shaw was brilliant also.

Our Midfield will be much stronger this season with Fred only going to improve when he really get's going. We also have Pereira to be considered in every other position of Midfield when Matic comes back.

It is still going to be the right hand side that will be weakest. Darmian is not good enough and I really don't know why we let Fosu go on loan. I just hope that Dalot hits the ground running when fit again. The right wing is still a problem but if Lingard or Martial plays there, we could be stronger.

I have a feeling that Mourinho wanted a CB so as to play a 3-5-2 this season. This could help with Shaw and Dalot as attacking wing backs who can cross the ball well.

Lastly, we need Mourinho to give the lads more freedom to attack and we will be OK. Remember we still have loads of money to spend if we need to in January, and Woodward should be lining a Right wing magician up now.

He doesn't always throws his players under the bus

Didnt know Pogba was so well spoken. Think he makes a good captain too, isnt afraid to take responsibility. Maybe this is the season he finally establishes himself as truly world class.

Pogba was a beast last night considering he had no preseason whatsoever...if thats how hes going to perform this season we could challenge. Theres definitely issues with Jose and the board however. Im a Jose fan and whilst the i take no notice of the negative media coverage, i did think his interview was telling and hes pissed off with woodward. Hope im wrong but his past form would suggest it will only end one way.

Nice job @Damien, I think you could teach sky a thing or two,

http://www.skysports.com/share/11468825

Same comments way different result

Different? Not really. You get the exact same conclusion either way. He’s pissed off at not being backed in the transfer market (outspent by Leicester, a coach not a manager) but proud/pleased with the way his players responded in adversity. I’m pleased with how he’s staying relatively upbeat (for now, wait until we drop some points!) and maybe that’s a bit more obvious in the longer piece but the Sky Sports (and other media stuff) certainly isn’t misleading.

That's so much better by Jose!

Praising players, no cryptic messages or moaning. People like Shaw/Pereira/Pogba will feel so good after reading that.

I've been very sceptical of Jose recently but little things like that mean a lot, I guarantee he'll get more from the players talking like this.

The test will come when we drop points though, let's see if he changes his tune.
