Leeds to turn down transfer request

Or say Grimsdale says:
Peter Ridsdale has reiterated Leeds' determination to keep Rio Ferdinand and says the club would reject any transfer request from the player.
The England international is said to be considering his future after being heavily linked with a £30million-plus move to United.
Ferdinand said yesterday that he will make a decision over his future soon, but Leeds chairman Ridsdale has again insisted that the club have no intention of allowing him to leave.
He said: "As far as I am concerned Rio Ferdinand is going nowhere and I find all this talk about him leaving quite amusing considering that we haven't had a bid for him.
"I have no reason to doubt that Rio wants to stay at Leeds United.
"He has not indicated that he wants to leave and, while it is purely hypothetical, if he were to hand in a transfer request it would be firmly rejected by the board," he told the Yorkshire Post.
The former West Ham defender has four years remaining on his Elland Road contract, and with Lee Bowyer, Olivier Dacourt and possibly Robbie Keane all set to leave the club, Leeds remain insistent that they have no financial need to sell star defender Ferdinand.

So when did he say this?

And why didn't you just add this to one of the other dozen or so Rio threads Nils?

Because its a different angle on the story and deserves attention. It was the latest on TeamTalk btw. I'd be very surprised if they did turn down his transfer request - not a lot of point having a captain who doesn't want to play for you. But then again they're going to look like right twats now if they do sell him.

A different angle? Do me a favour. They'll look like twats if they sell him full stop bearing in mind how much Pigsdale has spouted off in the press all summer.

Agreed, they would, so do you think its possible that they might actually turn down the move?

I'm not perpetuating this different angle myth.

I'll see you in another thread once this one has been closed.

It has to be remembered that while PR can say "as far as HE is concerned Rio is going nowhere" he is just one vote on the board and the other bastards might cave in and vote to sell. Who knows what will happen

RIO LATEST

THE Rio Ferdinand's transfer saga rumbles on with United insisting any transfer request from the Leeds skipper would be rejected and the England defender hinting that Terry Venables is the man to bring silverware to the club.
Despite all the speculation linking the England defender with a move to Manchester United, Leeds have received no offer.

Club Chairman Peter Ridsdale said on Monday: "As far as I am concerned Rio Ferdinand is going nowhere and I find all this talk about him leaving quite amusing considering that we haven't even had a bid for him.

"I have no reason to doubt that Rio wants to stay at Leeds United. He has not indicated that he wants to leave and, while it is purely hypothetical, if he were to hand in a transfer request it would be firmly rejected by the board."

While Ferdinand admitted he was still mulling over his future.

Ferdinand said yesterday: "Mr Venables never asked me to say whether I would be staying or not, but I could not have given him an answer there and then anyway because there is a lot to think about and I'm sure he understands that.

"He is a persuasive character, with a track record to back him up. He reiterated to me his plans for the club, how he saw the future and was enthusiastic about everything. As a person and a coach he's up there among the best of them. He said the sort of things I expected and you can see he wants to do well.

"This is his chance to stamp his mark on a club and he wants to do everything to make it a big success.

"He has put a few of his ideas in my head and now I want to think hard about them before I get back to him.

"But I do feel that Leeds will achieve things with him in charge. It's a hard decision because the people at Leeds have been brilliant to me and I cannot emphasise that enough.

Meanwhile, Lee Bowyer's £9million move to Liverpool could be completed in the next day after the midfielder was on Merseyside on Monday discussing the switch to Anfield.

There have been no developments on fellow midfielder Olivier Dacourt's speculated move to Juventus after the Italian club claimed that they have not made an offer for the French international.

What does that mean? Half of you lot go on about stuff being started that could easily have fit into an existing thread. So I'm humouring you a bit. You lot can be so sensitive it's untrue.

What it means is that not everybody necessarily shares your view. The idea that Leeds will turn down a transfer request was not being discussed in any of the other Rio threads, so it is a new topic. If one of the Mods shares your view they can shut this thread if they like.

No, so he's left with a very unhappy key player in the squad. What's the point of that? It's not wise keeping a player who wants to go.

Spunk Monkey.

Open a Rio forum for Nils and whilst your at it he could do with a big brother forum too.

Besides Spunk Monkey Nils you still haven't disclosed your source. You could be making it all up in order to start another thread for all I know.

I'm not confident on anything myself (especially while Ferdinand says nothing), but I also have basic logic. Unhappy players are sold.

We don't actually know that he's unhappy though do we?

Cue new thread from Kneels with the "Rio's deep depression" angle on this story............but with no sources at all of course.

I've already said the source was TeamTalk, although the quotes are now spreading to many other sites too.

You would think that, I can't think of many instances where the player hasn't gone on to move. I think Newcastle did that to Olivier Bernard though didn't they??

Rio Rio Rio

Coming to think of it. Why didn't Man Utd sign him from West Ham years ago.
We haven't been too sharp in the transfer market in the last couple of seasons have we ?
We always go for players when they are way too expensive.

A reliable source if ever there was one.

He will ask for transfer but what if Leeds say no, will someone else step in?

Dans, marching also posted the same quote after me, from some other source, and it was on ananova as well - there's no good reason to doubt it.

Oh yes there is.

No we don't know he's unhappy. But if he asks for a money that means he wouldn't be happy staying, would it?

And if he doesn't ask for a move, then he'll stay at Leeds.

Yep, although that was a tad different as he never asked for a transfer. He just said he didn't like the club and signed for West Ham, only to find out he actually HAD a contract with Newcastle for next season.

Then he turned around and signed a new 3-year deal. Sounds like greed more than unhappiness.

What's the difference between Bernard and Rio then Amir?

Nils you have no spirit. Why couldn't you just join in the panto style exchange I was nhoping to have with you. YOU are the boring one. Go and start another Rio thread you wannabee thread starter.

If I remember correctly SAF didn't sign Rio because he thought he already had a better young CB (Wes Brown) in his club. He has now been proved to be wrong and Man Utd will pay for it - if you even can get Rio now.

How about because we had Jaap Stam just returning from injury and hopes Ronny Johnsen would be fit as well?

Bernard never asked for a transfer. He simply signed for another club and then signed back. I'm not sure what his reasons were for the entire story, but it's not really similar to what we could have here.

More likely, he wasn't to know what would happen to Jaap.
