Leeds (dirty thugs) discussion

How come this guy was never in contention for the big jobs? Very few of this team will even make our bench and he went toe to toe with City.

I think his personality has much to do with that. He doesn't like attention, he doesn't like the media, and he picks the cities he will live at. He's a modest man who would live in a simple apartment and go to the training ground by walking, like he normally does.

He also knows that big clubs is where you got more corruption and people who do not apply the same principles he has. I think after managing Argentina he suffered too much being exposed and that's why he prefers smaller clubs.

I love good football no matter who plays. This Leeds side play good football. Look at the players they have. Give Bielsa a big club with a good squad and he could be brilliant.

Why get Bielsa, when we can get Pochettino, who Bielsa rates higher than any other manager in football besides maybe Pep.

I will talk of the relationship I have with Pochettino with what I have seen in English football," he said, as reported by Leeds Live
The work Pochettino has done is brilliant. In the last year he put Tottenham at a high level in the world. This for any manager is a big achievement. For me, it’s more important yet because the team that played the final of the Champions League was a team he built very carefully. The performance of this team was linked to the collective play built between him and his players. Rather than top players bought for them. They didn’t buy top players.
This reality makes the work of Pochettino even more important. Something professional like that acquires one credit absolutely deserved.
Maybe he could not enjoy this achievement at Tottenham. Maybe because I do not know the real situation, but he will take this credit because big clubs in the world will try to take him.

"This manager will lead one of the best teams in the world. The background is he makes Tottenham one of the best teams in the world."
The bold part is what upset me about current United manager. All they do is buy world class players and they can’t improve upon what they have. Only true Top managers can do that and improve average players. Bielsa has spoken and it is time to return United back to the glory days.

Because Bielsa has his teams playing much open football. Poch had a big club in the PL and has not succeeded. Bielsa has a smaller club and scaring the daylights out of everyone. Everyone wants to watch Leeds now.

World class coach. No words to describe him. Watching his teams shows you what excellent coaching can bring you. In reality he has average team but playing better than most of teams in PL. Joy to watch (if you ignore that it is Leeds:)).

They could easily get enough points to be comfortably mid table by start of Jan. They've already got 7 points in first 4 and two of those games were against the top 2 from last few years.

Sheffield united must've had nearly 40 points by mid of February and then they got found out a bit after lockdown but still finished top half so think Leeds could emulate that.

They also haven't integrated all their summer signings into the first 11 yet and will likely sign a new playmaker in 48 hours.

Spurs was always a big club. That's why Poch left Southampton and went to London.

The don't only play counter attacking. They play so open attractive football. Good passing and play quick passing game too. Their players know what to do.
That´s what I was trying to say. It´s the combination of many things that make them good. It´s an eclectic blend of styles - love it!

It is indeed.

His first season followed the exact pattern I described. His second season included a freak 3 month break.

it’ll be interesting to see how they do over the full season, but I’m not sure how much I subscribe to the whole Bielsa is so intense they dip thing (at least in regards to Leeds). It’s important to note that when Bielsa took over, Leeds were firmly a mid table team, they never really put up any promotion challenges for a fair few seasons. When Bielsa took over, they transformed pretty much overnight into a team that for the main part was pretty dominant. They did have a period where results suffered, but I don’t think it had anything to do with them having tired out or been overcoached, that was the narrative at the time in the media and from a lot of pundits, but truth be told they were still playing excellent football. They had a bit of a keeping problem where they conceded goals they shouldn’t have, and on top of that Norwich and Sheffield went on crazy runs where they just didn’t lose.

Last season they had a mini dip as well, but again the performances themselves were excellent, they just struggled in a few matches to put the ball in the net (which hasn’t been a problem so far in the prem but has been a problem for them) but I didn’t see anything on the pitch to think that the players were overly fatigued or anything, they still played the same way.

It’ll be interesting to see how they do over the full season in the premiership for sure.

What a coach. Making Utd feel reluctant to play against a historic rival that has much worse players. Shitty are doing well, Pool are on their way to doing the unimaginably unforgiveable thing of being the most decorated club in England, while we have been doing real bad for the last 7 years. What a time to be alive...

I hate leeds but you have to say Bielsa is an inspirational coach who pushes his average bunch of players to give everything and boy do they give everything. Hate to say it but they are fit, focused, good to watch, play on front foot and have no fear.

Compare that to the coaching of ole and his staff..and our slow languid passionless style of play. We need a manager who can get passion intensity and a performance out of our squad and make us a force again.

Not true, Poch did the same at Southampton and at Spurs. Even Bielsa stated that Spurs wasn’t a big club until after the pochettino project.

You can’t claim Bielsa is succeeding with Leeds while saying the opposite of Pochettino at Spurs. What Bielsa is doing is even less than what Pochettino did especially after just only 3/4 games in the premier league so far.

Compared to Southampton, yes. But in the overall context of thing, they weren’t before pochettino. They were never part of a top four conversation and were never spoken of about being able to challenge for the title or the champions league until after pochettino.

My mate is a Leeds fan and he’s serious that they will finish above us. On current form I can’t argue with him. At least they play attractive football and the team looks like they put in 100% effort.

Spurs still is a big club compared to most clubs in England. Only United, Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Liverpool were bigger. Yes Poch took them to second place and a CL Final. He was a good coach. Doesn't mean he is better than Bielsa.

Getting Leeds promoted after (16?) years in the wilderness was massive. Bielsa has done a remarkable job. Think your 3/4 games comment is wide of the mark.

Redknapp finished top four twice in his last three seasons. Yes Poch did a great job there but I feel you’re twisting the narrative a little here.

You both are equally deluded then.

It will not happen. U will get the penalties to get the 4th spot.

Chelsea and City were not big clubs 20 years ago. Not even top 10. If they lost the oil money/ Abramivich walked theyd drop like stones.
United Liverpool Arsenal in that order are the 3 big clubs in England. Then theres a bunch of clubs with similar sized support bases. Spurs, Villa, Leeds, Newcastle possibly West Ham, Everton too. Only recently City/Chelsea have joined them.

Chelsea were a sizeable club to be fair, not massive but they were fairly established to say the least. City on the other hand were an absolute nothing club.

That Poveda kid is electric. He has magic in his feet. His turn of space and agility are incredible.

Dont bother talking about Poch with that guy, it's an absolute waste of time.

Agree with you. Chelsea was a big club with United, Arsenal and Liverpool above them. They have had big players and won even European trophies and the Cups under Bates. Yes they became a huge club after Bates sold the club.

Depends how far you go back I guess! Im in my 40s and support base for Chelsea was much smaller than Arsenal Tottenham and West Ham until relatively recently so they were 4th in London. They only started to compete in the top half of the table late 90s really

Leeds are bigger than Spurs...

Yes in the 90s. Late 90s there were starting to win trophies. West Ham never won much after the 80s. Yes the support was bigger for West Ham.

Absolute class.

True, they’re certainly not a big club historically, but results-wise they were there or thereabouts around the time when they were take over by Abromovich. I kind of thought of them as the best of the rest around that time, and a bugger to play against for us.

Leeds have been not been as successful after they won the League. Spurs recently and even now are a bigger club than Leeds.
Yeah, maybe Leeds have a bigger fanbase but on most measures Spurs are bigger I think. Neither of them win much! Spurs last title was 1961!

Yes for the league but they won european trophies and cups in the 90s too.

A lot of managers get championship team promoted. It is what the manager does at the high level of competition that matters more. I have no doubt that Biesla will do well in the premier league with Leeds. He might emulate Pochettino Southampton team success.

Redknapp was barely consistent and he also had Bale and Modric who were worldly talent that could drag an average team into top four contention. Could you imagine a Spurs team under Pochettino with a future ballon d or winner and bale in his prime years? Anyway, there was a reason why Redknapp didn’t last long at Spurs even having such a great team.

Even a Bielsa thread has turned into Amadaeus talking about Poch. It's getting a little bit ridiculous at this point.

I agree with you. This is getting utterly ridiculous. Bielsa has a lower league level team playing extremely entertaining football. It's up and down and very entertaining for the neutrals.
So I don't know where Poch comes into this?
