Le Tour de France 2012

The suspicion is that they wanted to make sure the Spanish ride who was in the lead won the stage.

That also doesn't quite make sense. As Luis Leon Sanchez only made his move with a few km's to go. By that time the peloton were already down from the climb and all the chaos was happening. Plus, there was no way for the peloton to catch the leaders yesterday anyway. If they wanted Sanchez to win then it would've made more sense to target Cassar the French rider who went over the top of that climb first.

Tour De Bore this year. Hopefully Wed will see some fireworks. Turn 40 in 2 years and instead of any party - all I want to do is ride the Col du Tourmalet which is on Wednesday's stage

Did you know that on the TDF a mountain is rated 1,2,3,4 & 5 & Hors & the rating was based on the gear a car used to get up them back in the 20's. u never know when you might get asked that.

Delighted for Wiggins if he wins this - without question the single biggest sporting achievement in any sport

That's useful info. So HC was not climbable by a car in the 20s?

I don't think that's the case. It was just mischievous. Even Wiggins suffered a blow. It would difficult to pin Evans down out of a bunch in such a narrow road so to say they 'targeted' Evans is a bit daft.

agreed. Impossible to target specific rider in the group.

looking forward to seeing froome as a leader next year. I think he'd come close this year if he was allowed but how much time would he have to make up on the mountains with losses on time trials.

Oh, christ. Frank Schleck has failed a drugs test. Not sure what for yet, hopefully it's more a technical problem then a strong substance.

As for the Tour, I don't expect it to get too interesting. Even if Wiggins loses time over the next couple of days, he's still got the time trial on Saturday. It'll take something dramatic for him to lose it. Could have been more interesting if Contador and to a lesser extent Andy Schleck (as he's weaker on time trial) would have been there, but that's what you get sometimes.

Schleck has been terrible. Doesn't make sense for him to have taken PEDs.

You cynic. It will turn out to be an unlabeled ingredient in an across the counter medicine he bought in Somalia when he holidayed there last year.

But why would Bruyneel want another rider implicated in doping when he (Bruyneel) is fighting charges of being involved doping already?

Frank will probably get off on this. Obviously this casts major doubts on Andy as well and Andy said he swears on his life and family that Frank never took anything. Time will tell, or maybe not...

It's not true. In any case, some climbs (like the Tourmalet) only came into the Tour in the 50s. And how did they categorise Murs de Peyguere as 1, given that it made its first appearance this year? Drive a vintage car up?

This bloke believes it's arbitrary. He's got some good points.

Not sure about that Baz, since most car's in the 20's probably only had 3 forward gears and very unlikely to have more than 4, a 5 speed box was certainly a rarity back then if they even existed. For example the Citroen Traction Avant, which was a car of the 30's & ahead of it's time, only had 3 forward gears, it didn't have a 4 speed gearbox until 1948.

Edit: Didn't see Spinoza's post

Because it doesn't hurt him much more, takes petty revenge on Frank, and sends out a message - see, even the Schlecks crossed me at their peril.

Frank was 12th, not been in great form since the Tour de Suisse, and said somewhere (I can't find the link) before the Tour that he wasn't going to be in contention. No great reason to take anything.

Frank will probably get off on this.

It will be like Contador's or Kolobchev's case. Not conclusively proven that he took something with intent to enhance performance, but stinks nonetheless.

I don't really have a clue about whether or not Frank took something deliberately or not. But he's not actually tested positive until the B sample shows it. He deserves some benefit of the doubt until then.

I hear you.

well fought, Chris Anker. Voeckler too good today.

It really annoys me to see such timid and unambitious challengers to Wiggins. Nibali is the only one who even bothers and he has left it too late.

Sky just too good

Sky are good, the gap probably a little deflating for some of the riders, plus the lack of some big climbers, ones who were injured in the early stages and of course Contador and Schleck (though Andy might have been out of it anyway because of the TT). It's most Nibali attacking. What if had a few Nibali's out there...

I just quoted what nico roche had in his diary

Froome too good. In truth Froome really should be winning the GC.

Vockler is a champ but he looked like a massive wankpot riding through the finish showboating

Real old Style. Took out the Radio and just Rode. Fench and pure cyling fans love him

Maybe. I doubt he'd have been able to take more than 2-3 minutes out of Wiggins though on the climbs though. That high tempo / medium gear style that Wiggins has will let him reel in many attacks even without Froome. Then Wiggins can take and has taken a minute out of Froome on a long time trial...

The horse racing forum I'm a member of took part in a massive punt on Boasson Hagen when he won his first stage last year. He's in the breakway and we're all involved again. Unfortunately at much shorter odds.

So barring disaster Wiggins is on his way to making history.

They let the sprinters have a little race right at the end, but everyone else just lines up politely to let the winner do his (really long) lap of honour. Right?

Great sprint at the end. Cavendish showing his sprinting prowess yet again. Well done Bradley Wiggins.

It's really amazing how he transformed himself from the track rider he was to the GC-rider he is now. A lot of respect for him. Wonder if he'll be able to come close though next year. There are lots of rumours already about a Tour mainly focussed on climbing instead of the time trial.

It wasn't the greatest Tour to watch when the GC is concerned but there were lots of great stages this year. More than other years in my opinion.

Anyone know if Wiggins or Froome are riding the Vuelta next month?

The dominance of the Sky team made it a very dull tour but Wiggins is a very deserved winner. But those sideburns :wenger:

Maybe he he was hinting at that when he referred to working for Froome in the yellow?

I doubt it. Froome will probably lead his own team elsewhere next year I'd guess.

i was up for him until I heard him celebrating after the timetrial.

nothing worse than an arrogant arse celebrating before the job is done.

that said, its a hard race to win so well done to him.
