What size is that? I too, rate Sony TVs, but they use Samsung panels, so why pay that little bit extra?

There is more to a TV than the panel, especially in the HD world.

Sony were the kings of the CRT age, the Trinitron simply could not be beaten. They simply do not think that LCD or Plasma are the long term solutions, so are not making them (the display component). The Bravia Engine is a different kettle of fish. Sony for some unknown reason love using the term "Engine".

Matsushita (read Panasonic) is the big plasma panel player.

My Sony WEGA's brilliant. And if LCDs/Plasmas are not long term solutions, then what in their opinion is/are?

Panasonic plasma colours are hideous unless you like ordinary colours appearing fluorescent.

the trinitron series is good. i used to have a 14'' triniton crt t.v. and it lasts close to a decade. its colours are brilliant.

Is that the panel though, or the electronics behind it?

I have no idea. The Panasonic branded large plasma screens have hideous colours. The LG have very good colours, the Samsung are about the same but more expensive and the very expensive Pioneer were the best of the lot. I got the LG because it was 95% as good to watch as the Pioneer and half the price.

Samsung 40 inch OLED

Samsung 40Inch OledSamsung has announced a new OLED Display. OLED technology promises to be cheaper to make than LCD or Plasma displays.

The 40” Active Matrix OLED is the world’s largest and first to be developed as a single-sheet glass plate with WXGA (1280 x 800 pixels) HD-class resolution using an amorphous silicon backplane. It has a maximum brightness of 600 nits, a shade ratio (black-and-white contrast ratio) of at least 5,000:1, and color saturation of at least 80%. Its ultra-slim design allows for the development of TV sets that are a mere 3cm thick or less.

How quickly do you need it? Samsung have just officially announced a new LCD. It has local dimming LED backlighting and the quality levels of the black is suppose to be as good as any plasma. Also has 100Hz technology so should help with ghosting. A lot of standout features and if Samsung get it right the quality of these screens will be much better than any LCD out. Those who have seen it say it is really good. The blacks are much more blacker and supposedly as good as plasma's in that area. Will be out towards the end of next month so I'd wait and join up some extra money if I was you

Get a projector!

I had one in my garage with a 78 inch screen it was brilliant i had mates round with the latest plasmas and LCD,s and they were all saying how great the picture was,i upgraded to a HD projector recently and its even better.

pricewise i could buy 3 of my setup for a 52 inch lcd or plasma. but i wouldnt swap it once, either now or with my old one.

That's interesting. I'm not that desperate, so I could wait. That said, it'll be more expensive.

Thats what everyone says mate a new bulb costs £140 for mine, you get 2000hours out of a bulb and a five year free warranty with the machine.

I dont watch shitloads of programmes anyway i watch films and football
it all depends i suppose if you watch telly 24/7 then it could be a problem.

Actually I hardly watch telly. Just like you. . . Films and football.

Actually, it's well priced. Nice one Jazz.

Around £2300 some sites are saying I believe. Don't be so sure just yet though as it might be closer to the £2500 mark but even at that price when you consider the technology I think it is worth it IF Samsung get it right. Should be better than any Sony LCD out this year. Don't buy straight away because some LCDs have had screen bleeding problems so let a few buy it and once you get a good idea on whether the LCD is good or not then go for it.

Also in that link I provided talks about 120Hz technology but that is for America, in this country that wouldn't be compatable with the types of signals we have so it is 100Hz for us.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=788306 Loads of info on the US version, really long thread so don't even bother with the start of it as they are just speculating think around page 50 onwards the specs get released on this site.

Knew about this LCD for ages now. Was hoping for a 40" version as I was thinking of using one as a PC monitor but looks like in England only a 52" and one size bigger will be available which is no good to me, waiting all this time only to find out they aren't gonna do one for us UK lot, cnuts!

Then why get it over a plasma then?

Always felt that B&O were more style over substance.

I bought a b&o tv video and hi-fi separates many moons ago. They cost a fortune and have all broken down at some stage. In those days a lot of their stuff was made by Phillips. As you point out style over substance.

What hi fi and similar magazines don't even review B&O stuff. Which tells me a lot.

Cheapest I've found it on the net, is around £2,200, which is excellent considering it's probably the best LCD out there. But yeah, I'll wait a few weeks first. . . but I'm definitely going to buy it.
