I don't know if this is being discussed anywhere else on the caf. So I am starting a new thread about this.
If we make just one more signing now, which one would you want it to be? LB or CM?
Personally, I don't think we are going we sign any more players, but for me the one player will be a LB.

LB would be the preference for me.

Some may say we're still lacking in CM, and perhaps we do need a midfield general in there. But we have Carrick, Anderson, Cleverley, Scholes, Powell, Fletcher (if he can fully recover), Giggs and Kagawa.

At LB we have Evra, and no other cover.

CM all day.. We'll just have to drop someone like Giggs as a makeshift left back if needs be.

We have less cover at fullback but I feel the right central midfielder would probably improve us more.

A CM without a doubt, Fabio is seemingly the future LB and will be back next season, Evans will cover Evra this season.

The big problem is there aren't that many CM's to choose from that will give the injection of quality needed.

I reckon we won't be signing a new central midfielder till Scholes and Giggs retire.

I'd take a left back right now. Looking at midfield, if we're a little lucky with injuries (or not so unlucky as last year) we may be able to get by well enough with that we've got, not to mention if Fletcher can make a return. At left back there's nothing but Evra. I don't see Evans as an real option and he's done so well at centerhalf I don't want to see him become another master of versatility.

Left back. At least we have more than one CM. Even if they're not that great, at least they exist.

true, i know we are not the best in midfield, but if ando and clev can stay fit, we are already better off than last season, plus, with the signing of kagawa, in the games he plays, we will be able to hold possession better than last year.
but at LB, Evra has been poor.

CM, only because I feel there are some attainable targets that could improve us whereas at left back we wouldnt really be able to improve. Evans is good enough cover and I feel Fryers or Blackett can fill in until Fabio returns from loan

Johnny Evans is decent at LB and we could always recall Fabio I suppose. Nevertheless I'd love Leighton Baines at United.

Slightly worried about left back as we don't have much strenght in depth

less worried about midfield - we could improve but who realistically so late in the window is going to be available at a decent price who could improve us

we have some really good midfielders so we would really be looking for a top top talent - not a squad player

anyway - this season is going to be a great one for Tom Cleverley - I can feel it

Twat and off to Spurs if I'm not mistaken.

CM is where we most need improvement, but if nothing else atleast we've got cover there, which is more than I can say for our LB spot. (I mean technicaly you could play Evans/Rafael or Blackett/Brady, but the first 2 aren't LBs and the other 2 aren't ready (1 of them is even a makeshift LB))

it seems like people and fergie have forgotten how poor paddy has been for the last year and a half. by calling for a back up for him we are being too fair to him. if we don't sign a lb, i will be surprised that fergie has ignored the LB situation which has been quite dire

That's kind of where I'm at. I'd have liked a clause in the loan that we could recall Fabio at any point, so if we did need him, he'd be there. I'd say he's good enough to play now, albeit not as a first team regular. If we did have that clause, it'd be a CM, but with Evra's clearly declining form, and no cover/competition for him, I'd like Baines in.

That said, we have Van Persie, so I'm happy!

Probably too late to go back into looking for young rough diamonds at LB, Evans/Rafa/Jones will do a job if needs be. No way should we be signing Baines or anyone like that.

Just loan this Sahin chap and we would be all set very comfortably.

I must be one of the few who has not given up on Evra yet. I think he can go on to have an improved season.

It would be nice to have a back up for him.

But for sure if I had to pick one more signing it would a proper defensively sound midfielder

Both are problem areas, no doubt, but there seem to be limited options out there for both these positions. Our competition have hoarded all the best CMs and there are seemingly few good LBs about.

How anyone can actually mention Fletcher in any sort of positive way I do not know. Even at his very best, good as he was, he is not good enough to face Europe's top CMs.

And Anderson. How on earth anyone thinks he'll come good I do not know. He isn't even talented now he's lost his burst of pace. If he had came through our academy and was not Brazilian he would be held in the same regard as Gibson was.

On one hand we have Cleverly a young England international who looks really good.
Giggs the best player ever in the prem
Scholes England's best player of the last 2 decades
Anderson a young brazillian who has shown plenty of talent
Kagawa a fantastic new prospect were all salivating over
Carrick who has shone for years now and was many people's choice for player of the year
Jones who played as a CM in some of our best performances last year
Powell a promising youngster promised first te action with a big reputation
Fletcher - our injury ravaged home grown lad fighting to regain his fantastic form

And in the other area we have

Patrice Evra.

LB

They sent Fabio out on loan, so it is pretty desperate now.

Plus I think finding a left back who adds something to our squad is both easier and cheaper than finding a midfielder who offers something different.

But maybe neither will happen. In which case Evra better not get injured, because if he does United are going to be more limited in attack.

This Brady kid sure is talented, but I think he lacked a bit of pace to make it as a winger at United. Perhaps this is why the manager has decided to try converting Brady to fullback where his left-footedness and comfort on the ball are difficult qualities to find.

We're a centre midfield player away from a Champions League winning team in my opinion.

Evans can play left back...

LB easily. I honestly don’t get what you lot are on about. We badly need quality cover or competition for that position, that now is unjustifiably non-existent.
