Latest on NESTA front!

Anyway, let's take all this cash, forget all this defender crap, and sign Ronaldo.

----------------------------------------------
Sod the defence, let's score some! :D

Play Pikachu at the back, and five up front. Easy. ;)

I think people underestimate Brown and O'Shea far too much. What did a certain Alan Hansen say after certain big players were offloaded? Hmmmm. SAF knows his kids very very well, and is starting to play them........

Yorke will go, bring in something between 4-6 million. IMO, what we should do with that is buy a decent cover for the role Irwin played, ie a good alround fullback. Then, sell Paul Scholes. Then, go and offer a shed load to Inter for Ronaldo.

Ok, many people think that both Brown and O'Shea are not ready to take on the world along with Blanc. So what? They'll learn bloody quickly enough when they are played week in week out.

All these worries come from glory supporters that think that it's a tradgedy of almost end of the world proportions that we didn't win anything last year. Stick the kids in I say, and let them get the playing time under their belts to give them the experience they need to develop. People go on about Ferdinand, but he only developed into what he is becuase he played all of the time.

Why spend massive amounts of cash on imported defenders when we probably have two of the biggest defensive prospects in English football?

Ok, we might not win anything next year if they play in defence, but they wont get overrun my any attack, and it will do them good for the future!

And if we signed Ronaldo as well, and played him alongside RVN, then we wouldn't loose that much at all. Instead of spending shed loads on the defence, let's spend shed loads on Ronaldo and then we'll score shed loads.

It's a game about putting the ball in the back of the net after all.

:D

and apart from Brazil 70, was there EVER a succesful team that defended badly?? a club the size of United cannot afford another season empty-handed. It'll cost the club a lot in terms of lost revenue (all those glory hunters jumping ship, let's face it, none of us like the glory guys, but they PAY!!).

Nesta is IMHO the best defender in the World (comparable to Maldini in his prime) and he should do everything we can to sign this guy. I agree we shouldn't (and can't) force a transfer if he doesn't want to play in England, but people are making too much out of the cold weather, the Winter in Milan or Turin is no better than Manchester.

I don't think that a Brown/O'Shea would defend badly. Right now they wouldn't be the very best, but that's the whole point.

Remember what Alan Hansen said?

"You can't win anything with kids!"

No, not unless you play them!

Do you also remember the uproar of Ince and Kanchelskis being sold off? What happend? Alan Hansen made the most ridiculous statement of the decade!

feck em I say! If we don't win now we will very soon. Then the'll all come flooding back.

By giving Brown and O'Shea a real chance now they will develop and play for us for the next 10 years.

We could have all said the same thing about Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, G Neville, P Neville, Butt, etc.

Did you? Were you wrong?

SAF has said before that he admires Nesta! Many people think he is one of the best in the world. You however would prefer Gallas - great! Let's watch as the rest of the big clubs in Europe make major signings while we scrape the crap off the floor. Nesta IMO would cost less than Ferdinand as Lazio are in the shit, and even less because the owe us a big pile of dosh. Use your brain for once and see it makes the biggest amount of sense.

What do you mean by "srape the crap"? Do we buy shite players?

Unfortunately, this isn't the mid-90s when we had lesser ambitions in Europe. Brown and O'Shea may well hold their own against most of the Premiership sides but do you expect them to make an immediate impact in Europe?

Not being the very best like you said will cost us trophies and perhaps even a CL spot if you play them next season. The club can't afford to backslide any further just to wait for the "kids" to grow up - Brown is no longer a kid anyway, he's 22.

From what I understand of your statements, we need to buy the cream of the crop and let's just ignore players of the like s of gallas because they don't have enough star appeal - am I right?

In the mid 90's we had plenty of European ambition. We had arguably our greatest team ever in 1994. In the mid 90's we got to semis of the Chamions League. One of only hree times we have done that.
You should know that you being fan since the early 80's and all.
Why are you allways dissing on Brown? he made a couple of slips up last Autumn, was injured for 6 months but still had the class to get into the England squad. I would expect him to be a first choice for us next season. John O'Shea has impressed every time he played for us. He should feature even more this season. Playing young homegrown players gives the whole place a lift. I reckon they'd both do great in Europe.

This is a typical YOU statement, to sum it up,

Fuch the young players that the fans want to see come throught the first team, im ichk, and i want to see money spent and these fans favourites shipped off to Scunthorpe on loan until they cop on to theirselves and turn into 25 million pound players with nice sun tans that the dippers will admire and not tease me the way they tease me about Forlan.

Are you a Man utd fan? This club is over 100 yrs old and steeped in certain traditions, show it a bit of respect.

If the quotes are true, then Inter are going to become a strong candidate for the champions league... they'd an even more starstudded squad
than Real Madrid...

Well according to Inter fans on their forums it's bullcrap... the quotes are made up...

Hector Cuper coaches Inter, therefore they are the strongest candidates every to reach the final.

And lose.

Yes but there's a world of difference between Carew and Juan Sanchez v Ronaldo & Vieri. ;)

Well at least we'll know who we'll beat in the final then.

That was 97. Mid-90s would mean 94-96. And the thirst for European success in Fergie was never higher than now, he didn't go on and on about it circa 95-96 as he does now.

I have nothing against Brown or O'Shea. I just feel the former lacks the mental strength to make the grade at OT. You'll find that my opinion on this is by no means unique yet you keep picking on me about this because of your personal dislike of me. I agree about O'Shea though, hope he gets more playing time next season. Funny that you mention Brown as first choice - when we sign a new centre-half, who's going to be the choice pairing, Blanc, Brown or the new guy? Hmm.....

What is 97 classifified as then? Mid late 90's? Your saying Fergie didnt go on about the European cup in 1996? The European cup is all Fergie has talked about for the last 10 yrs. The thirst for European succes @ Man Uts has allways been high, perhaps even higher in the mid 90's than in the last few yrs as we hadnt won it for so long.

Your constantly knocking Brown, saying that for the good of Man Utd he should not be let near the team, as he's a liability. Hell never make it @ OT, guess what, he allready has. He has Championship medals, European medals and has played a good bit for his country and been to a world cup. Wes Brown had a few below par months last season, Beckham and Scholes had 6 below par months last season, are they liabilities to the team?

Nesta is my preference over Ferdinand. But my greater preference is for players who want to play for United. Strike Nesta off the list if those quotes are true and lets move on.

The quotes are as true as the Sun rising in the West

no according to Lazio fansite (who introduced the quote earlier as well), it's now proved as a made up

Italian press might be worse than British press as they seem more eager to make up quotes...
