La Liga 2018/19

La Liga just gives me the 'oh okay it's Barca's or Real's turn to win the league now' kind of vibe. No real 'prestige' attached to it, and little hype. In fact, both on the Caf and Reddit, Real's CL wins have been praised and mentioned far more often than Barca's league titles of the past decade.
Yes but doesn't that say a lot about the CL as well, the fact that getting top 4 here is getting more important that winning a trophy, any trophy. At least the Spanish clubs still take their cup seriously and the EL seriously and always have. It is only this season and the media obsession with the chance of Liverpool winning the league that is adding interest for some. Last season wasn't interesting at all to me.

That's because Barca have been sleepwalking to the title in the majority of the last few years and Atletico has done a horrible job at challenging.
13/14 Atletico win on final gameday, drawing at Camp Nou. A win by barcelona would have given them the league. Real Madrid could have been in the mix as well had we not given up a week before to focus on CL final
14/15 Barcelona 94 Real madrid 92, league won with 1 game in hand
15/16 Barcelona 91 Real Madrid 90 Atletico 89(?) League won on final gameday
16/17 we won the league on final gameday 93-90
17/18 Barcelona went unbeaten until week 37. Yes, they were virtually never challenged, but they definitely did not sleepwalk their way

Real Betis beat Athetico Madrid 1-0. Betis move up to 6th, Atletico Madrid are 6 points off Barcelona and Real Madrid can go 2 points behind them if they beat Alaves tonight.

Benzema was onside ffs. There is VAR FFS

These mistakes are unacceptable  and it keeps happening against us of all teams

Bah.

Vinicius is my new son

That (Benzema acutally onside) is why we shouldn't work with VAR at offsides decisions.
That is why VAR is needed actually. Incompetent refs can't be allowed to keep fecking up teams with their mistakes

We're getting ripped of and denied clear goals game after game. This is now insane..

No one's accountable. Those refs just do what they want..

Linesman shouldn't flag there, till play finished. Can't possibly have been sure he was off. Maybe forgot that or seeing things.

Finishing is the main thing he's lacking at the moment but good to see him score. Has cemented himself as a starter. Will probably end up back on the bench next season with Hazard, Rodrygo and possibly Eriksen (yeah, I know he's not a winger but he's an attacker) coming in.

He’s been performing rather well for a 18 year old. And at Real Madrid at that. Not an easy place for a young player.

Great second half from Vinicius. Let's hope he can keep progressing like this. Odriozola was great aswell

Karim's playing out of his mind right now and this might sound counterintuitive, but it's now that we're finally fully fit and in form that the absence of Cristiano is really noticeable. We still struggle to create clear cut chances, mainly down to poor final balls and decisions. But that stuff had been there all along, Cristiano's otherwordly ability in the box masked that. Right now we have only Benzema in the box most of the time and it shows. We need either a true killer to replace Benzema, or a dynamic midfielder who attacks the box and can act as a shadow striker.

Mind, part of that issue is down to Bale's injuries and the coaching, so with a better coach we might fix that at least partially. Nothing we can do about Bale's crystal legs unfortunately...

This is a transition year for Madrid anyway. I’m sure you guys will spend big in the summer and back to challenging for the league in no time.

Very excited for the months matchups. Our defense is leaky as hell

Just read a BBC article wanking about Vinicius' performance in the match this weekend. Had a casual look at a compilation of all his touches:-

Er, am I meant to be blown away? He looks composed, and calm. His finish was made to look quite easy. It kinda was actually. But otherwise the compilation seemed quite meh. I haven't seen his other matches. How has he been? What kind of level could he achieve? There's nothing in that video that puts him near the level of Martial, who I rate as pretty good. And I've seen plenty of young footballers better than Martial over the years.

I realise a single youtube compilation isn't much, so I guess I'm asking is there more to him than this video (maturity, composure, the odd trick, lots of passing back and sideways)?

You can keep your Vinicius....Rayo signed Franco Di Santo I see.

and it was on a free transfer.

Yeah just doing a bit more research on it. He was awful in the prem but I remember him having a good season or two in Bundesliga for Bremen and then he got a bad injury at Schalke.

Rayo like taking a prem misfit, had Bebe and Manucho playing for them in recent seasons.

So good to see Vallecas on a Monday night packed to the rafters, Rayo get better crowds now than in early 00s when they were qualifying for europe and just 6k were turning up.

I think we are all still finding out his football skills.
He also has a very good long pass, vision for the last pass and is very good at free kicks.
Personally I think the best is his potential. Everyone can do dribbling and tricks, but not at the Bernabéu with 18 years, in the worst crisis in years.
There is a journalist who says that Vini was a little scared in the first trainings and that he constantly failed in tactical issues and decision making in the attack area.
I think he has improved very quick in his decisions and can do much more.
He needs more goals, and that's why I have doubts about his development in the current position

Thank god for Nyom being a moron, Leganes have outplayed Rayo here.

Trying to forget that atrocity of a second goal happened.....conceding a goal from a corner against 10 men....:nervous:

Would have been a massive win for Rayo yesterday.

They are at least 10 teams who can get relegated this season . Gonna be a crazy fight.

Spanish posters! Can anyone help me find tickets for Thursday's Betis Vs Valencia game? I'm traveling through Andalusia over the next week and I really want to catch a game while I'm here.
