La Liga 2018/19

Doesn't look as if Barca and Real fancy the La Liga title this season.

Bad for Valencia and I might add for Portugal too.

How the hell did Barca and Madrid end with Valverde and Lopetegui as their managers ? Desperate days.
What is more funny is that Lopetegui as a head coach of Real Madrid is actually a follower of Guardiola ideas while Valverde as a coach of Barca is more in the mould of Mourinho type of managers...

brilliant moment for my stream to die. now I didn't see what he did, just feck off

For things of VAR: that foul by Gaya on Suarez? It was outside the box. So even though it was a clear foul and even though VAR went to check, they couldn't intervene because it would have been a free kick and they can't interfere with free kicks

Comical passing. Valverde again at it - no subs when they are clearly needed.

Valverde and Lopetegui are making eachother keep their jobs.

Did Valverde forget he could make subs today?
I’ve defended him in the past but I have no idea what he’s been doing recently.

No wins in 4 consecutive league games vs Girona, Leganes, Athletic and Valencia is awful. All of those teams are on the bottom half of the table.

Barcelona are so shit. Juventus won at Valencia and they couldn't win against a pub team (or something) .... \s.

This league this season . Barca and Real don't want to win it. Hopefully they can keep it up until the end.

Arthur looks good. Fecking hell. Why do they keep signing the players we should sign

Is Luis Suarez among the top 30 strikers in world football right now? His technical ability is something else, can’t control a 5 yard pass. He’s been awful for a long time now, hopefully his last season at Barca.

Every single time Barcelona don’t win a game you make a post shitting on Luis Suarez. It’s incredible, it never fails.

He was alright tonight, he was fantastic at Wembley during the week and he was easily a top 5 striker in the world last season. He’ll still start for Barcelona next season.

Suarez was bad, Coutinho not much better. but Arthur really looks like one of the best Barca buys in recent years. it's incredible how well he adapted already. no wrong move or touch from him tonight, literally.

This season I doubt any team will make much more than 80 points. Some might call it being more competetive, I would say neither of the top 3 look great.

Paco was absolute crap too...
Luis Suarez is supposed to be Barca’s main man along with Messi, and he can’t do anything well besides a lay-off once in a while. Control is awful, passing absolute crap and his work-rate gets worse by the game. If you seriously think he was good tonight, you need your eyes checked. At Wembley his two best actions was when not touching the ball, says it all about Suarez right now.

What's happened to dembele?

He'll have a tough time getting games, when Arthur continues to perform. Coutinho is ahead of him in the pecking order. He looked really good at times and I'd say he is still one of the most promising talents in the world. That said, he needs a manager, who understands him and trusts him. Getting a few minutes here and there while being very restricted is probably not putting him in a position, where he can realize his talent. He should look for a move next summer, if Valverde stays at the club (or if the next manager doesn't fancy him).

Suarez definitely wasn't good today. Many misplaced touches, bad decisions and no real goal threat. I think potentially he is still among the best strikers in Europe but he lost his mojo sometime ago. His movements and link up play is still okay but you'd expect more from the main striker of a team like Barcelona. There are many forwards out there who offer more than Suarez, currently.

I think what Barca's missing is a clear plan to open up defenses. They are good in possession and you have to give Valverde credit for the superb counter pressing he reinstalled they are too reliant on individual brillance. Especially since only Messi and now and then Coutinho add this dimension to their game. Valverde should copy sme attacking patterns of the current City side IMO.

Would love him at Utd but it would be pointless with Jose still here

What is the consensus on Suarez in last year or so? He is probably one of the worst strikers playing for top team. I have no idea how is he avoiding any major criticisim, he is fecking terrible. Probably worse than Rooney used to be.

Ehh... Barca supporters are complaining about him since 2017 like people here did with Rooney.
He has fancy stats (25 G, 12 A is insane) in the league, that might save him a bit.

Just for comparison sake, Suarez hit 31 goals in 51 games last season, while Lukaku scored 27 in the same number of games. Everyone can judge their supporting cast for themselves. He can still have a great game here and there, but that's nowhere good enough considering his reputation and money he's on.

He’s not supposed to be Barca’s main man along with Messi. Those times are gone.

He’s declined, his touch on the ball has always been questionable and it’s gotten worse but he’s still very good regardless. Still clearly more than good enough to start for Barcelona anyway.

If the likes of Lewandowski or Cavani were playing for Barcelona, the fans would give them every bit of the criticism Suarez gets. Just like Paco Alcacer got it too.

31 goals in 51 matches is not good enough? Lukaku is the main goalscorer of the team, Suarez isn’t. Judging goalscorers by their supporting casts is nonsense, it depends on a lot more than that.

In my opinion, it isn't. I'd expect Alcacer for example to score a similar amount if given proper preseason and made a starting #9. I'd expect literally any decent striker to do the same. Suarez himself has shown how a truly elite #9 looks in 2015/16, and he wasn't the main goalscorer on paper either, didn't stop him from hitting 60 goals.

It's not just about the goals. Aside his work rate and off the ball movement which you can't fault really, everything else fell off a cliff. Dribbling, technique, finishing, you name it. Nearly everyone who watches Barcelona week in week out is in agreement, and you're still pushing that top 5 argument.

I don’t just watch Barcelona every week, I watch the other guys too.

His dribbling and technique is still better than the likes of Icardi, Costa, Cavani or Mandzukic though... when him and Cavani play together for Uruguay it’s obvious who the better player is.

Saying it’s easy to score over 30 goals in a season is laughable, no matter who they’re playing for. Same bullshit argument that people said about Ronaldo in Madrid and how Bale would easily score just as much if used in the same role. If Suarez took penalties and freekicks he’d have hit 40 goals for the season last year for fecks sake and there are loads of people acting as if he should retire... it’s bonkers.

He did that in a system that doesn’t get the best out of him either.
It’s not the people that watch Barcelona every week that are in agreement over Suarez, it’s the people for whom it’s convenient to scapegoat him. Same way that Paco was crap and now he isn’t anymore.

Barcelona board who watch the games every week will agree with me and next season Luis Suarez will be Barcelona’s starting striker. If that somehow doesn’t happen, watch him tear things up for whatever top club he joins without any of the unfair criticism.

So everyone just wants to scapegoat poor Luis Suarez? He's literally half the player he was two-three years ago. You feel that's still good enough, I simply disagree. I'm not saying he should retire or anything, but a clear cut starter he certainly shouldn't be, not on this current form at least. There needs to be a second option, and if he doesn't perform, he goes on the bench, as simple as that. He also shouldn't be playing 50+ games per season anyway, not with his punishing style of play and the fact that he's 31 already.

This incumbent Barcelona board has bought Andre Gomes and Arda Turan, I'd be wary of using their opinion as a barometer on anything.

He should have a second option on the bench, that’s obvious. He did actually have it last season in Paco Alcacer but it didn’t stop any of the criticism even though both of them were playing in a system that didn’t get the best out of them. I agree that he shouldn’t be playing 50 games a season too and I heavily criticized Valverde here for his lack of rotation last season.

Suarez is not as good as he was a few years ago but there are loads of people questioning if he’s even one of the best 30 strikers in the world or if he should stop playing at the top level.... There are people comparing him to washed up Rooney :wenger: It’s insane the criticism he gets

It doesn’t even matter how he plays, I guarantee you that next time Barcelona loses points you’re going to see a couple of comments about him being shit.

Yeah, I'm certainly not in that camp. I don't watch much football outside the big two in Spain and top 6 PL games basically, so I have no idea how Cavani, Lewa, Icardi and the rest are doing aside from the CL games, you might be right that Suarez still compares favorably to them, it's just kind of sad remembering the absolute beast he was during say 2015/16 and watching him now.

That being said, someone should ring Valverde and inform him that you need to have a nearly watertight defense if you want to grind out results serie A '90s style, with Pique roughly giving away a goal per game in the last few games, it just ain't gonna work. Most damning, judging by the lack of substitutions he seemed to be satisfied with a draw at least to an extent.

I don't really get how you came to this conclusion. Cavani carried Uruguay through WC qualifiers, he was even more dominating during the world cup itself when Suarez was absolutely terrible. There's nothing obvious about what you're describing.
