La Liga 2017/18

Match 5 | 19/21 September
The midweek matches. From the BBC so all times are UK.

TUESDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER
Valencia 19:00 Malaga
Barcelona 21:00 Eibar

WEDNESDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER
Athletic 19:00 Atletico Madrid
Leganés 19:00 Girona
Deportivo La Coruña 20:00 Alavés
Real Madrid 21:00 Real Betis
Sevilla 21:00 Las Palmas

THURSDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER
Villarreal 19:00 Espanyol
Celta Vigo 20:00 Getafe
Levante 21:00 Real Sociedad

Athletic v Atletico should be a good one. Barca are the only team who've not dropped points, and that's not likely to change tonight, even without Dembele. Real Madrid will be hoping to get their first home Liga win, and Ronaldo will be expected to score on his Liga debut.

Valencia beating Malaga 4-0 with about 15 minutes to play. Zaza has a second half hattrick - after a row last week where his girlfriend moaned on social media about his manager not giving enough match time :smirk:

Valencia win 5-0. Malaga have zero points, and only one goal after five games.

Semedo is such a great transfer. He's gonna be the best RB in the world in 2 years max.

When he learns how to defend. He's great in these games, let's see when the big games come around.

I doubt he'll even be starting ahead of Cedric in the World Cup tbh (if we get there).

Marcelo can't defend either. If he becomes a shit version of Dani Alves, I'm sure they'll take it. Most Brazilian and Portuguese "full-backs" are basically wingers. Cancelo is also really good at attacking.

You're right. If Barça can control matches then he'll be fine defensively but it seems pretty weird to say he'll be the best right back in the world 2 years from now when he's rightly not even a starter for Portugal.

Yeah, Portugal is going to be a different question for Semedo, but with Barcelona he will shine as long as he has the engine to be up and back like Alves used to do.

I never rated Alves, Alba, Marcelo or even Carvajal defensive skills, but they're brilliant players for their spot in dominant teams

Weird, Alves is a one man wing monster, in his prime he dominated a whole flank on his on. In one vs ones he was very strong, just ask Cristiano, he used to have a torrid time everytime he came up against Dani.

Barça don't look great here. Opinion seems to have changed a lot since the Super Cup games but this still seems like a team with plenty of problems.

YES! Get in Paulinho!

How I missed a guy like this, the Seydou Keita that gave us so much

Don't remember who it was who called me a cnut for moaning about paulinho going to be great for barca. Don't argue with me, I am always right. FFS

He had his brilliant moments (most of them usually defending at the space and tackling) because he was a monster, but I never rated him as a good defender 1vs1 from a static position, let's say "classic" defending.

The problem with Alves was that you could beat him from static and he would be back behind you in a second, if he was more of a solid defender (Abidal comes to mind) his game would've aged much better

He defends fine.

Good header by Paulinho!

Barcelona winning without looking particularly good.

A lot of their problems persist. Think they'll get exposed when they play a top team.

Juve are not a great team?.

Have in mind, we lack Suarez (well, have been for months in a way) Dembele, Rakitic and Umtiti today, this is a game to win, not to seduce

Juve were missing a few players, but that was still an impressive result tbf.

Messi must be absolutely fuming playing alongside Deulofeu, it should be 5 or 6 here.

He doesn't need anyone else, sublime finish with such little room.
