Great finish from Franco Vázquez to round off a nice team move. 4-3 !

@SfcNervion you see Sampaoli is nothing like a tiki-taka purist, I'd guess you're liking what you're seeing in terms of offensive play anyway :D

Thanks. I appreciate it. Sadly I can't watch the game.

You're missing a spectacle... 5-3 now, after an incredibly fluid move from a throw-in in their own half, Vietto and Sarabia combining so vertical and direct through the middle that play and a calm finish from Ben Yedder after being put thru by Sarabia

6-3, Kiyotake after a good tackle from N'Zonzi(?) gets the ball to Franco Vázquez who plays a thru-ball in for Kiyotake to slot under Roberto. Some of the touches, passing, movement and combinations from Sevilla in this game and for Espanyol's first goal has been incredible.

If not for some of Roberto's saves this could've been 9-3 easily.

6-4, Gerard Moreno with a great solo goal after intercepting a poor backpass in Sevilla's own half. Still had a defender and GK to beat which he did brilliantly really.

What a fckin game

It's got to be expected though as Barcelona and Real are two of the best teams in world football, they would do the same in any league. Do it in the CL as well.

It's also not as bad as made out either, for example Barcelona won by 3 or more goals 15 times last season. Man City who were poor and finished fourth won by that amount 10 times.
That's almost half the games. City only won half their games in total. City scored the most in the league last season but Barca scored 41 goals more. It's a silly comparison.

It always gets around to the same thing again but the reason that Barca and Real are so giant is because they've been taking all the money and even with the recent changes the difference is still huge. Aston Villa last season got more money for TV than Valencia but they weren't close to Real or Barca. Imagine the NBA but Cleveland and Oklahoma have no wage cap. That's La Liga. If it weren't for the sheer amount of games that the teams play they would get close or over 100 points every season.

@SfcNervion I already like you. Keep on posting :)

I am humbled and it makes me happy:) The feeling is mutual. You missed a hell of a game. Even if all-out-of-attack is entertaining, we won't survive at all in the long run. No more finals. No more EL:lol: Unless the defence gets sorted out. Our attack has actually never been this entertaining since 2007 maybe, I admit that I loved every bit of our attacks. But if the defensive play does not get improved by every game...Well; I am terrified on how we will stand in CL, what if Bayern Munchen meets this defence? Fast pace players like Cristiano, Bale, Gameiro and Gaitan will have christmas against this defence, barca will kill us efficiently and quickly if they go for 100% performance, and not playing at 50%, as they did in the spanish super cup (yet, they killed us quite efficiently anyway). But not gonna be too pessimistic, we got 3p, that is all what counts for now.

Wow, just wow. What a game. I missed the first 25 minutes and they had already scored 4 goals by then lol. Thank God there was 6 more to come!

The level of technique displayed during the Sevilla - Espanyol highlights has been significantly better than any PL game this weekend. I guess it's because they were the highlights.

It's the best thing about the league, every team can play football if they want too. Add to the fact that so many players in the league are actually Spanish and it's as clear as day as watching their national team how far ahead they were in the 90's and onward with their youth training.

Betis, in the first half (before being dismantled in the 2nd) played some great football. Spanish are much easier on the eye than the ones in England for sure.

Yea, they usually do against the big sides until they concede for the 2nd time. After that they lose discipline which often results in many more goals conceded but it doesn't matter since H2H is what counts and not GD.

The old technique argument again. It only goes so far though. Given huge amount of foreign players in the PL, plus foreign managers (the vast majority in both instances), most of which come from highly 'technical' leagues - isnt' it amazing that they suddenly forget it all when they move to England?

Or could it just be that the Premier League is generally played at a much faster pace, with more lenient refereeing, leading to an environment where more mistakes are made. Seems obvious. I don't think La Liga players, on the whole, are any more technical than premier league ones (given most are from the same pool of countries), it's just they play in an environment where they can or can't show it as much.

With all that said, La Liga would be so much better if the money (and ultimately talent) was spread more evenly. That said, as Messi and Iniesta eventually decline, I doubt we'll see a Barca this dominant again for a long time.

Some serious delusion there.

La Liga teams have won ALL European tropheys over the last 3 years. Meanwhile, PL teams have reached 1 final in EL and one semifinal in the CL. Arguably, any of their top 3 teams is better than any of the top English teams.

Things may change in a year or two but as things stand now there is a gap in class.

So you are just ignoring his entire argument based on the achievements of 4 teams in the league over the last three seasons?

Nothing to do with superior technicality IMO. Just better put together teams. It's all cyclical. From 2005 to 2012 there was an English team in the final every single year, except one; and 2 or 3 English teams in the semi final. But no-one was saying it was technically superior in the premier league.

Real and Barca just have an insane pool of talent, and Simeone has done an incredible job. He'll probably end up in England within two years. Sevilla have done well in the Europa League, a trophy English teams have never taken seriously until Klopp made a proper play for it last year (and got to the final).

They have better teams right now. But the whole 'technical' argument is just smoke and mirrors.

If you can't see that La Liga palyers are generally more skilful on the ball, any debate is meaningless. This is as obvious as it gets.

I agree about the cycles though.

I can see that Spanish players are generally better on the ball than English players; but how many English players are in the first XI of any of the top half teams? Not many. And those that are, are generally pretty technically proficient. Look at United's first XI - Zlatan, Mata, Micki, Martial, Pogba, Herrera, Blind etc. Huge technical proficiency. Arsenal - Chocked full of technique, included superstars from La Liga (Sanchez & Ozil). Can't be bothered to go on.

It's the pace of the game, and the physicality permissible in England that diminishes the role of technique. Not the players.

I don't think you can put all english teams in the same bracket. The top english teams have better technique than the smaller ones because they are almost entirely filled with foreigners, good quality foreigners. The smaller english teams also have in general some good foreign players but they fill the rest of their squad with british players, not even the best british players like Bale or Ramsey but a tier or two below them.

Please do. Did the likes of Fabregas, David Silva, Ander Herrera lose their technical ability when they joined the Premier League?

First, Spanish and South American players are generally better on the ball than the British ones and there are much more Spanish and South-American palyers in La Liga than in the EPL, obvisously. Second, that certain players are from the same country doesn't mean that they all are at the same level technically wise. The best Spanish and South American players are in La Liga.

Money and managers can change the situation within several years but right now La Liga are in a class of their own.

And I think La Liga's dominance in Europe I think says a lot more about the mismanagement of the top PL clubs than anything about La Liga itself. Barcelona and Real Madrid for a long time had the two most expensive squads in the World and Diego Simeone has been doing wonders with Atletico. Without PL clubs to challenge them in the CL and PSG not up to that standard yet only Bayern and Juve could really challenge them with the current wealth disparity in European Football. Real were able to win it last season without being impressive at all in the KO stages.

4 pages of thread, the first round of games didn't finish yet and we have already the first debate "la liga is boring" .As soon as the spanish teams don't win in Europe there will be a total siege

For me personally I just find it silly that especially in this era where the big clubs have so much power over everyone else success of Real or Barca is somehow success for all of Spanish Football. If we are able to win the CL in the near future I do not think it shows the strength of English Football that we had the money to get Pogba and other so I do not know why Real or Barca's success is somehow a triumph for all of Spanish Football.

Even the best EPL teams in the past decade were made to look average technically. United 07/08 and Chelsea 04/06.

Whenever they came up against Barcelona or AC Milan.. We had to play second fiddle because these teams moved the ball around with more class.

English league has always been behind in terms of technique but it has learnt to compete through greater physicality and tactical sophistication.

In the past few years the tactical sophistication has been non existent and we haven't out powered sides either so on a pure technical front we haven't been able to compete which is why English league has been shit in Europe.

With Conte, Pep and Jose here.. I don't envisage this situation remaining for long.

But this is ignoring the massive success of Sevilla and Atlético on the European stage over the last years, as well as the three successive tournaments the Spanish national team has won. And the importance of Spanish players for most non-Spanish top teams. And the fact that every few years they produce a new generation of talents that is bound to have an impact on European football.

I think there can be no doubt that Spanish football was the No.1 force in Europe for the last 8 years or so, and by a huge margin.

The Bundesliga threads are already ruined. Can you guys stop doing the same in this one? The discussion about the strength of each league always ends up to be petty point scoring. The same arguments are just getting repeated over and over again. If you really desire to waste your time with that, do it in a new thread, please.

It's not a silly comparison at all.

Comparing the two most talented and attacking teams in both leagues to prove it's a complete myth.

Your first sentence just further backs up the point, City won ten less games, yet Barcelona only won by 3 or more goals FIVE times more than Man City. Yet we have this joke of a claim Barcelona/Real wouldn't do similar in England or they win easy every week. Winning half of your games by 2 goals or less is not having it easy every single week!

Would get over 90 points in England.
