La Liga 2013-2014

I've not been watching the game but I know Costa is injured and Turan has been subbed too. Is this totally one-sided? Do Atletico look dangerous at all?

Even if they beat Palace they would still have finished second. They lost because they got beat by a Chelsea team that did the double over City too.

That's a silly way of looking at it. Who knows how city would have responded if Liverpool had matched their points total, as opposed to being given a safety net?

People say cortois should have saved it.... Are you serious?

Messi booked for kicking the ball away. Grumpy tit.

Alexis Sánchez is so good. Don't know why he didn't start the big games earlier on in the season.

Hope Atlético somehow get back into this but they've had no luck so far...

I agree. Massive bottle job by both Madrid clubs, but particularly Atletico. If Barcelona win it today despite being out of it three weeks ago, it just shows how much Atletico have choked come crunch time.

Barcelona lose and it's that their shit, the capital clubs lose and they've choked. Nothing like balanced nevermind rational takes

It has been an even game. Barca haven't created much besides the goal but neither have Atletico.

Yes. If you're a top keeper you can just about deal with that due to the distance. Its still a great strike but thats the only thing Courtois had to worry about

Quiet now, the grown ups are speaking.

This is annoying. I've got the Cup Final on the telly and the Liga final on a (legal!) stream. I thought I'd soon settle down to watch one or the other, but I still want to see both.

Very, very, irritating.

So instead of looking at the results rationally we should instead quantify bottling by hypothetical situations?

The defender was blocking Courtois' view. That coupled with the power in the shot makes it very hard to save. I don't think De Gea would have saved it either.

It was right in the top corner, hit at ferocious pace from relatively near the goal.

He shouldn't 'just be able to deal with it at all'. It was a ridiculous strike.

Barca's season can't be compared to ours. There's has been transitional, ours has been a collapse.

Both us and barca were supposed to be in transition after the departures of successful managers in fergie and pep. I was drawing comparison based on how both the clubs started this season with new mangers who were from smaller clubs and are yet to prove themselves on the big stage.

Of course. Because that's exactly how football works right? Pressure and mentality have no impact whatsoever on results or performances.

Come off it, no keeper in the world would have stopped that. It was completely out of the blue and I doubt he could even see it.

Obviously they do, but to claim that they bottled it because of what might have happened is silly. They lost 2 of their last 20 games.

No chance for Courtois ffs. That was absolutely unstoppable. It's not physically possible to move your body fast enough to get in front of it.

Messi could have been sent off. He should have got booked for that tackle from behind on villa earlier.

It seems whenever a goalkeeper is beaten at the nearpost the default is to blame the GK. But that was hit with such power and was rising, there is no way he could've reacted in time. Especially with his view covered by a crowd of players.

3 yards from covering the front post (0:40). If he was in a good position he doesn't need to dive to his side

Barca have been poor IMO. Couple of good crosses but otherwise no precision passing to cut the defense into pieces like they can. Messi really is in quite bad form.

Atletico can score here. That 5 minute spell was great for them at the end of the half. They have to back themselves here, Barca don't have the intensity in defense to see them out if they attack consistently. Trouble would be affording Barca the space in return, they have to hope Messi keeps up his poor display.

the last few months they seem a shadow of their former selves - almost like the hunger and desire has gone - a question of motivation? the inevitability of what goes up must come down.....its crazy that I am saying this when they are 45 minutes away from being champions but relatively speaking they have definitely declined....

wish we had played this Barca in Rome/London
