What profile of midfielder do you think you need?

In a perfect world we'd need 2, a good box to box and a good DM. But i'll settle for just a good box to box with a good workrate, someone like Barella, De Jong, Kimmich, etc. The thing is, most players aren't on the market (Kimmich will never leave Bayern, De Jong is the last player Barça will sell etc.) so I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens with Pogba even if his defensive workrate isn't great.

Yeah, if Pogba comes the issue somewhat remains, although it is lessened. I guess Marquinhos can play DM, he's solid regardless of where he plays and with a player like Pogba by his side, it'll make the job a bit easier.

If i was a Real Madrid fan, i'd pray he comes for free next season. You guys need far more than Mbappé to secure the future of the team and you could use a lot of this 180M+ to buy other elite players at weaker postitions.

Mbappé values Real Madrid because it's Real Madrid and he's a huge Ronaldo fan, he saw his idole with this jersey and want to follow his footseps. What confuses a lot of PSG fan is that he claimed several times he wanted a competitve team and as of right now, PSG is more competitive than Real Madrid. But it was the kid's dream, we knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. Most of us are just pissed he deceived the club and the fans making them believe he would extend was PSG to improve the team (and they did, especially with Hakimi, Messi and Wijnaldum).

You might be right about being better he leaving on a free but I think this offer is something like an offer on good will by Real Madrid, although they don't seem happy about it in PSG's camp, like it would be a lot worse for PSG to have the player walk away for free.

Then as for Real Madrid the money could be spent elsewhere. Ideally most fans would want both Mbappe and Haaland but we just lost our cb pairing and Modric and kroos would need replacements. Still Mbappe would give a boost to the morale of the team and fans and I think is better to have have him as soon as posible in order for him to play alongside Benzema; I'm sure he can learn a lot from him.

As for Mbappe it might be tempting to stay another season with PSG as they have a good chance at winning the UCL he could then leave as a champion but that isn't a given but let's see. Maybe this is like many are suggesting a charade to pretend Real Madrid is trying to get him and PSG plays hard and then he stays another season and goes to Real Madrid next one. If he leaves now it would have to be something around 180 million.

I'm just not buying Real Madrid is spending 180m for goodwill towards PSG for a player they believe they can get for free next summer. The most likely reason is they are worried on the open market other teams will present a much better project that will trump his dream of playing for Real Madrid (because I think that's not as important of an aspect as is made out to be, he turned down that dream already at 18 when Madrid was in a stronger position for titles). The other reason I can think of, and it's probably completely off, but maybe it's true that Mbappe is not going to screw over PSG and Monaco as well. That if Real Madrid doesn't meet PSG's valuation, they keep him and he signs a short extension with a release clause. He's got nothing to lose either way, he'll get a bump in money with PSG and play with probably the best team in Europe right now and can leave at 23/24 or he leaves this summer and becomes the face of Real Madrid and PSG/Monaco get a nice chunk of change.

Either way, I'm not buying for one second that this is just about treating PSG right to offer such a ridiculous sum on a player's last year of contract who's supposedly desperate to go there for free next summer. Something just doesn't add up there.

Our starting eleven if we sign mbappé: courtois-carvajal-militao-alaba-mendy-casemiro-valverde-kroos-benzema-mbappé-bale/vinicius/rodrygo

Flo is obsessed with Mbappé, but the fact is by signing him we *are* getting an elite player at our weakest position.

Othereise it's depth we lack

The midfield is in the state of decay and so is the defense

The best DM in the world, a young, promising physical specimen, and toni kroos is a state of decay? How many clubs can boast better? To a degree of making a big difference?

Defence, on the other hand, yeah.

Modric is gone, Kroos is not far behind - slow and laborious - we've seen him be ineffective in high stake games in the WC/Euros and last CL;s - the drive is gone, and with good reason, he's won it all.

Casemiro is good, Valverde I haven't seen much (Injured/not starting?)

I think City, Chelsea, Bayern are easily better in midfield and will dominate the middle of the park, while teams with great attack like PSG, Liverpool, United can easily hurt that defense.

So, no I don't think Mbappe will make you CL contenders - that Mbappe money could be put to better use with players like Kounde, Laporte, Camavinga etc available on decent prices.

He also shredded liverpool in CL, and had plenty if big performances in high stake games. Both he and Modric have flaws, but they're both still among the very best midfielders in the world

By contrast, an attack of Benzema and Mbappé fed by Kroos can easily hurt anyone as well

And why can't we get those guys next year?

That’s insane amount in COVID market. Real could have just wait 1 more year to sign him for free.
Imagine that we are talking about United. The most coveted young player on the market wants to play with you, he has even rejected offers that would make him earn 8/10 million more a year.
Despite Covid United presented good accounts and have sold many players during this time, from deadwood, to young talents, to the middle class or veterans.
In this case, what would you do if the price is 180? would you wait a year?
What happens if during that year he ends up accepting one of those offers, or sees that United are having a bad season and changes his mind, or renews two more years, lengthening the process even more.

Do you think Real will pay 215m? It seems too much for a player with one year in contract.

I do not know if they would go that high, from 160 to 215 there is a lot of money.
I think that if they get him it will be for less

Wait, Kroos hurt Liverpool who lost 6 in a row at Anfield and played without any established CB? Well done Toni.

And how did it go with Chelsea? City the year before? Madrid’s midfield was completely overrun. And next year if they meet again (or City)it will be the same outcome.

Those players may not be available next year. You can save yourself 160M plus if you wait a year.

But of course, if Real Madrid overpay PSG/Qatar by 100M or so, Perez can make it back on the next construction project he does for the Emir. Perez uses club money to overpay then earns it back into HIS pocket a few years later. Billionaires eh

I think 160m is an incredibly fair offer from madrid. They should make one more bid at around 180 and see whether PSG accepts it. What I am interested is whether madrid have any plan to sign Haaland as well.

I would wait a year to sign him for free, knowing that his dream is to play for United of course. While at the same time spend the budget on other positions such as new DM and RB.

However if his dream is to play for elsewhere, than I may try to sign him this sumner if given the chance, knowing that next summer he would most probably going elsewhere for free.

If Mbappe is signed, maybe the fans and the club will forget Haaland a bit, but the stadium will really be ready for 2022/23 and Florentino will surely be on the market again.

If we sign Mbappe and don't win shit everyone is going to be rabid about getting Haaland. Personally I think the club should go after Haaland as well, he's still very young but I don't know how feasible it would to have both of them alongside Benzema, they're both very young and would prefer they to play along a senior like Benzema but if Haaland comes it would be to replace Benzema, or that's what I think.

I don't know what the result would be but if Madrid sign Mbappe and face City it will be interesting to see Guardiola press up like crazy against Mbappe, Benzema and a way more clinical and extremely pacey Vinicius as opposed to injured Hazard, Benzema and teenager Rodrygo.

We didn't have Valverde fit in those ties, and regardless of liverpool's issues, it was a high stakes game :D

Maybe those specific players won't, but others of the same quality will be.

Look, to be honest I'm kinda of bipolar about Mbappé and Florentino's obsession with him

On the one hand i don't believe he's worth that money, no one is. On the other hand...it's fecking Mbappé. Would Laporte, Camavinga and say Sterling improve us more than Mbappé? I'm not so sure...

Now if the option was Mbappé or VvD+De Jong+Sancho then yeah, i'd take the latter

Well aren't you modest

To be honest, the Messi signing doesn't suit PSG as much if Mbappe leaves. For me, although everyone has talked about the Messi-Neymar partnership, that was a younger version of both players and presently given Messi's emphasis on playmaking and creativity, Mbappe's pace and running in behind would be a far better fit. Out of those three, Messi-Mbappe for me work better on paper. But of course, the player himself wants to leave.

This is a very interesting situation for PSG. After all the media attention of signing Messi, they are now faced with the situation of losing the present and future WC star, relegating them back to second tier football club.

You have to admire Madrid in how ruthless they are in these things.

Surpringly, this will make PSG net spend in the green this summer by a significant margin.

PSG don't need to sell, but it will be a fantastic business if they do. I will feel bad for Pochettino though, If he doesn't get a replacement. Messi was bought to play alongside Mbappe and if that doesn't happen, their attack will not be as formidable.

Ahah nice taunt, but i'm pretty sure we can shoot for a Ligue 1 podium at at least 1 draw in the CL with a team made of players like Navas/Donnarumma, Marquinhos, Hakimi, Verratti, Wijnaldum, Messi, Neymar, Di maria, Ramos, Icardi and 150M+ to spend.

It's not a taunt it's the impression many people will have. And you know full well Messi and probably Ramos did not want to leave their clubs but had no choice (ironically enough, one of them was making room in wages for a PSG player  ) .

The best young player in the World, and French no less, wanting out is a poor look for them.

Yeah, what's a manager supposed to do with an attack of Icardi, Messi, Neymar. Needs at least a Haaland or Kane to compete.

And they rejected this too
Shouldn't be so surprising. I think psg would rather loose Mbappe on a free and see Messi, neymar and mbappe play together. There is really no replacement for Mbappe unless they sign pogba or even haaland. Even, Ronaldo won't be an adequate replacement. So psg are in the right to ask for 200m

Their attack is still good, but loosing Mbappe makes it no longer the best in Europe. It will just make it the same as other top club that consistentlycompete at a high level. Pochettino would rather have Mbappe than not have him.
