Kylian Mbappe signs new contract at PSG until 2025 | LaLiga will file a complaint

True but the psychological aspect comes and goes, there was also games when Real Madrid looked helpless in the past few years. Against Chelsea last year or City the year before, they looked like they were never in a position to win. Against Ajax, they got eviscerated at home by youngsters. Nobody knows how it's going to go next season when some of the younger players become starters.
I agree. But it comes more than it goes for certain clubs, Real Madrid being one of them, and PSG being a counter example from what i can tell. The CL is the most difficult trophy to win in club football and it is no coincidence that Real Madrid have made so many finals in their history and in the past decade.

It may be more constructive to learn and assess WHY certain clubs have success and other ones have failures, rather than just bleat about luck.

You'll never improve if you aren't introspective and seek answers internally rather than solely focusing on extraneous factors. Perhaps it is PSG's arrogance that is holding them back.

Agreed, we have very rarely overturned a game. The only exemple I have in mind in recent history being against Atalanta in the final 8 (even we have a couple of games when we showed decent mental ressources). To me, Benzema carried this team both with his leadership and insane effectiveness. We'll see how it evolves with players like him or Modric age (even if Benzema seems to have the legs for at least 2 good extra years).

This season is a bit different, they rely on resilience of course, which is a very important quality, but on the other hand we can't deny that the coin had a tendancy to fall on the right side each time it was flipped, starting with the fact that they played 3 second legs in a row at home. There's a million way this could have gone in a different direction : Messi missing his PK, the ref not blowing the foul on Donnarumma, Benzema scoring at pretty much any chance he gets in any position etc.

If you want to start somewhere, it would be good to remember that Real Madrid - Benfica should have been the tie of the last 16, and not Real Madrid - PSG, which was probably the most difficult one for such a round. The draw got repeated entirely even though it was completely unnecessary and unfair. And I don't think PSG, Chelsea, City, Liverpool can be considered a particularly lucky run either.

In fairness that's an extremely tough run. Godspeed in the finals.

He isn't talking about that particular tie.

I mean people can think whatever they want but going for results in the recent season is something difficult to justify with a straight face.
Of course Madrid are the bigger better club but not the better team this season than PSG.

Even PSG’s last match they were frightening. It’s was certainly a higher level than Madrid have played for a long time.

Put it this way not many picked Madrid as one of the favourites for this years champions league at the start.

PSG have major advantages in playing staff over anyone bar Man City who seem to have two world class players for almost every position in the team. Some Madrid fans seem to think they have a team on par. They don’t it’s that simple.

Zero sympathy for Real but clubs offering such contracts is a farce given their source of funds

Well, the business side game is as dirty and opaque as any other industry. FIFA’s regulatory role is as shady as it comes. What is more worrying is that PSG seemed to have ceded managerial control over to a single player. If he doesn’t like the manager or the sporting director, they are both gone. Am sure there are many more powers expressly or impliedly granted it him which have not been reported.

Yes, very true. Apart from the right players, what do you think PSG is missing that is intangible compared to a club like Liverpool or Real Madrid (or United of a decade ago)? Why do you think they fall short in the CL?

The complaint is an embarrassment of course, but the offer of PSG is disgusting. This has nothing to do with sports anymore. PSG simply forced Mbappe to stay with such inhumane numbers. The rumours are not everything, I'm sure of it. I dont want to know how much he is getting for some shady sponsor deals in Qatar.... While Real and Barca built their status for over a 100 years, oil states decided to get some new toys to whitewash their worldwide reputation and they have no problem whatsoever in financing this whole act, because fifa/uefa are as corrupt as the mafia.

Look who they were playing against and against 10 men.

PSG finished the league campaign with 86 points, same amount as Real Madrid. PSG had a better goal difference, by 5 goals, which is a trivial amount. And then of course RM finished ahead of them in the CL. So by the main criteria people on Redcafe use for "consistency" they might as well be the same team.

I don't know why you think PSG have a 'major advantage in playing staff.'

Real Madrid have a better goalkeeper, equal or better defenders, and better midfielders. PSG have better players in attack.

Real Madrid also have a better manager.

PSG squad has amazing attack but the rest is comparable to other squads from other clubs.

This isn't to say RM's squad is perfect. Far from it.

But last year, RM had a squad where the best players were old, there were almost no players in their prime age, and the young players didn't seem to be good enough.

One year later we have a squad where the best players are old(er!), there are almost no players in their prime age, but the young players are good enough.

Trust the process, or something.

Even the advanced numbers are remarkably similar...

Because they have Mbappé. Literally, that's the only edge PSG have on us. Better wingbacks, sure, but when it comes right down to it, Mbappé is what makes them a great team. Without him they would have been the level of Spurs

Agreed, but that's not due to the players' level, it's the coaching of the team. You just have to look at the advanced statistics drop off as soon as Pochettino took over, I'm not talking over time they went down, no...they literally dropped off a cliff as soon as he came in and never really recovered until the end of the next season when Ligue 1 was basically won and they lost out on everything else.

As it stands, Real Madrid have punched over their weight in the CL, which is what is making this current CL campaign probably one of, if not the wildest in Real Madrid's grand history, maybe you disagree with that.

However, I do think PSG have a better potential as a team right now than Real Madrid. Madrid has a clearly better midfield, and a more experienced GK on the big stage but I'm not convinced that Donnarumma won't be just as good in the near future, and above all they have a winning culture in the CL which PSG has yet to have. They seemed on the right track the past two years making a final and semi-final appearance, but this year they went back to their bottling ways. All it takes is to get over the hump once, and they're not giving up on that especially with Mbappe renewing, it's going to be a big boost to the team to know he's decided to stick with them and go for it again.

With Mbappe's situation cleared up and not hanging a big cloud over the team all season, hopefully a good hire to manage the team, and Messi with his first season in France behind him, we see a better PSG because when it's on song, it's a beautiful thing to see, but it's been so, so rare under Poch.

no idea what Li Liga think they can complain about. Players decides not to play there: boo hoo. Given this stance can we sue every player who signed for someone else when we were interested? Utter drivel - they just think they are better than anyone else and should be allowed to do what they want (meanwhile Madrid will probably forget to start on Saturday night)

Quite sure that mammoth money might've had something to do with it, nothing wrong with that though.

Nobody with any sense would turn down that sort of multi-generational wealth at that age.

Potentially bringing France their first CL title in ages and his hometowns first would mean quite a bit in comparison to Real winning another

Messi was levels above anyone in a Madrid shirt and so was Mbappe still if you watched the game. Madrid have never been able to contain Messi though so nothing changed there.
Messi was terrible in the first leg and missed a penalty. They contained him more than well enough, he wasn’t causing any real problems. It was Mbappe who was the danger man and irrepressible. Also, Messi has like 0 goals and 0 assists in his last 6 games against Real Madrid (ironically his last goal was when Ronaldo still played for them). with most of those games being losses. Messi’s days of being any sort of danger to them ended years ago.

Anybody check on neymar?

The biggest cnut ego in all of football. Strangely silent. Plotting his next move I suppose? With his whoremongerer of a father.

Don't forget it was a big brother/little brother dynamic. Now mbappe has clearly been given the keys to the club and then some.

Can't wait to see the drama.

If they reached a verbal agreement and it was already all decided they could do many things about that situation

Love to see all the "insane amount of money!!!" in here. And yet, still nothing to back that up. All the reports from France so far mention a PSG offer superior to Real's but not by an unreasonable amount.

Neymar knows is not as good as he used to be, he was already behind MBappé last season, made several comments about the fact that he was glad he could help him score, stop creating drama where there's none. There's litterally zero ego issue with Neymar but the fact he can't stay fit because of constent injuries.

Neymar is already in retirement mode. Gets paid for doing the bare minimum, doubt he cares at this point in his career. I have a feeling Messi is in a similar position.

Madrid can still have Rashford, and rekindle that Ronaldo vs Messi's rivalry with PSG.

Wait. you don’t think what he’s getting is an insane amount of money?!

Good start, he is about to appoint Luis Campos as DOF, he is working on fixing the academy.

It's not about getting insane amounts of money, he obviously gets a lot, it's about knowing the difference between Real's offer and PSG's. And so far, outside of Tebas's rant, there's no consistent information proving that PSG offered far more than Real.

Does that matter? He’s on an obscene amount of money.

£100m signing on fee, £1m per week, key club decisions etc.

He’s the highest paid player in the world at what 23?

Ridiculous figures.

Is this wishful thinking or trying to put him in a good light as a PSG fan? I can understand if you are a PSG fan and want to go: “owh no he loves the club/city/challenge”

All of which could be true, but come on now.

The mother said a few days ago the offers were identical, the president said today the offer from RM was higher. Give it a year and PSGworld will try to gaslight us all into thinking he's playing for free and that Florentino offered him the Spanish throne.

What do you think about your new president demanding a focus on french players?
