Kylian Mbappe | Merci.

If by ruined, you mean making it easier for bullshit takes to be called out and challenged, then sure
By ruined, I mean it has made the game more about numbers rather than the allround performance. In today's game, peak Ronaldinho would be just a good player rather than the bpitw he was considered in 2003/4/5. On the other hand, Gerd Muller would be considered a "goat" candidate.

The latter was sort of true in the 70s, the former is simply not true. Ronaldinho having a season like 05/06 now would easily be in BPITW conversation, just as De Bruyne is

Reducing Gerd Müller to his goals would be just as wrong. He was so much more than a poacher.

Where did I say he was just a poacher?
Other aspects of his game may have been decent but, goalscoring was by far his biggest contribution.

If he played in today's stats obsessed game, no doubt he would be considered closer to being a goat candidate than he ever was in the 70's.

Still don't buy it.

Why does it feel like Marca etc have already gone ahead and said this 2-3 times before?

Let me know when he's on the Bernabeu pitch doing keepie uppies.

Not really but the thing is Gerd Muller won a Ballon D'Or and was widely considered one of the very best players in the world. He was a contemporary of Pelé, Cruyff and Beckenbauer, plus honestly our understanding of football back then was still more tied to aestethics than it is today

It really isn’t just about numbers but the data when used correctly can help debunk poor “eye tests”.

As others have said this hyperbolic view is a bit pointless. Which player do you think is being underestimated based on their numbers vs all round performance?

I honestly believe that at his future club, Mbapp will be more of a normal player than the "monster" he's been enabled to become at Paris

That could happen. It might be because he's at a club where he can't win major titles so all he has to do is find ways to get more money.

Perez has been obsessed for ages. Which I would understand if this was prime CR7 but the amount of effort has been dumb. We are literally fielding Joselu or playing without a striker due to this saga.

Lucked out with Jude turning into prime Di Stefano and being important all over the pitch.

I think he's looking for him to replace Ronaldo as the superstar rather than looking for him to fill an actual hole on the team. That would be typical Perez

Yeah. Open up wikipedia, look at his goals scored over the past 3-4 seasons
Ah you mean the last two seasons where they’ve struggled to look like a threat going forward and were eliminated both times in the round of 16 in Europe? Or barely getting out of the group stages this year on top of that? Where is this best 9 in the world level being showcased?
How much credit do you give goals v Nantes? He only scored two more league goals than Lacazette last season!
I get you’re a fan and you’re excited but that’s a ridiculous statement, he still has it all to prove as a 9 as it’s a stupidly specialised position at the elite level in modern football

I know exactly what you mean with your statement. But that is not popular in these particular side of the CAF anymore. Lots of stats guys around here.

In any case, with Mbappé, both the stats and the eyeball, performance in big games test checks out. Whether it was Madrid, Bayern or one of the PL giants, he just needs to get out of PSG so he's not so anonymous week in and week out. Ligue 1 just doesn't get enough viewers anywhere.

Seeing as I didn’t get a response from the other guy who exactly do you think is being underrated based on stats?

No I meant last 3-4 seasons, since they phased out Icardi. And before then he was often used as the lone pure striker. And they really haven't struggled to look like a threat going forward, at any point, except in the games he missed

He got them out of the group. PSG struggled because of poor finishing, by everyone other than him

The credit due any goal. It's a goal. Exclude penalties and he scored 5 more goals in fewer minutes. And Lacazette scored a lot last season. The other important stat here how well his goalscoring holds up in CL

Ultimately if he can play well with Barcola then he can play with Vini. And he's the best, most decisive player in the world regardless of where you put him on the pitch

Huge signing. Mbappe and Bellingham in one side is very FIFA ultimate team.

 imagine Haaland goes too. They would have the three players tipped for BPITW.

Quite the insane squad they're building, signing up literally all of the best young talents in the world at their position.

They have Endrick coming in in the near future as well, they are truly too big to fail

Must be nice

He might be the next Robinho

The way they continue to build world class teams is incredible. High standards we can only dream of

Looking at the heat maps, it is clear that Mbappe really plays the same position as Vinicius, even if CF on paper.

So, we aren't signing a player for a new position, merely an upgrade on LF position.

This is a commercial signing first and foremost.
