Kostas Manolas

Thats the last few seasons, all seem pretty reliable now. No lets start with Manolas who has problems starting for Roma right now. Why Manolas and not Rudiger?

Jones/Rojo has been a good partnership for what, 2 months? Let's give it a bit more time before we establish them as 'reliable', both on the performance and injury front, especially when both have a history of picking up knocks and poor performances and/or defensive-mistakes. Smalling was the best CB in the PL according to a lot of United fans last year and now he's arguably 4th choice for a fair few, whilst Jones/Rojo were shit and should've been sold.

Opinions change quick, I'm just saying as a whole United's CB quartet need to establish themselves as consistent performers for a bit longer before we can label them 'reliable' and it an area not in need of strengthening.

I'm not saying Manolas is the right player to get in by the way, but I do feel at the moment there's still a market for a established world-class, experienced, consistent CB. Maybe in due course that will change, but for now the likes of Smalling, Bailly, Jones and Rojo still have a lot to prove before that notion is completed dispelled.

Yes exactly, lets give them more time. No more CBs needed.

He has played more games than Rüdiger this season and he doesn't have problems to start for Roma. If the rumours are true that he wants to leave, that's probably the reason why he was left out at the weekend. That's one game. If you bothered to actually watch Roma, like you claim you do, you didn't have to ask why Manolas and not Rüdiger. The former is quite clearly the better player.

Never really seen Manolas play but I think smalling has had his peak at united he's a decent player but not what we hoped. Rojo on the other hand has looked strangely good this season, I like his no nonsense approach to defending, ok he might not be the best on the ball but hes better than smalling and doesn't make many howlers.
Rojo deserves to stay at the club based on his performances this season. But preferably as a back-up in my opinion.

Jones and Rojo have done a job. All credit to them. Nice to see Jones fit and healthy too.

Neither should be starting as first choice. Neither are good enough to be starters game in and game out for a side with ambitions the size we have.

Useful players to have no doubt...But would u want them ahead of Bailly and another class central defender in the summer? Not a chance.

When you look at centre defensive partnerships at MUFC down the years in our most successful periods..They just don't measure up in quality. Simple as.

Why do these players do what I would call a sideways move all the time?

Oh who knows...in this instance tho, he got used to Italy and his native Greece is just around the corner. Also Inter is a big a famous clubs and in a process of great remodeling.

None of this is definite tho, plenty of time till July to sway his mind.

But aren't Roma a better team at the moment? They're a huge Italian club too surely.

We could do with hm simply because I don't think Smalling is good enough to be a part of a typical Mourinho defence. But there are other areas we need to strengthen first.

They're good ATM but they're far from a huge club, especially compared to Inter. Roma needs to sell in order not to have problems with FFP...that's the sole reason for this sale.

I think that's the wages he has supposedly agreed over 5 years. Roma apparently want €44m for him.

Well that makes sense! Still those are pretty modest wages when he could probably get £130k a week from a prem team!

Who's this mysterious world class CB that's available?
