Klopp to leave Liverpool at the end of the season

I haven't minded Klopp so much generally tbh, but then maybe I haven't been paying proper attention, because he really annoyed me just before this match. Something about Salah enjoying OT and having not watched many of our games, just really disrespectful and arrogant, so I loved he was so devastated at the end.

He did think they just had to show up, and that's on him.

You haven't missed much to be honest, he has had some comically bad takes on things when his team loses (weather in any guise, United having too many injuries, how balls are made combined with how Willian strikes them...that's genuinely one). but they've had a good few years so mostly just toothy smiles and the media fretting over who invented football between him and Pep. No matter what he says, he must be raging about City and the titles they have cheated to get ahead of him, if Pool drop out of the title race I think we'll see an epic meltdown, even more so if Arsenal stay the course and win it.

Yeah in the 2008 summer window apparently. That alienated Alonso if rumours are to be believed. He had a really good 08/09 then asked to leave.

Close to signing for Arsenal at 1 point if I remember right, Arsenal wouldn’t reach Liverpools asking price over a few million. Yet another time where ‘pushing the boat out’ could have changed our fortune.

Keep going, I'm close...
Thought you'd be running on empty after yesterday.

Yeah you guys like to be a pound or two away from what we want.

I’m glad we did our little bit to ruin his final season. Taking points off them in the league would be terrific. Hopefully he leaves empty handed. A EL final loss (England needs the coefficient points). Third in the league. And he signs off with a carabao cup. Make it happen ye football gods.

Such a shame I missed it all and now he's going ;). Come on Arsenal!

Finally, someone said it!

It's a bit of a silly argument really.

When Klopp first took over Liverpool they were struggling to even qualify for the Champions League, let alone win it and win the league. He got them in to it in his first full season and they qualified every year after until last season.

He's also been competing against the biggest cheats in football history.

Just listening to Danny Murphy on TalkSPORT…..the shite talked about how far off Utd are from Liverpool and the years it will take us to catch up is really going to come back to haunt them….the delusion that there isn’t going to be a big drop off at Liverpool post Klopp is amazing…..players will leave and whoever the new manager that comes in will have difficultly living up to Klopp enigma…..

All while Sir Jim is shuffling his pack and getting our house in order…..really looking forward to hearing the Liverpool love in next season when it’s not ‘like under Klopp’….

So

1 PL, 1 CL, 1 FA, 2 EFL
and
7 top 4 trophies

then

As much as I want to slate Klopp - Mills is a moron with the logic here. Mills is ex 115 fc as well so it’s not unexpected.

I'm sure when Man City get stripped of all titles he'll be just as quick to slate Guardiola for failing to win anything in nine years.

i heard a rumour, that i’m not sure is true, but sounds like it could be. when he goes, does he take the trophies he won with him, leaving liverpool actually trophyless from the past 9 years?

Football fans can't have it both ways though.

Most modern Football fans keep complaining about their clubs not having vision, long term thinking, connection with fans and want a sustainable, long term project with youth development, retain values and culture of the club(the United Way, Barca DNA, etc) alongside good results obviously. This is what some fans refer to as "the right way". This is the Klopp model. People here are sneering at that.

On the other hand, there's this model where managers come in and focus on the present. These managers want funds and want to win as many trophies as possible in the next couple of years. Youth development and having a long term strategy is seen as secondary by these managers but it gets the club almost guaranteed silverware in the short term. This is the Mourinho model. Most fans on this forum despise that. Clearly, they dislike what the likes of Mourinho and Conte do.

What Pep's doing at City needs state ownership and unlimited funds in every transfer window along with brilliant Football operations and management from the board. The squad needs to be significantly better than your rivals and the manager requires 100% backing on all fronts. This kind of a model isn't possible/sustainable at most clubs.

This post is not a dig at any particular fanbase but a general opinion on modern Football fanbases. If you're a fan of a legacy club/big club(not oil club) in 2024, which model would you prefer?

The bloke interviewing him is really helping him by not having a clue what he’s talking about and backtracking a lot.

Mills also never said Klopp “isn’t any good” - just that he’s not in Guardiola’s class.

I disagree with both in a way. Considering what Klopp has been up against, I’d say he’s done as well as he could realistically do at Liverpool. He also exceeded expectations at Dortmund. But he can’t be considered in the conversation of the best PL manager of all time

Agreed, there's some cognitive dissonance with criticising Klopp's performances and believing City are cheats. People believe both yet if you acknowledge that City cheated then Klopp would have won more titles.

there's no denying that Klopp is a top 5 manager but if you are talking strictly money spent and results in winning trophies, his record at liverpool is fecking shitte. Yes, i get it that is during the Pep era at City where they have cheated to the point of comedy and gotten away with it but no europa, only one FA, 2 micky mouse cups and just one league title.

Never thought I’d say this but Danny Mills has just gone up in my estimation.
He was a pillock talking about Mainoo though.

Back to Klopp - shame the game Sunday wasn't his last visit to Old Trafford. Would've been a beautiful send off.

It's not even as complex this. It's just idiotic to not apply context to things. If you just look at stats you would think Haaland is a better footballer than Henry as he scored more goals in a season, or Hamsik was a better player than Maradona as he beat his Napoli goal record.

People dress football up a lot these days, there's a lot of buzzwords and fans are a lot more into tactics and knowing more about the game but the reality hasn't changed from the day the sport turned professional. The team who spends the most tends to win/come close to winning the league.

The narrative around Klopp is that he'd have swept up if not for City's cheating, when that simply isn't the case. Klopp would have won as many extra titles as United in that time.

Literally. Due to the inhalers, he always has his 1 season on followed by 1 season off. During those off seasons, we've had Mourinho, Ole and Ten Hag all finish above him. And during most of the seasons where they're the 'quadruple hunting mentality monsters', they still finish runners up.

Ed Woodward likes this!!!
Kind of proves the point. Even with terrible owners sucking money out and letting everything stagnate + Woodward in charge, we've supposedly been terrible for over a decade and yet we've almost always been in the CL/EL and won the EL, FA cup, League cup (x2) in that period. Who has won more? City (spent more than us), Chelsea (spent more than us), Pool, I'd argue Leicester with 1 PL and 1 FA cup are better but they spent themselves into relegation, but really who else? Arsenal have won 4 FA cups but nothing else, is that better or worse than EL, FA and 2 League cups. Let's just say Arsenal have been more successful, in our awful period we've been the 5th best club being the 3rd biggest spenders.

Didn’t they miss out on the title by a fine margin the season before?

Klopp has been a good manager for Liverpool.

But pointing out he only managed to win the league once in his time is totally valid, and in my opinion that puts him below the likes of SAF, Pep, Wenger, Mourinho.

But he is comfortably better than the likes of Mancini, Pellegrini, Ranieri etc.

If you are going to start applauding 2nd place finishes then you open the gates to a tonne of other managers who have done well and deserve praise.

I'd put Pep below that tier as well, he had state backing.
