exactly, as good as Varane is, he can't be relied on due to injuries. Whoever comes in, has to be genuinely competing to start over him even when fit. Haven't seen enough of this chap yet to make a judgement, but we don't need another squad player at centre half.

See it from a different perspective. Having 3 quality CBs will allow ETH to rotate between them and keep all 3 in form. The biggest merit from KMJ besides his qualities is that he has played LCB (Napoli, Fenerbahce) as well as RCB (Beijing, Jeonbuk, Korean national team). It doesn't matrer where you put him, he is very flexible. Even if Martinez is less injury prone than Varane, doesn't mean he is immune to injuries and KMJ would be the perfect player to cover both positions, as well as challenging for a starting spot. If he doesn't extend and keeps the release clause, we should do everything to get him. It would be the steal of the next transfer window.

I’d even add Ndicka on the free to complete a formidable 4 CBs.
Martinez, Varane, Kim and Ndicka.
Sell the rest.

Yeah, if we're only going to sign one CB and just sell Maguire and keep Lindelof for another year to minimize change (since I assume we're also adding a #9, a CM, a RB and possibly a GK and who knows maybe Ten Hag will sign Gapko or another player he wants badly) then it really does need to be a right-footer who has played on the left before.

Was really impressed with him in South Korea's first game.

i’d happily sell lindelof/jones/maguire and get this guy in.

Are we really going after him, if so that would be great as he's a warrior that can actually play football.

Agree with this, we need to be more proactive and take inexpensive steps to raise the quality of our squad because the gap in performances when we lose a couple of first choice players is too wide.

According to Fabrizio Romano via a YouTube fan channel, the player has a release clause in his contract of €40m to €45m which is active for only two weeks in July 2023. Napoli are trying to change that by offering him a new deal.

With our management and their crazy boss, there's no way we're completing this deal in 2 weeks

With new owners it shouldn't be a problem. That's assuming we go for him and not someone else.

You will see under a new ownership, things will be a lot more fluid.

What if the Glazers take their time to sell the club?

Are the rest of Korea's defenders just terrible, or is he perhaps getting a bit over-hyped? Because Korea's defending for most of this tournament hasn't really been that good.

I've not seen much of him aside from this tournament.

At least today, the issue is with the full backs mostly.

was injured and missed Portugal game. still not in the best condition and SK fullbacks and the other CB are pretty soft, nothing he can do alone

Third time I’ve seen him live now and I think he’s really good.. not a lot he could do to stop Brazil today there’s just too much space in front of him

Can’t really judge him on the shambles around him today

Just remember Koulibaly used to look a beast for Napoli in Serie A too.

Koulibaly has been declining for a couple of seasons. He had a big lift after the AFCON but his form has been inconsistent.

Martinez, Varane and Kim would be an incredible group of centrebacks. Pure luxury.

If we could get him in the summer, move on Tuanzebe, Jones and Maguire it gives us four senior CBs going into next season, frees up a lot of wages and we still have Casemiro and Shaw as emergency centre halfs if/when needed. Makes sense overall but for right now a Striker is the priority over a centre half.

Not happening. We are the worst club getting rid of deadwood.

Jones and Tuanzebe are definitely leaving because their contracts are expiring. I think Maguire will too because he doesn't seem like the type of character who will just stay collecting his wages without playing much.

This would make a lot of sense, at least in theory. Not going to pretend to have him well scouted but we certainly need competition in this position and 50 million euros is alright these days.

Maguire is not fancied, probably heading out and Lindelof is not very good. We're one injury to our starting centre backs away from having to make serious concessions within the managers style of play because Lindelof and Maguire just aren't up to it over a long period of time. You can't totally rely on Varane. CB needs a bit of retooling this summer with people leaving on frees and sales so there are at least 3 ideal options.
