Music Kendrick Lamar

The voice didn't bother me at all, it's one verse and he is clearly meant to be distraught.

It adds the whole atmopshere of the track for me, along with the bottle sounds. Really does sound like he's on the verge of a breakdown.

I'd doubt it very much. I'm sure people who enjoy it love it, but not enough will to make the sort of impact you're talking about.

Oh it will IMO. Only time will prove me right
I get the lack of singles will hurt radio play, but this album is not being talked about at all on hiphop radio.

feck radio is all I say. Its not made for radio. The album sold 325k in its first week and is projected to hit Gold status by second week of sales.

I'm sure he could have achieved the same message by just using his normal voice and expressing that through his lyrics. But then I suppose others feel it enhances the track/message.

Nice edit.

I agree, it's all subjective.

I just found the voice grated enough to remove my attention from what's being said in order to focus on how annoying the voice was. Lots of music manages to convey political and emotional messages without additional voice acting.

My main point was that I could see the point of the controversial reviewer when he criticised the voices.

Yep, agree entirely.

Albums I personally consider classics. There's more as well in my personal list, lesser known underground cats

@Hectic my favorite Wu album is Wu tang forever, not everyones personal choice. I also love the solo joints like Only built for cuban linx, Ironman and Tical

Ok well if its's in order your massively overating Kanye's albums.

They are classics and widely considered so (not that it matters). What Kanye West albums have you listened to? I consider No way out a classic as well and I dont think a single person will agree with that.

Nice, for me it's Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers, Only Built 4, Liquid Swords & Iron Man. Obviously not them, but rza's and wu affiliates production in particular and vibe of "Gravediggaz - The Pick, the Sickle and the Shovel" was amazing.

Pretty good list, I agree with most - I hope it's not in order though.

Well no way out has alot of great tracks on it and strong singles.

I've listened to all of Kanye's albums and enjoyed most of them for what they are. With the obvisous exception of Yeezus and 808's. You listed the college dropout as number 9 on your list. That is an album with tracks like The New Workout Plan and bumble gum rap tracks like We Dont Care and Spaceship(both I love btw).

The list is not in order. The new workout plan is not one of my favorites but the rest of the album was more than good enough for me.

Triumph is my favorite Wu tang track period. Did you ever get into Killah priest? Canibus (not Wu tang I know)?

Yep, Killah Priest not as much but still has some good tapes, Canibus much more but a long time ago to be honest.

Why don't you post in your hip hop thread anymore Hectic?

Really enjoy this album. Listened to it about 9 or 10 times now and with the exception of U and maybe Hood Politics I like every track. In Hood Politics I just hate the 'boom boom' bit, puts me right off.

As a body of work it's excellent but when I listen to each song individually I think I'll have to cut off all the extra bits like the poem he keeps reciting. Doesn't work on its own, and once you've heard the Tupac bit at the end of Mortal Man it's not something I really want to go through each time I play the song.

Favourite song on it keeps changing. It's currently Wesley's Theory. Also didn't really like These Walls when I first heard it as I thought it was too pop sounding but it's grown on me.

Snoop's bit on Institutionalized is also quality.

, I don't cross you that often on here anymore, how's life?

Tough, but what's it worth if it isn't right. I just had a look at the thread now...I can't believe it's still being updated and people are actually following the rules from the OP that I thought were destined to be totally ignored forever!

Success!

He's saying 'boo boo' in a Yogi Bear cadence which is the strangest and most fire thing I've heard in a rap song this year IDK why I like it.

*daps* Nice to hear from you man. And I'm as shocked as you about the thread rules actually being adhered to now, Money May is doing a fine job.

It's a legendary thread. I still listen to albums you put on it years ago.

That beginning 30 seconds of hood politics is a real quality beat, it's absolutely wasted in there, it should have been a full track not some dumb interlude. I didn't like this album much at first but now I'm loving it, apart from all the poetry, I can't wait until I get paid so I can buy this album properly and edit all that shit out.

@Big red123 Not a bad list but im surprised about a few selections like Kiss of death and the Great Depression. I own those albums too. Flesh of my flesh, and then there was X and Grand champ were all better than the depression IMO which was an ok album but not vintage DMX. I have it 6/10.

Kiss of Death was ok but overall it disappointed me. I think some of the radio friendly tracks like the Pharrell produced 'Knock yourself out' and the Mariah Carey featured 'u make me wanna' were too forced. 'Why' was great tho, but i'd say Styles' 'Gangsta and a gentleman' was closer to a classic and more honest. I'd also say Black Robs 'Life story' is better than those two albums. The truth was a solid album but are you sure you're not overlooking anyone else?

EDIT: You favs not what you consider classics. Fair play

DMX's "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot" is a flawless album, never really got into the others, but that there is a classic for me.

Also no love for Mobb Deep?!

I'm sorry, I know it's the wrong thread for it but I'm sure Kendrick would agree it's an amazing album start to finish:

The Infamous is a flawless album man, I don't do rankings but that's up there for me.

It's Kendrick's favourite album I believe, I quote:

Thank God for the album I idolized
It's Dark and plus hell is hot, that's the start of this crazy ride

Yep, same here, way too hard to keep a track of all and it's always changing. I'd have Juvenile Hell, The Infamous & Hell on Earth there, amazing progression through the albums production wise.

Havoc is a seriously underrated producer and I think Q Tip had a lot of influence on The Infamous IIRC, when I think of the New York sound in terms of hip hop I always think of Mobb Deep ahead of Nas, Wu Tang etc. So cold.

He really was, massively so in fact. Yeah he did and I'm sure Havoc gleaned a lot from Q Tip's experience when making The Infamous. Same here, Cormega and AZ were criminally underrated too.
