Keir Starmer Labour Leader

I think Keir is doing a great job of looking like the grown up in the room.

Always wary when people quote part of a sentence/statement. Don't know the details ... someone suggesting the timing/context and additional part of the statement quoted, may give a different view.

(No idea if it does or doesn't, getting very analytical now).

He may be right, may be taking out of context. Personally, I think there are bigger/easier things to go at Boris for.

Actually Starmer was quoting a different part of the document:

"During normal day-to-day activities facemasks do not provide protection from respiratory viruses, such as COVID-19 and do not need to be worn by staff in any of these settings. Facemasks are only recommended to be worn by infected individuals when advised by a healthcare worker, to reduce the risk of transmitting the infection to other people. It remains very unlikely that people receiving care in a care home or the community will become infected."

Guido/the Government didn't read the whole document, which is a basic task for a "journalist"/government.

If you’re using Guido Fawkes as a source, you’ve already lost the argument.

It's like a letter to basically ask to stop bulling him in PMQs

My thoughts as well.
Is Bumbling Boris getting rattled by the laser guided precision attacks from Starmer.

Seems like it.
Can't wait for Boris to start with Fake News.

No idea who he is, don't follow social media posters.

As I said, I think there are easier targets to go for and ones that maybe grab the public's attention more (i.e. PPE which has had lots of coverage in the media). It might be being a bit populist but nothing wrong with that? As a lot of elections around the world recently have shown, public perception (right or wrong) can give you more votes than hard facts.

Though there's a long way to an election

Ironically, these cretins drawing attention to this will be good for Starmer. Gives him a chance to officially disprove it, when otherwise he’d want to ignore it. The amount of tweets from bots saying this stuff is ridiculous, in addition to references to Saville and Worboys, the fact two Tory MPs have fallen for it speaks to how dangerous this crap can be.

You are falling into the trap of thinking that the truth still matters. It doesnt matter if Starmer is right or wrong, or if he can/cant disprove anything. All that matters is the conflicting messages coming out and being seen by the public at large - causing doubt and uncertainty. Its sad, but thats where we are in modern western politics.

Not at all. I’m fully aware the truth is largely irrelevant. These smears will still harm Starmer. But these smears were already widespread, hence two Tory MPs commenting on it. It’s impossible to see a tweet about Starmer without some smear in the replies. Giving him an opportunity to officially disprove it is better than leaving it unchallenged, in my view. It will still reach a few people who’d have seen the claim and accepted it otherwise. Maybe I’m being naive though.

All the tories are running scared, they're on borrowed time now in government. Trying every trick in the book to smear Labour.

Surely Keir Starmer can now take those 3 MP's to court for defamation of character? The position they hold should make it doubly important for them to be honest in what information they share.

Remember when the Health Secretary, you know the guy who has been on TV almost daily during this current crisis, made up a lie about one of his advisers being punched outside a hospital by a Labour activist and the only interest the media showed in the story was going along with the lie in the first place?

Yeah.

I didn’t vote in the Labour leadership election as I felt torn, however, I’ve been happy enough with what I have seen from Starmer so far.

I think the more far left-leaning Labour members might have to accept that 50% of this country don’t want a “revolution” and any change for the better will have to be managed slowly, step-by-step.

I get the dilemma I really do. There’s genuine room for debate about whether it’s better to provide an opposition which is more likely to push the Government outside of its comfort zone ideologically or more likely to win an election and implement incremental changes. I think that’s an incredibly tough question to answer definitively.

Is this a common sentiment? (I’m not British) are they performing poorly in the polls? Would be great to hear.

I think that'll be seen once this pandemic is over. People have a tendency to rally round the flag and back government generally in times of crisis.
