Sky reports he is our first choice to replace DDG . Thoughts?

He's ok but a monumental downgrade on DDG. We should be aspiring to a far better number 1 keeper.

feck that shit. Just put young Perreira in the bloody net for fecks sakes if we don't plan on spending money on a world class keeper.

He's bang average. Forget who his dad is and I suspect not many would want him. Buying players nowhere near good enough for us is what has us in the mess we're currently in.

I would be ok with him & Romero competing for our number 1. We need to focus on other positions, since we need top class players in probably defence, midfield, & attack. So I'd rather see us buying one of those first than spending 60 million on Oblak. If money is not an issue at all, then sure buy Oblak.

Anyway, I believe DDG will stay, especially if we get CL.

Sell DDG for £60m and use that money to buy Oblak. Not sure how money can be a issue there.

This is why we need a DOF - so we don't go after shit transfer targets. Sick of some of the footballing decisions we're making. If Jose plans on strengthening the defence and is not bothered about the keeper, then give our young Perreira a chance instead of spending unnecessary money on Kasper.

If we lose De Gea we can't piss about like we did post-Schmeichel and we need to replace him with someone top class - unfortunately his son isn't that. It's easy to say we don't need a good keeper now but say that once the new guy lets in a few howlers and the entire defence gets neryvy as fook like we were under the Bosnich/Foster/Taibi etc.. years.

Yet some still seem intent on us sighing players that aren't good enough. The mind boggles.

This is a goalkeeper that won the league with Leicester City being the number 1. He isn't that bad and is entering his prime age as a goalkeeper at 30. I would take him if he costs 15-20m

Probably pick up Morgan and Huth given they were the first choice CB's with a PL winning side.

Do not want him. Go for Oblak please, we need world class players at their respective positions and not decent ones. Schmeichel would be ok for the 2nd GK spot.

He's better than people in this thread seem to think but he's also not one of the top keepers in the world and never will be.

We could do better.

Decent keeper, not certainly not the best available. Another example of people obviously going after a player because either name or nationality (Keane being the other).

People will always be inclined to have extreme negative reactions to players like this, more so in the keeper position because of what we have in DDG.

IMO Kasper wouldn't be a bad option, prem experience, a real leader, very good as he is, who could improve yet, yes he'd not be a sexy name, or cost £60 million, but he could fit us well.

No thanks. Wouldn't be much better than going with one of our young keepers like Johnstone or Pereira.

Or, y'know, people don't want to lose a world class player and replace him with a massively inferior one. This 'sexy name' rubbish is cliched nonsense. I don't think Shaw is a 'sexy name' and we were all delighted when we signed him.

He's decent, would take him as backup 'keeper if the Romero to Inter Milan stories are true.

Would be devastating if he's meant to replace De Gea

Schmeichel, Keane, Dier, Willian

The summer of nightmares

What's wrong with that? I see 4 warriors.

No one wants to lose DDG, but personally I'd rather we didn't force him to stay this time if he does want to go.

There's certainly something in the sexy name stuff, I bet many people would be happy enough if DDG went & Donnarumma came in, and I'm sure many would rather Varane over Keane, it doesn't mean they are the better options for us. Much the same as so many people had issues with Lingard's new contract.

I'm not saying Kasper is ideal, but I'd rather him than Navas, or Hart.

I don't think there's anything at all in this 'sexy name' stuff at all. It's just become a cliche around here for people that feel certain players aren't good enough for us.

I would rather just give Romero a go than spend money on Schmeichel as I feel they're around the same level.

And when the DoF wants to buy Schmeichel?
