Kalou and Boswinga face Chelsea exit

So you're comparing 2 players that are never injured with 2 players that are constantly injured? oooookkk.

Owen/Hargreaves simply could not command a transfer fee and we had to let their contracts run down because they were never fit.

Then we're even more cruel. Kalou and Bosingwa will have no trouble finding new clubs and probably very good ones as well. Hargreaves spent the whole Summer looking for a club and ended up at City, Owen will probably have difficult time finding a PL club that will take a chance on him.

God how evil are United?

A sign that Abramovic is worried about FFP and needs to cut the wage bill? I can imagine Chelsea will be a bit more conservative when negotiating salaries from now on or it could end up biting them on the ass. With Drogba going and Torres unhappy it appears there will be wholesale changes at Chelsea this Summer

After last year, Chelsea are already ca. £70M in the red on FFP.

If they got a total of £20M, say, for Kalou, Bosingwa and Drogba, that's subtracted from their FFP losses. Very strange to let them go for nothing.

Chelsea has always been a financial mess though. How Abramovich got a rep as a smart businessman is a mystery. His fortune can only be down to cronyism.

Only sugar daddy'd clubs could just let players go like that, without first finding a buyer. Another reason to hate them.

What the feck are you talking about?

They're at the end of their contracts and are being released.

What does sugar daddy have to with it?

He's talking about this....

Cole, Drogba, Kalou, Deco, Bosingwa....probably Malouda and Ferraira next summer.

You know, sell them 6 months earlier, maybe except Deco, and you get £10-15m at least.

I'm ignoring the two they got for free in Ballack and Belletti too. I can't think of many releasing high profile players who can still offer something(might be little, but something is a worth a few quid to plenty of teams) and mostly fit to play for free in such a short span.

They wouldn't have left early because noone would've matched Chelsea's wages.

The reason why I always find it odd when people suggest City "should get rid" like it isn't a problem what so ever. There are so few buyers for these kind of players.

Funny, I thought as soon as Bosingwa stuck his big monobrow infront of Terry for the CL celebrations that he would be gone in the summer.

Why? They're bo out of contract in the Summer and it's in their interest to find a new club. Is it also outrageous that United have let Hargreaves and recently Owen go without finding them a new club? Shame on us.

Huh? No one's saying that it's cruel to the players; I don't know where the hell you've interpreted that from.

The point is most clubs cannot simply let a player's contract run down so he leaves for free. They usually pay good money for the player in a transfer fee, and wages too, and so need to recoup as much as they can of that when the player leaves the club. Hence you often see players in the last year of their contract, and who have no intention of signing a new one, moved on before it runs out so at least the club earns something.

Pogue's point is that Chelsea are so uninterested in saving money - because they'll just get more pumped in no matter what - that they can let a player leave for free without having to worry about clawing back what they can. That they'll let all these players' contracts run out is disgusting not because of some bizzare reasoning that it's cruel to the players, but because of what it represents: their bottomless funds and their utter disregard for self-sufficiency.

We've been stuck with unwanted players on huge and long contracts before (seemed like Veron was on loan from us for about 3 seasons). The club does not seem keen to make the same mistake.

Cheslea can't win in some peoples eyes here. If we signed offered Kalou and Bosingwa contracts we would get accussed of paying huge sums to squad players and if we let their contracts expire it's "disgusting".

Heres the deal though, all of those players are on way more money than any other club interested in them would be willing to pay (on top of the transfer fee), so it would make sense for the players as well to run down their contracts (getting paid obscene amounts for sitting on the bench) and then join another club, albeit for lower wages but a significant signing on bonus as the club didn't pay any transfer fee.

That covers a few of them, Ballack and Deco mostly. Not all of them, could of easily sold Kalou, Bosingwa, Cole and hell even Drogba in prior windows for a small fee sure. None of them are/were really on obscene money for their talent/age, except Ballacks 140k/150k, but they got him for a free anyway, so its a mute point with him.

The point is not just that Chelsea could have sold the mentioned players, but whether the players would be interested in moving as well.

For example lets take Drogba in the Jan transfer window-

Time left on contract - 6 months
Will any other team in the CL take him- No, too old, on very high wages, cup-tied.
Will any other non-CL or even non-PL take him - probably not, as they won't match his wages, besides he can still play a part in the CL for chelsea (which he did) on higher wages rather than take a salary cut and go elsewhere.
Does it make sense to see out his contract for him - Yes, since he can play in the CL for the remainder of his time, then go to China or Russi or the middle east for insane wages and a significant signing on bonus (no transfer fee after all) in 6 months time.

So why should he accept a transfer?

I'd say 'Arry is twitching like a motherfecker.
Why would he want either Bosingwa or Kalou? Neither player would displace their counterpart at Spurs, so they'd be squad cover at best.

I think Kalou would be a decent addition to almost all PL clubs. If he went to a bigger club it would be more of a backup signing, but I think he would do a good job if given a good run in a team.

They needed those players. Kalou and Bosingwa contributed in CL and Drogba basically won the whole thing for them. Their squad was already small, no need to make it even smaller by selling those players when realistically they could have got £5m for each and they'd never be able to replace them for that kind of money. They bought half a dozen players last Summer but not of them were ready to play straight away so they let them have one more year - Lukaku, Piazon and De Bruyne spring to mind.

I think he is going to be epic, he really does have a knack for scoring a wonder goal.

Both are shit.

Although uni brow really suprised me against Barca.

No surprise really. Very average footballers not good enough for a club like Chelsea. Gets them off their payroll which will go into funding new players. Chelsea will spend this summer, really think they'l go for a overhaul.

What is the point of Kalou? I think he is a nothing footballer. I think he literally contributes nothing as end product. He should go to Arsenal. Will be perfect for them.

Good signing for Lille.

I'd be surprised if he scored 15 goals.Yes he'll play more but ultimately I think he'll be found out for what he really is ,an average player

I always though he had potential and wouldn't have minded him at Arsenal 5 years ago, too late now but he should do OK at Lille.

So will Kalou just be a straight replace for Hazard at Lille?
