Chelsea are to announce that neither Salomon Kalou nor Jose Bosingwa will be retained by the club ahead of the new season, Press Association Sport understands.

Kalou, 26, and Bosingwa, 29, both started for the Blues in their Champions League final success against Bayern Munich at the weekend but will be omitted from the retained list submitted today, alongside Didier Drogba who has already announced he will be leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of his contract.

Ivory Coast international Kalou was signed from Feyenoord in 2006 by Jose Mourinho and has featured as a squad player for most of his stay.

Bosingwa was signed following his performances for Portugal at Euro 2008 after his then-national coach Luiz Felipe Scolari took charge of the club but Chelsea did not take up their one-year option on the full-back.

Wenger fancies Kalou, doesn't he? Both as a player and as a handsome handsome man.

Kalou doesn't do anything. Even when he's scoring he still looks like he hasn't done anything.

Getting rid of spiderman and unibrow. Roman takes his hair seriously.

I think it was Team Brian GB who said that Paolo Ferreria's greatest talent was somehow outlasting every other fullback brought in at the club.

Bear in mind, also, that Kalou and Bosingwa are being let go because their contracts are up; Ferreira's might still have a year or two left to run, so they can't just "not retain" him. Doesn't mean they won't offload him cheaply if someone makes an enquiry, however. I expect a lot more than the three players whose contracts are running down (Drogba, Bosingwa and Kalou) to leave Chelsea this summer - they're in need of a proper overhaul.

Only sugar daddy'd clubs could just let players go like that, without first finding a buyer. Another reason to hate them.

Errr... who is going to buy players whose contracts expire in last than 40 days?

Kalou's a decent player IMO, he'll be a good signing for someone.

Boswinga I wouldn't touch with a bargepole.

Bosingwa was a 'club' signing rather than a Scolari one, his transfer was announced the day after the premier league season ended in 2008 when Grant was still manager.

As I have always said he shoots when he should pass and when he passes he ought to shoot.

To think he is on £80,000 a week.

To put that into perspective, regardless about everything that was said when Arsenal were after him, Mata is on £60,000.

We were quite interested in both before they got them if I remember correctly?

Is Ferreira on a 15 year contract or some shit?

He's been a bit part player for so long now.

Somebody at Chelsea thought it was a good idea to extend his contract in 2010 by three years when he was 31 and had long since been out of the side, he has not played 30 games in five seasons now.

BTW it's not Boswinga, as in Boss Winger, it's Bosingwa.

Wild to think any CL winner would be eager to let 3 of their starters from said final walk away. You could make a pretty damned decent team from those scraps, Newcastle or Spurs would love to have Dogba, Kalou or Bosingwa.

Have a feeling Arsenal will get Kalou.

I assume that's what Pogue means Team Brian - only sugar daddy clubs can allow their players contracts to run out like this, without extending it - and the OP clearly states that Chelsea have decided NOT to take up the option of extending Bosingwa's contract.

If they were a proper run business, they'd at least extend his contract and sell him on the cheap - they'd still make a profit.

Who else do you think they'll look at letting go? Mikel?

We bought Bosingwa for £16 million or so, unless you are saying his transfer would be worth more than a new contract.

With regard to Mikel for the first time at Chelsea he is getting a fanbase, I don't think any other player has benefited as much as he in the move to 4-2-3-1 as he is no longer isolated behind the midfield and is now part of it proper. He had a good season last year I thought and over the course of this season came on a long way again, getting to the point where he had great games against Barcelona and Bayern. With that in mind we really should be holding onto him, if anyone from the midfield goes it will be Essien and/or Meireles.

A sign that Abramovic is worried about FFP and needs to cut the wage bill? I can imagine Chelsea will be a bit more conservative when negotiating salaries from now on or it could end up biting them on the ass. With Drogba going and Torres unhappy it appears there will be wholesale changes at Chelsea this Summer

On the contrary, a sign we are overhauling the squad and every indicator suggests we are out to spend big.

I'd have Boswinga at United

No risk if it's a free transfer

Aside from a few games here or there Bosingwa has been pretty poor for them.

Why? They're bo out of contract in the Summer and it's in their interest to find a new club. Is it also outrageous that United have let Hargreaves and recently Owen go without finding them a new club? Shame on us.

TBGB

Yeah, I should have been more specific, not necessarily a capital profit, but a recoupment of at least somewhere between 3-5M.

Personally I always viewed Mikel as the weak spot in your team, especially from the days you had Makele shielding your defence. But as you mentioned, he might have improved and he's certainly young enough to improve even further.

Maybe the Bayern and Barca matches aren't the best gauge of his improvement though, as your entire team (even Mata!!) were basically back defending their own penalty area. It's the matches where he's not afforded this protection from his teammates, where he often looks exposed and overrun.

But I haven't watched that much of Chelsea this season to really see how he has performed, so if you're happy with him, I'd take your word for it. Any other players you feel are surplus and need improvement on? Malouda?

So you're comparing 2 players that are never injured with 2 players that are constantly injured? oooookkk.

Owen/Hargreaves simply could not command a transfer fee and we had to let their contracts run down because they were never fit.

I was reading down this thread and thinking to myself 'nobody has suggested we get either of them, things are looking up for the transfer forum'.

Then I got to this post. For shame, Stubie, for shame.

AVB gotta be hating this. Anyone coming in going to be able to actually get some fresh ideas in properly.

Kalou is odd though, still young, both players would be solid pickups for almost anyone really, they are happy to be utility players for top clubs. Though obviously they'd also be starters for mid Europa League teams too, up to them.

Ferraira, Essien, Lampard, Mikel and Malouda all up next summer too. How many of them get renewed?

I don't know about Kalou, but there was plenty of talk about us and Bosingwa. Not sure if it was true. We've been linked with so many right backs over the years, without really signing any of them. Unless you include kids like Fabio and Rafael or players who have different primary positions such as Jones.

Owen/Hargreaves simply could not command a transfer fee and we had to let their contracts run down because they were never fit.

With Bosingwa and Kalou being out of contract, there can't be a transfer fee involved them either...

Kalou has been trying for years to be more like Liam Miller..
He does a pretty good impression of him too around 95% of the time.
