Justin Bijlow - Feyenoord keeper

Offer 1m more and get him as we did with Malacia.
It sounded like there were reservations about making Verbruggen the first choice keeper. The reports suggested we were interested in him as a second choice keeper with De Gea staying on. All of this is becoming a bit of a farce though.

60 million would be an insane amount for Onana honestly, who despite is great season, is a complete nutter and went on one of the shitest runs I've ever seen from an Ajaxkeeper after he came back from his doping suspension. Below is a bit Bijlow United's level, but who cares, it's just a goalkeeper who the feck spends a large part of their budget on that. He's young and talented and if he stays fit I'm sure he'll catch the odd ball.

Don’t post that in the Onana thread whatever you do.

Any form of criticism or concern over Onana and you’re hounded out as being insane.

Your guy seems to have a foot made of glass though?

Thanks to the utterly idiotic decision to blow £90m on Antony. I will keep mentioning it because that decision is a big reason we are so hamstrung in this window. This guy is basically Ten Hag's version of LVG's obsession with Cillessen.

He does, which is why getting Bijlow would be a bit weird. Still less weird than paying 60 million for a mercurial guy like Onana.

The fee doesn't worry me so much - it's what I'd expect to pay for a first choice keeper at Utd. He wouldn't be my preferred candidate though.

I was looking at the most expensive keepers of all time and found out that Cillessen went for 35m to Valencia after sitting 3 years on the bench at Barca. Something very fishy happened here.

Valencia paid 35 million for Cillessen?
I had no idea.

Maybe it's true that we really are struggling for the ability to spend to such an extent that we have to turn away from the likes of Onana.

However it's worth noting that if you're Manchester United and you want to stop wasting money and paying over the odds for players, then "we're so restricted in what we can spend we might have to turn to cheap alternatives instead to afford what we need elsewhere" is a useful narrative. As are public links to alternatives even while you're negotiating for a player.

Barca and Valencia swapped Cillessen and Neto, both for 35 million. It was fishy deal like the Arthur, Pjanic one.

I don’t want this guy, haven’t read anything glowing about him and to me is just another Dutch player. I do like EtH but the obsession with eredivisie players is wearing a bit thin, I don’t like Henderson but would rather keep him if we can’t get a our top choice this summer.

Very annoying. Surely Henderson being sold to Forest for around £15-20m + De Gea’s wages being shifted off the books makes up the bulk of difference in cost for Onana?

There’s absolutely no way a champions league football club as big as Manchester United are signing a 20 y.o ‘keeper who plays in the Belgian league to be first choice. Would only be a cup goalkeeper at best and that resolves nothing for us.

Are we inflating transfer fees now?

£85.8M = €100M

Antony had a good first season and he's only going to get better. We're 'hamstrung' because of our dumb owners

We overpaid but 40m or so but look, Liverpool / Arsenal / Chelsea even City I'm sure made expensive mistakes.

I dont look at the Antony deal being decisive but a series of Woodward driven failures in the seasons leading up to this.

So that's a ETH suggestion surely? No way our scouts can't some up with someone better?
If this is coming from EtH the way we are running our transfer business really is worrying

Antony should have been approximately 50% cheaper than the fee he went for. He was not even that good in Eredivisie. Gakpo and Sinisterra were better that year.

He’s not the first one either. Every time Manchester United picks up the phone, the other side will ask for double what the player is worth. Just because they know the cash is there and a precedent has been created over the past few years. Antony is not the disease, just the symptom.

It’s one thing not having the money but we don’t seem to be identifying good enough targets, this guys injury record alone make it a non starter it’s pointless.

Brighton are close to Verbruggen apparently who is only 20 but very highly rated at a £16m or so….no doubt he’ll be a full Dutch international within 12 months and a regular starter at Brighton with a value of about 50m.

Great guy as well btw. Was part of the hooligan crowd before playing for the club.

We also spent £70m on a player who was over 30 and nearly £60m on a centre back who had done well but wasnt hugely proven, wages on a free transfer who already needsd replacing, not to mention the mammoth fee a season before and wages on Sancho.

As good as some of these players hav ebeen and as much as we over spent on Antony, the truth is we havent performed a good window for a long time in terms on numbres in and out and value for money signings. People massivley over praised last summer window for me, think we got two fantastic players but what we paid for three of them was way too much regardless of performances, still think Antony will turn out to be a good signings, not fee wise but player wise.

But this hasnt been our biggest weakness, its ou riability to sell players, only Dan James has been a decent sale in several years, just look at the fees most of the other big clubs are raising from sales, that would make more difference to our budget than anything....we have a good £200m worth of sellable players this window and what have we sold so far, two players not for even £2m.
