Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

They've started well, but statistics like distance covered might prove more of a hindrance to them. Winning a league is a marathon, not a sprint.

Jurgen Klopp says he would be content to see out his managerial career with Liverpool but will retire in the next 10 years.

Klopp is 49 and has admitted he does not want to be "sitting on the bench at 60", which gives him 11 years in which to achieve his ambitions at Anfield.

Klopp told Germany's RedaktionsNetwerk: "I certainly will (return to Germany) to live, but I don't know if I will be back there as a coach yet. The day will come when I say, 'thanks, it was a pleasure'.

"It's very, very unlikely that I will still be sitting on the bench when I am 60. And, if at the end of my career I only got to coach Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool, then it will certainly have been three fantastic clubs."

Yes. Klopp is a fantastic manager, who is building a very good team at Liverpool. Not the greatest of Liverpool sides on paper, but he has each and everyone of them working for the team. Really like his philosophy.

I doubt it. Last year was their chance. This year there are at least two clubs with better managers, better squads and more money.

He'll cement them in the top 4 but the defence isn't good enough and the lack of a winter break will hurt them.

All down to the Klopp Effect. Its very very impressive, given his resources.

However I suspect lack of squad depth will catch them up quite soon, even if they don't have any euro commitments.

So what? Yeah because the score was 1-2 we wouldn't have won but how many other examples of teams scoring a late winner are there?
Crazy comments.
Not crazy, just you dont agree is all. Yous have had 4 penos in 7 games. Fair enough they dont all win you games but we all know that some you win and some you lose, when they dry up it will mean yous wont be getting the rub of the green yous are getting now. Thats all, only for that peno yous would have drawn.

You wouldn't have won at Hull either if you hadn't scored in injury time. But you did, and you won. Pointless to debate how it would've been otherwise.
I watched liverpool last night not United Hull. Youre right, without that goal we wouldnt have won, but read some threads on here, lots of United fans know we're average at the minute and for the last few years. How shocked were we when we won 4-1 last week? But thats the difference, we can look at a United game and say we're average. Yous lot will find some other alternative stats table that puts you top. Most shoelaces tied, most white boots in starting 11, most players with L in their names. Last night yous were average. Mane looked iut of sorts. Lallana came off after 22 minutes. Coutinho is a one trick pony who always tries to cut back and take a shot and Milner scores half your goals from the penalty spot.

I think this is the season with their best chance at winning the league, outside of a Chinese/Russian/Arab takeover.

City is off to a flying start, but they rely on Aguero to lead the line. When he goes down, they have to look to a still young and green Iheanacho and a solid but still unproven in the PL Nolito. I also think Bravo has a couple of howlers in him before the season is over.

I won't go into detail about United as we all know where it stands, Leicester is wobbling, Chelsea are 3-4 pieces away, Tottenham and Arsenal are Tottenham and Arsenal.

Liverpool really has to take advantage of the most wide open PL races in years NOW, as they won't get a better chance in the coming years as I expect United, City and Chelsea to pull away from the pack.

That title has now permanently been trademarked for last year!

Liverpool might now make it to the title this year, but I don't think they are going away anytime till Klopp is there. He really is one of those managers who can set up his teams to achieve results. Also, they are owned by Fenway Sports - who are a very rational owner and don't think they'll need a takeover to start spending money. If Liverpool finish in the top 4 and play the CL - they'll have more money available to spend.

I don't like the idea of Liverpool doing well at all, but i've got to accept that they are very well run and managed at this point in time.

City, United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham.

2 of these teams will be very disappointed.

He's started really well this season. Hoping they have a blip soon that puts them at least out of contention of a proper title challenge. I'd take a draw right now from the game at anfield.

As things stand they look a good bet for top 4 at least.

On the actual football, this is why Klopp was my initial choice for United manager. His "philosophy" (lol) is terrific IMO. But now that he's with the enemy hopefully it never works out fully.

These stats are before Swansea.

Given that they have played Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea away, the stats look even more impressive.
It's similar to Spurs' climbing the stat charts last season. A clear sign of the managers influence just like we saw with Pochettino. Hoping we see us also improve on all parameters big time.

The only silver lining of Pep being at City is that it is going to be very hard for Klopp to get Liverpool that elusive league title while the former is there.

Of course what I really want is Mourinho trumping them both.

I don't believe that sprints per game stat for a second

The definition of sprint ("Sprints are defined as runs in excess of 25.2 kilometres per hour and each individual sprint is logged") makes it perfectly possible. For instance, here is a stat from last season: "Matt Ritchie is the only man to make more than 100 sprints in a single game (against Watford) beating team-mate Marc Pugh (97) into second with Simon Francis (95) in third."

If Matt Richie can make 100 sprints per game, a whole team of 11(14) players can make 500 +.

Question...would Klopp have had us playing that good if he came to United instead?

He would probably need to buy more players. A lot of the players he use now were there when he arrived a year ago, for example the team yesterday:

Karius
Clyne - Matip - Lovren - Milner
Henderson

Mane - Lallana - Wijnaldum - Coutinho
Firmino

Subs:
Sturridge
<-> Lallana
Can <-> Wijnaldum
Origi <-> Firmino

So out of the 14 players used yesterday, 10 of them were there when he got the job.

So when we admittedly play below par and win it's the "rub of the green", and not a good team getting a result when not at their best?
It's not necessarily about luck.
Of course we would have drawn if not for the penalty - but erm we actually in reality (like countless other teams have done in the past), didn't and we won the game.

Most Liverpool fans on here said we didn't play well yesterday (Other LFC forums have said the same) and in terms of the title race it's some United fans saying we are candidates not us.

If Milner gets goals from the penalty spot then it might just be because we attack more than other teams do (something I have read several times on here coming from United fans about you lot).

We were average yesterday, but we won. That's what any stats table will show.

Coutinho is far from a 'one trick pony' really don't know where all this is coming from.
He is a bit inconsistent, but having someone who scores quite a few 30 yard screamers and plays a key role in the build up play and our system overall - fine that's a great pony to have!

Some have suggested we are too reliant on Mane, Lallana has also been one of our best players this season. So them being out of sorts/taken off injured and us being average - I will take a 2-1 win then happily.

To be honest, Pep is our best hope of Liverpool not winning :nervous:

While Liverpool look better than any other team bar City right now, it's too early to make solid predictions about the contenders for the title. Injuries to Coutinho and Firmino and Liverpool will look half the team in attack. Or injuries to Aguero and KBD and City will look a bit ordinary going forward.

It is far too early - but it's funny how a lot of people on here slated our summer transfer business and now many saying only City can stop us winning the league though.

We are only a few games into the season, I still don't see us as title challengers personally. Would be very happy to be proved wrong.

Very, very impressive statistics indeed. And they look like they've gained some consistency as well.

Of course it's far, far too early to make any reasonable predictions for the title race. But both Liverpool and City have looked much better going forward than us so far.

What defines champions is how you respond to the inevitable setback you'll get down the line. That's where it will get interesting, along with how well Klopp's squad handles injuries and fatigue.

Of course every single United player is world class, but they have been held back by Moyes, LVG, Mourinho and Rooney.

They're certainly looking very strong at the moment. Whilst I don't think they'll win the league, I think they're pretty much nailed on for top four, injuries permitting. Mane is going to be their version of Suarez/ Torres, incredible how much they're relying on him already.

Hard to say how much we are relying on him, I know what you mean though. To be honest all teams rely on someone to a degree Aguero's goals for City , Ibrahimovic goals for United. same with Costa for Chelsea.

Mane gives us some width and pace we have been lacking, and obviously can score goals too.

I think it's fair to say he lacks the guile of firmino close to the box and is a bit too eager to shoot at times. Pathetic to conclude that that is all he's about though. His ability to transition the ball from midfield to attack is peerless - He does great work from deep. And has 4 goals and 6 assists in 8 games so far this season. Decent one trick. Or maybe he meant this trick:

or this

It would be lovely if he became that. Not seeing it yet though. He's really good and definitely gives us a new dimension, but he's not close to Firmino or Coutinho's level yet this season. I am still kinda waiting for him to do the whole 'I am just going to win this game myself now' thing he likes to do.

Given what Leicester did last year with no distractions Liverpool have every chance....

Playing really well in most games and getting lucky in others is a nice mix for them.

Looking forward to seeing how we meet the challenge in a couple of weeks

I really dont think we were that lucky. We played with really good intensity in the second half and hammered at their penalty area. It's not like we were turgidly passing it around before a stray ball bounced off a defenders arse to loop the keeper or something. We just had to grind it out.

Liverpool = lucky , other teams = grind out a result sign of a good team

opposition missing open goals = lucky

thought a draw was a fair result on the balance of chances

So by that logic you agree our game against Burnley was grossly unlucky as opposed to it being our modus operandi? Which everyone on here and his wife seem to be suggesting.

I do agree with that. Think I said so, too.

edit - didn't I just an' all, :D

I think them losing at Burnley was a bit of freak result. I think they're better than that with 1st XI all playing. Can & better CB than Klavan missing, very good 2nd minute goal for Burnley, equally well timed goal number 2 just before HT to keep Burnley belief levels high.

Whilst the stats regarding goals, shots and chances created are clearly good, not sure how useful running 116km per game is, nor how useful making 588 sprints per game is. When you're ranked 1st in the league for possession and passes in the opposition half, what the hell is going on that requires so much running?

Well... attacking.
