Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

His Liverpool side feel like the sort who would beat Barcelona on a Tuesday and lose to Basingstoke on the Saturday.

All it takes is one game for some to get nervous. Ok they look good but they lost to Burnley just 2 weeks ago.
Even if they win next 2 it still means nothing.
They have a good shout for top 4 but lets relax now guys. Don't act like they're Barcelona or something.
They don't need to be Barcelona to finish in the top 4 and possibly challenge for the title. Last season everyone kept saying how Leciester and Spurs would eventually drop off. Never happened did it. Being free of European commitments could really work in their favor.

This

I wanted them to beat Arsenal and Chelsea as they look like a team that will struggle against the lower opposition. Same story for years

Despite the obvious disappointing Burnley result it has still been a great start.
Having played just 1 game at home and already played Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea away plus Leicester at home.

OK so some people over rating Liverpool massively already. One injury to Mané and those brilliant lightning breaks are done. They'll be back to Danny Ings and Emre Can in attacking positions.

Away games suit their style better, we'll see what they really have when they've to create chances against deep lying, packed defences at Anfield on frozen pitches in late December. With the weight of playing every 2-3 days in the freezing fog draining soft little players like Coutinho, Mané, Firmino, Wijnaaldum as they can't get warm no matter how many gloves or snoods they wear while the hard men of teams like Stoke and West Brom come and bully them into giving up points.

They're all carefree now playing great football all full of energy, injury free and confident but when the Winter comes their title challenge will die off, like the summer

 made me chuckle

First teams will learn to counter it slowly. Secondly even now around 70 mins they looks so tired. Their strategy is to score 2-3 in that time span and defend well after that. I don't think they have enough strength in depth to keep the pressing style working in the second half of the season.

City vs Liverpool will be the best match this season though
This isn't the first season you know. Why haven't celebrated managers such as Conte, Wenger and Poch learned to counter it then if it's as easy as you seem to think ? Also you are wrong about the 70 mins comment ... we tend to take a breather and then come again, even yesterday Chelsea were strong 46-65 mins then after that mark we had another patch (and created the best chance of the 2nd half, bar the goal) until the last few minutes when Chelsea desperately threw the kitchen sink (same vs Arsenal & Spurs, vs. Leicester & Burnley we were on top the full 90 mins). Having read a few interviews with 'Pool players recently this seems to be key to the team's stamina, taking breathers at the right time and pressing intelligently.

I'd also dispute the strength in depth comment to be honest, one made out of ignorance of our players I suspect. We may have substantially reduced the size of the squad for this season, for obvious reasons. However almost certain first team players ; Firmino, Karius & Can were non-starters yesterday, Ragnar, Origi, Lucas and Ings provide good backup and there are some very promising youngsters (Grujic, Ejaria, Ojo, Brannagan, Alexander Arnold - all of whom have 1st team games under their belts) it's not a squad of United's depth but then we don't (an injury horror list aside) need it to be.

He's changed them into a fantastic team to watch as I thought he would. Let's just hope he doesn't learn how to best small teams anytime soon, then we're in trouble.

It's annoying how he's taken them in the exact direction I wanted us to go in.

Will probably get slaughtered for posting this in a United forum, but I still like Klopp as a character and a manager. If it's not United, I'd much rather have Liverpool or Chelsea win the PL over City and Arsenal.

You must be kidding me. Wanting a team whose manager you like to win the title is one thing. As a United fan, hoping for Liverpool to win the title is quite another. To put it mildly.

Have a fecking word with yourself.

Urgh I don't understand people who are so swayed by individuals that they want their biggest rivals to win. On what planet is Liverpool winning the league better than arsenal doing so? They could have Cantona in charge but they'd still be Liverpool. Control your fascination with another bloke ffs.

They were missing Firmino yesterday and weren't as inventive in attack as usual. Mane and Coutinho weren't particularly great. But their defensive play was uncharacteristically good. Matip is a very good signing for them. Klopp is addressing their problems.

Thing is they play with great intensity and this will help them against all type of opposition, and not only vs the top teams. They were embarassing vs Burnley (still 80% possession) but maybe all top teams will suffer unexpected defeats at some point. I don't see anything to suggest that Liverpool will struggle vs bottom half teams. They are good not only in counter attacking, they move the ball pretty well even against deep sitting defences. No Europe is a big plus for them, given their exhaustive style of play. Can see them finishing in top 3.

I already mentioned Liverpool will do well in big matches. But there are small teams like what happened against burnley, they will absorb and hit you on the counter.

You don't have any distractions I agree but that bench is not sufficient especially if you have one or two injuries. And did you trust your own defense? I see Liverpool entertaining in certain matches and hope they can pip chelsea to top 4 too.

Never happened under Klopp

Frozen pitches? It's not 1983

Why would Liverpool play so regularly when not in Europe?

When the winter comes? Is this Game of Thrones?

Also, are all the other side's not affected by the weather, just Liverpool who will crumble?

Great set of points though.

I guess the small team issue hasn't really been proven one way or the other yet. A single defeat to Burnley is not a pattern.

Like him or loathe him one thing you can't deny about Klopp is that his teams have a very clear identity and he's done well to implement it at Liverpool in a relatively short time. Agree though with one of the earlier posts on here that Liverpool are a team that look like they can take five steps forward but then one gigantic step backwards. Could be dangerous though if they can cut out the occasional implosions that stop them in their tracks.

No. Please just don't. That's far too dirty and disturbing a thought to even slightly brush against my wildest imaginings.

eewww.

Hull & Swansea up next, the type of games his star players go missing in.

Clearly, a great manager who likes to play attractive football, shame he's at Liverpool.

The most frustrating part of this shite is that, I'm convinced our squad has far more quality than theirs.

I was really worried about our midfield before the season started but so far Henderson, Wijnaldum and Lallana in his new role have been very good.

Lovren and Matip will be a great partnership at the back for us too.

Matip on a free is looking like a fantastic signing.

This is brilliant!

Ok. They're probably fight for the title and that's that.
Who knows maybe they'll win easily.
I mean it's 5 games ffs..

You are crazy. You'll get slaughtered and rightly so.

Maybe even most Liverpool fans would agree with this.

I agree you probably have, but it's not always about that you need to be a team. Leicester is a prime example, and spending money (as we have shown in the past), is no guarantee of success.

It's not like United have had a bad start though is it?

As for us it's only 5 games in, far too early but given the difficult start playing Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea away, plus Leicester at home it's been a great start even taking Burnley into account.

One of the biggest factors so far is the number of players surplus we managed to sell, having virtually no net spend in the window and bringing in someone like Matip for free shows we are hopefully moving in the right direction.

Don't get me wrong. Your team has style, you're playing a nice football and Klopp's hand so to say is more than obvious. If you sort out those smaller games you could be up there, not only in a fight for top 4 but maybe in a fight for the title.

But these hugs are a bit cringeworthy. :)

We've (united) had a decent start but we have to win tomorrow else it'll start to look less rosy

Mild overreaction about their performance last night, yes beating Chelsea at SB is a great result but I don't think the performance was that great tbh. One goal was a poorly defended free kick and the other was a one in a thousand hit from Henderson. They fully deserved the win but I don't think the performance really told me anything big about this team.

They are I guess from a rival fans viewpoint - but not from ours :)

Fair enough, we need to not get too carried away, it's early days - I suppose it's more based upon the fixtures we have faced. We have had a really tough start.

Fair enough, but not many teams will win there. I guess the overreaction comes from also beating Arsenal & Leicester - and we should have beaten Tottenham too.

Our first half performance was very good - if you don't rate our overall one then I guess we went to Chelsea and won without playing that well then. I will take that.

Of course. Everything he does is fabulous I guess in your eyes:)

What if any other manager has done something like that?

To be honest it's not something I ever take any notice of as far as other managers doing it.

Klopp does get a bit carried away but that is what we like about him. Nothing wrong with it at all. Shows some passion and a good relationship with the players.
I suppose also you aren't supposed to like our manager, it's the way it is (though I know a lot on here do, maybe a little begrudgingly). ;)

Wouldn't bother me one bit if other manager's did it.

You're style can be sustained throughout the season, you have no European football to worry about.

Matip has surprised me.

Shades of Jockey in him .

So out of the big teams to play away we only have City don't we ?
