Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

Most points dropped from winning positions in the league this season too (19). He's a genius though.
This being a United forum and Liverpool having lost tonight I think that this statistic shouldn't go unnoticed. I've played down his league form in this thread and it was met with backlash, not only from Liverpool supporters, and I feel this stat backs up my point about his league form being unimpressive this season.

I wish I shared your confidence.
Really? At home, one game away from the final, with Klopp as your manager? Add to the mindset that you have a lead to overturn and I'd be very confident if I were a Liverpool fan; and I'm a pessimistic bastard at the best of times with United

Yeah you're probably right. I do think we can win next week although they're very good defensively. It's just the lack of an away goal that's bothering me, if they take the lead we'd have to score 3 goals and that isn't easy against a team like them.

Concede one and they need to score 3 against a pretty good defence. I think they are going out

I just can't see them living with a Klopp team at home in full flow, but lets hope I'm underestimating the Spaniards.

Basically since they put out Dortmund I've given up all hope that Liverpool won't win the competition and thus be in the Champions League next season, but as I said above, I'm a pessimistic bastard

Not to downplay Klopp or Liverpool, just saying Villarreal is good at disrupted rhythm. Barcelona and Real Madrid not always have good time against them. They have psychology advantage with the a win without conceding also. Dortmund didn't until their second goals, but Dortmund is more of control, counter attacking team than disrupting team. So this is very different scenario.

A true mastermind in Europe. Will do well in CL next season after winning this EL.

Yea, going behind 3-1 and resulting to a gung-ho style which basically counts on your opponent making mistakes is some astute management.

I said earlier on in the season when they were ten or so points behind us that they have a higher ceiling than us and actually are capable of breathtaking games at times... klopp has a clear idea what he wants and it will mean alot of goals and pressing.

Under LvG we will continue to bore our way to mostly draws and wins or losses with a one goal difference.

I forgot they reached the League Cup final too. Klopp really does seem excellent for cup competitions, always getting the most out of his players.

When you see Emre Can now compared to last season you can really see how good he is at improving players. I don't know why Rodgers never gave him a run in midfield, he was never suited to playing in a back three. If Klopp gets his transfers right I think we'll have a good chance of getting top four next year.

Such a unlikeable classless cnut. Arguing with Marcelino today like he does with every other manager.

He's a genius when it comes to bringing the absolute best out of limited teams. No other manager in the game right now can match him in this aspect. It's eerily reminiscent of Fergie. To top it off, the players love him and seem to be willing to walk through fire to please him. He also proved that once he's reached the top, he knows how to stay there. Oh and I almost forgot: he's an advocate of actual entertaining football.

Feck Liverpool for getting him. They are 100% sure to be title contenders next season. They might not win it already then, but they'll be comfortably safe in the top 4, not far behind whoever is in the lead.

26 years. Bindipping cnuts

Good shout, but I think part of the reason he was able to be so successful is because the PL has been in shambles ever since Fergie retired.

Massive achievment obviously, but let's not forget that Klopp has impressed with weaker teams several times before(Mainz, Dortmund and now most likely Liverpool).

Getting rid of Rodgers early on this season was obviously the right call. Probably should have brought in Klopp earlier but credit due for not leaving to the point of no return. Shame our owners don't seem particularly interested in the sporting side of owning the team.

You have to wonder how early we approached Klopp. I'm pretty sure we did at least a week prior to Rodgers getting the sack. Considering the alternative of sticking with Rodgers, I'm so glad that the club acted. I would never encourage the sacking of managers but sometimes it has to be done or you risk stagnating.

If there's a clearly better option available, and it was already in question, then you make the move. Can't help but wonder what might have been had we done the same in December when Mourinho was available and LVG was looking completely lost.

I still think you will make that move. The press don't really have a clue when it comes to United from what I've seen and Mourinho's seemed confident for a while he's got something lined up. I think you'll get him.

Scousers and hindsight - its a religion! I'm sure this lot were all Dodgers fans or was it Kenny, or Benitez et al. Good thing there were all those changes to prevent stagnation...:lol:
I was a Rodgers fan but after seeing us go out with a whimper against Villa at Wembley, concede 6 against Stoke, put in one of the most pathetic displays from any Liverpool side at Old Trafford and generally look like a side in a steep decline at the back end of his time as manager I was ready to see Rodgers go.

Fans are allowed to change their minds. I bet you thought Van Gaal was great during the 2014 pre-season.

Agreed, I think so too. But we could very easily have had secured a CL spot by now. Or be the ones planning for an EL final. For me, it's symbolic of larger issues at the top like greed, egotism and ineptitude which are hampering us.

He`s elevated all of the players at Liverpool, which is what great managers do, James Milner is the new Ozil, Lolana, Can, Firminho, Coutinho, their whole team basically have improved alot

Then you got LVG who destroyed Di Maria, and Depay, even Herrera and Mata, are not playing at the level they were when we first got them, our only saving grace is Martial, Rashford, and De gea

Never once supported LVG, in two years of watching Bayern and his time at Holland confirmed my dislike. My record of dislike for him predates my joining here and included being being vilified by the RoM forum from day one for not liking him. My first anti-LVG post was 20 July 2014 and led to being sacked for referring to him as a cnut in January last year. As far as i am concerned nothing has changed, and my record of criticism is solid here.

My post wasn't about changing minds it was your comment of changing managers and stagnation, a somewhat different reason.

Fair enough, I guess you're pretty sick of him by now!

Just to be clear, I don't mean that we've done well following the sacking of Benitez or Dalglish. Since we finished second in 2009 we've been fixed in mid-table and we've only won one trophy in the last ten years. My comment about stagnation was specifically related to what was happening under Rodgers. You can see with some scenario's that the manager simply has to go otherwise the only way is down. Look at what's happening at Everton with Martinez, Wenger at Arsenal or Mourinho at Chelsea this season. It can get to a point where the manager sucks all the life out of watching the team for us as supporters and everything starts to look bleak with no resolution in sight. It reached that point with Rodgers for me and I think we were right to get rid of him.

just goes to show you what a proper coach can do with players.....Lallana and Firmino looked like ghosts under Rodgers, under Klopp they are flying. Emre fecking Can is dominating the game in midfield and even the likes of Toure/Lovren look like a good players.....and then you hear LVG how he lacks quality in our squad, feck off you ***.

Klopp is a great coach. This is their second final already this season. It's clear the effect he is having. If the other big teams don't sort themselves out next season..

We've still been far too late. We've essentially thrown away top 4 by sticking with him, and better prospects for next season. Heck I was convinced that we would've won the league, if we sacked after Wolfsburg because we really weren't that far behind - and even with Leicester clutch second half, I still think we would've been pretty close.

Liverpool acted at the right time, stopped the rot before it spread too far. We're in need of major amputation again, same as post Moyes.

I was fine with him getting another season. I think we sacked him at the right time, maybe a bit too late even. It was clear that he wasn't going to be turning things around this season either. He majorly lost his way.

Hindsight would have been to say we should have sacked him after Stoke. Which, with the full benefit of hindsight, we should have. It broke him and his utterly reactionary tactics since then made us even worse. Without hindsight, we moved at more or less the right time. It was fair enough to believe he might be able to turn it around over the summer with new staff. Didn't happen. Thankfully, Klopp was still available.

I remember that we had discussions about Klopp during his time at Dortmund and after the time he left.

Do the people that thought differently then understand now why especially we Germans thought that coaching a team like Liverpool is the ideal place for him in England?

IMO, he would have fit in just as well right here. A proud, traditional club that's fallen on some hard times. Fans would have adored him, players would have fought for him. Not really sure what Liverpool can offer that United couldn't (insert scouser joke here)?

Something that fills me with confidence about Klopp is him bringing something back we haven't had since rafa - stamping our own tactics on the game.

If we want to play high up the pitch and attack, we generally do it. If we want to hit on the break, we do that.

Sure, there are plenty of mistakes made still, meltdowns and just being overpowered by quality. I've sat through so many games these past six years wondering what the hell the tactical plan was for the game, what the manager was trying to do that somehow we aren't doing.

That's not happening here. Execution may not be flawless but we are playing with purpose now, our tactics are shaping the game.

Interestingly, Klop's had much more success in the cups than in the league. Maybe a part of the explanation is trivial: Liverpool lacked enough quality up front in the first months of his stint and lost too many points in the league (Mignolet made too many mistakes, too). Once Sturrige came back and Origi started to perform better, the results improved significantly. It was late for a good league campaign but enough to reach two finals in the cups.
