So according to Kean, it looks like he's unlikely to sign a new contract with Blackburn and will be available on a free next summer. Looks like a talented player but probably not good enough for us.

Will be a good signing for the likes of Everton and Aston Villa IMO.

Expect Liverpool to be interested.
'arry wouldve loved him but he will probably be managing England next season

I would take him on a free but I am not sure if we could find space to accommodate him. He mainly plays as a winger, doesn't he? Well, then when Giggs retires and I am pretty sure he will after this season, we could move Park to the middle and have Hoilett as one of our four wingers. He wouldn't be getting much playing time though as Nani, Valencia and Young will all be ahead of him.

Steve Kean has told Junior Hoilett that he should only be thinking about joining a 'top-four club' when he leaves Blackburn.

Hoilett's current contract expires in the summer and he has yet to agree a new deal with Rovers.

Blackburn have been trying to persuade the 21-year-old forward to extend his terms, but it seems he is set to leave at the end of the season, at which point the Ewood Park club would be due compensation for a player they signed at 13.

He has also been linked with a possible exit in January, but Kean insists that if he moves on then it should only be for one of the Premier League's top clubs.

"I've told him that if he ever leaves the club, he should be going to a top-three or top-four club," said Kean.

"I don't know if he's at the stage yet that if he went to a club like that he'd play consistently.

"But we can give him games where he's going to feature and be a match-winner for us."

Does anyone else think that he is good enough for us?
Now I'm thinking about it properly, he could turn out to be a player like Young.

I can see Chelsea going for him to play the SWP winger-who-never-plays role.

Would be worth a risk, espeically because we would only have to pay compensation.

Looks talented and we have certainly seen him improve over the last year

Why not?

Good little player. Not ready for a big move yet though.

I say we sign him.

What's the worst that could happen anyway? He's free and wont ask for too big of wages I presumed. We can sell him after a year or so if he's not up to it. Even a million or two would be good.

exactly, at least he has shown he can play in the PL and I have seen more ability in him than Obertan

He wont be free
The club that signs him will have to pay a compensation. The fact that he is playing as often as he is means it wont be cheap. A few million at least.
Sturridge cost chelsea ~5m and he wasnt a regular.
Not sure how the tribunal decides the valuation, but Hoilett is unlikely to be very cheap.

Yeah it will be max 5Million, thats cheap for a young English player with good potential

He might be but I think we could have one too many if we bring another player like that. Nani, Valencia and Young are all in their mid 20s and will carry on playing for a good few years. Although to be completely honest I could see him seeing off the competition from two of them as he has the potential to be as good or even better from the little that I have seen.

He is a stand-out player at Blackburn. But, I am not sure at this stage if he is good enough for a 'top 4' club. Also, the compensation that would have to be paid could be quite high.

I would like to point out that there is no such thing as a top 4 anymore. There's arguably top 6 but you cannot determine which teams would constitute as a top 4.

He's looked quality whenever I've seen him this season. I wouldn't mind us signing him at all.

Good player, if for some reason we needed a new one this summer to play a squad role he's good enough for that

Aye.

I didn't know about the Jamaican side of it until I read his Wiki to make sure I was thinking of the right player when I said he was Canadian.

On there it states he wanted to play for Canada but his dad wants him to play for Jamaica.

How many of you have seen him play consistently, apart from the odd goal on Match of the day?

Just went on and read that there. Sounds odd, seems that daddy Hoilett has his eye on the cash.

I've seen him play as often as Blackburn have been on the tele.

Will these new rules for the youth players have an effect on his signing after the contract has ended? Aaron Ramsey was used an example in the paper. He cost Le Arse 5mill, but in the new laws the first payment would only have being around 150k, the rest is bonus' depending on appearances for club and country and all that crap.

My dream of another Canadian player playing for United is still on!!!!

God I hope he plays for Canada - we're absolutely shite. Qualifying for the next World Cup will help. Jamaica is just as bad as Canada and he would most likely never get a game for England so Canada should be his choice!!

I'm sick of this 'eligable for multiple countries' bullshit.

Like Hargreaves Hoilett was born and raised in Canada. I don't care what your parents are or what country you move to; if you are born and raised in Canada you are feckin Canadian.

International football can be really feckin stupid sometimes.

I agree.

International sport is a bit a farce in this respect.

Fair play.

Hes been playing against our youth and reserve teams for years.

Yeah, but not everybody has access to that.

Just wondering as plenty of people seem convinced we should sign him, on what I presume is on the basis of a few good moments seen on Match of the Day, because lets face it, who the feck wants to watch 90 minutes of Blackburn Rovers.

I'd like to think I've seen enough of him over the last couple of seasons. I think the free aspect is what is really appealing to people, it's about as risk free as you can get in football.

He looks a good player in a poor side, always been impressed by Hoilett and although another left winger would be nice I'd prefer a naturally left footed left winger, I also feel that this is the area Ravel Morrison is most likely to get integrated into first as he becomes part of the first team squad. Robbie Brady has also looked good for Hull during his loan spell and offers the option of a natural left winger, so although Hoilett would be a smart signing I'd rather not have him here as I feel it would impinge on the development of some of our younger players.

And this is what's wrong with the PL.

Here we are willing to throw our money around and buy players who we all know, at this stage, aren't good enough for us, but it's a low risk. When a team a step up from Blackburn that could use him (Villa, Everton, Stoke) get shafted because they can't pay the same wages as us or bring the same tradition.

It's why our team gets stuffed with Dioufs, Obertans, Dongs, etc. We take them in, loan them or stuff them in reserves and then ship them two years later - they're none the better and the new team has to pay more because now they've been associated with us.

It's greedy. Why "just because"? We have Nani, Young, Park, Valencia as starting wingers with other players in the team capable of covering (Welbeck) and others in the youth department begging for a chance.

What benefit do we get? Giggs' replacement as someone said? Because we've relied on Giggs as a winger how many times this season? Or in general this season to be fair?

We're playing the role of big corporate business here with some fans' perspective - buying smaller companies because we can and "it may work out" then shipping them off either on equal footing than when them came or worse off (Dong). And these same fans bash the PL for what it stands for, bash the fact football isn't about football, and bash the state of the world's economy. And again these same fans moaning about the penny-crunching of the team with higher fees all around - these players are not free, they come with a decent salary and added costs around food, training, medical, travel, clothes, etc. And those same fans who claim we don't treat people like people, when we're saying it's ok to buy a player "just because we can" or "there's nothing to lose" when talking about money - scary language.

I'd much rather we save the funds and buy a proper player than another "project" as we have enough of those or "squad" players as again we have enough.

Just because something doesn't come with an upfront fee, doesn't mean we have to snag it "just because we can" or "we have nothing to lose".

You guys (assuming you're Canadian) get shafted often in International play. There was also that Dutch player who decided to play for the Netherlands over you. Forget his name, not sure if he's even suited up for a national team. Maybe he was De Guzman's younger brother?

You lot need to clean up your act and find a worthwhile coach. Too much talent to be wasting away, getting blown out during group stages in the Federation's tournaments.
