Juan Mata officially leaves Manchester United

Such a lovely man to have worn the clubs shirt. A sublime footballer that gave us a fair share of memorable moments. Best of wishes wherever you go Juan.

Was a nice person and decent player to have around. Thanks for everything and good luck to you in the future.

Some posts are quite harsh here, he was brought in by a desperate manager with no clue how to utilise him. Then subsequent managers were largely the same.

Ultimately Mata should have left of his own accord years ago but he remained to be part of some pretty miserable years at United.

One of the only successful transfers we’ve had over the last 8 years or however long it is. Both of Moyes’ signings did well for us funnily enough.

This is the first of the departures that is actually upsetting, despite the fact that he should've really gone a couple of years ago.

Never once questioned his commitment to the club; real shame that we've wasted him the last couple of years.

All the best to him

He could have given so much more under a decent manager. Shame he has been here through such a dogshit era as you can see how much love and respect he has for the club and fans. He seemed to love the city of Manchester in a way few foreign players do. Won’t be missed on the pitch but his attitude and professionalism off the pitch will be.

He's hardly played for 3 years.

I find the praise he's getting (in comparison to to the abuse Pogba and Lingard received) bizarre.
Juan was nothing but a consummate professional at the club. He never disrespected the club in ways both of the players you mentioned have.

Despite sitting on the bench for near 3 years we never heard him in the press, or angle for a move, or post pictures wearing other clubs shirts, never 'leaked' stuff to the press etc.

You would've thought our 2 'academy products' would have more respect for our club and our fans than a former Chelsea player.

In terms of his actual impact, he was underwhelming considering the expectations, but as a person he's a top man and the fans won't fault him for that.

Lovely bloke, most importantly a consummate professional unlike Lingard and Pogba. Wish him the absolute best. Was never the right fit, and we probably should not have kept him on this long given he hardly played. We can't be spending 150K + on just having a gentleman in the dressing room.

Would love for him to have a bit of an Indian summer in Spain or Italy.

I like Jesse more than most on here, but Mata was simply a much much better player than him. As others have said he was more professional as well.

Seems like a decent lad - stayed a bit longer than probably should have but there have been other players who took much bigger liberties.

At least 2 years too late, he should have left couple of seasons ago and played regular football.

Good luck for his future, hope he plays lot of games at his next club.

Matić, Cavani, Pogba, Lingard, Mata...how much is that in wages?

Best of luck, Juan! Classy player, lovely man. Would like to see him back at some capacity in the future.

Side note it would be brilliant if these leaving tweets happened everyday until ETH was just left with Sancho and Fred.

Back on topic...good luck to Mata, it feels like he is 42 but i hope he can get a club back in Spain for a few years.

Good luck to him, seems like a decent chap, which isn't a trait I'd apply to some of his colleagues leaving around the same time. He'd be a useful player in a good footballing team, we weren't, he had moments, but a tidy player like him was never going to make a huge impact with us. Seemed like a positive influence to have around.

Decent player, never really fit in. Some minor contribution here and there (free kick against Juve). All the best in the future to the lad.

An excellent player in his prime and a terrific guy. Like a number of others, he was kept on for too long, so it's good to see Ten Hag making the required changes quickly.

He'll be welcomed back anytime. Good luck to Juan.

Glad to have him connected to the club. Hope he does an Arteta and comes back as a coach (not manager and assuming he isn’t actually shit, rather than just a nostalgia job).

Love Juan, what a gentleman. I always thought we looked better when he was brought on, able to find space and have the vision to find his teammates in confined areas. A real mystery why he wasn't used much.

We didn't get to see the best of Mata. He did a jon but at the end was just taking up a spot for no real reason. He did seem to be very professional. Juanfield will always be special!

Sad about this. Should have built the team around him, instead we played a slow midget on the wing. Should have just sold him at that point than countless managers making the same mistake. He did a job for us there but we got nowhere near the best out of him while he wasted a fair chunk of his career

I'll never understand how he doesn't get stick, it's like he's got some special treatment or something.

Big fee signing, big wages, never lived up to the expectations but he's got a face of a good lad so he'll be missed.

Thanks for the goals in the FA cup final, against pool and Juve. Ultimately underwhelming but always a top pro. All the best in your next club Juan.

Everyone in the squad has underperformed and most of them are dislikable.

Unlike some, he does not have a circus around him, leak stuff to the press, disrespect the club or behave like a twat. So it’s not a surprise to see a likeable bloke like him get praised.
