NOTW says (it must be true:lol:) the usual suspects in England have joined the race for Altidore after Real Madrid were turned away during the January window.

Chelsea and Manchester United have joined the battle for USA sensation Jozy Altidore.

The News of the World says the Premier League giants, along with Manchester City, are all checking striker Altidore, 18, who is wowing crowds watching New York Red Bulls.

Altidore has grabbed 13 goals in 33 appearances for Red Bulls and hit 19 goals in 25 games for the U.S. Under-17s.

Jozy...scored on his senior debut in a friendly against Mexico three months ago.

Looks really promising when i have seen him.

Only 18.

He's got all the tools.

He can hold the ball up, run at defenders, get behind defenders, shoot, pass and head the ball.

My favorite Jozy moment was when he was holding off several defenders in the corner late in the Sweden game and his teammates were looking on and smiling, knowing damn well nobody was going to get the ball from him.

is he the next Freddy Edu, btw, what happened to that cnut? Is he still playing for Real?

Scored on his senior debut against Mexico, looks like a beast of a youngster but not sure if he can handle Europe just yet.

If hell freezes over and a great American player comes along, I'm pretty sure we'll be in for him. Whatever happened to Eddie Gavin btw?

Altidore looks to have the tools to be a decent player. Good size and speed but he's still a kid just like Adu. No where near ready for a top flight club. Anyone want to bet on Fulham? ;)

He looked good in 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup last summer in Canada, as the leading goal scorer for the Americans with 4 goals. Seemed similar to Drogba if I remember correctly, big and strong, tough to handle in the box. But he has a long way to go before he develops into a player capable of playing in the Premier, let alone at United.

You mean Eddie Johnson? He just signed with Fulham.

He's not a teenager and is quite a crap striker in my opinion. Been watching MLS for a few years now that I'm in the States, it's not THAT bad a league.

Altidore in my opinion will be better then Adu (also rank Szelta (sp?) up there too). He's decided for the moment he'd like to stay in the MLS and has turned down some clubs previously. Be interesting if he finally left, it's only a matter of time. He'd do well coming to a Villa or Everton and playing half a season in Championship to find his feet. He'll be something I would say.

About Adu why is everyone so negative? He is doing quite good at Benfica if you ask me.

.

Anyway, he was the last talked about US player when he was a teenager.

Didn't think I'd have to spell that out.

You do understand that was when he was about 14 or 15 years old? Right? He's only 18 now. Kind of hard to say he turned out to be shit.

EDIT: Adu has 15 appearances with SLB almost all as a sub and has 5 goals according to wikipedia. Thats a decent rate.

I'd be mighty pissed if were otherwise and landed at a club like Real or Liverpool

Agreed. He's made of granite from head to boot and has very sticky feet. His movement and ability to keep the ball whilst on the go is very impressive for a lad of his size and strength.

Aye. And I honestly think Altidore could be the boy to finally take that step. Genuine big club material if you ask me. The first American footballer I've ever gotten excited over. If so, I'll be extremely disappointed if he doesn't end up at Old Trafford. Just the sort of player the squad is currently missing as well. Although admittedly he still has a way to go before he'd be ready to contribute in England... as I would also guess Manucho does, though.

kids looks to be strong on the ball, good technique and pace so might be worth getting him to OT for a trial.

Oh really? Is the guy you're fecking named Jozy or Jose or something similar? 'cause that would explain it.

Some dodgy keepers in that You Tube clip it has to be said. But in fairness he looks good - However, is he any different to our own Danny Wellbeck ?

Is he any better than Adu, who failed to live up to all the hype ?
