Josip Drmic

So the last strikers we signed for serious money were Henry £11m, van Persie £3.75m, Adebayor £5.7m and Giroud £11m. Take the D hat son, you've earned it.
 you really are a shadow of your former self, "son". Handy that you forget Chamakh, who although was a free signing, was a starting striker for your lot, until you wised up to fact he was shit. The fact that you resort to using Henry and van Persie for your argument who you signed more than ten years ago is even more pathetic!

I'm not the only one who has reservations of a player no one but Arsenal want. Especially when his asking price is £8m. Screams Giroud to me.

Erm, Dortmund, Leverkusen, Spurs, Everton were all scouting him. Simply Arsenal got in their quick, a bit like we did with Hernadez! I'm still not convinced the story is true anyway as I think Nurnberg will hold on because Drmics value is rising with every game passing and he has the chance to impress yet further at the World Cup.

Drmic came out and rubbished these reports anyways, so they may not end up with him, and naturally every man and their dog is interested according to the BBC

How many of those are top top clubs? Arsenal don't need another up and coming talent, they need a world class striker. I don't see this guy suddenly scoring 20-25 goals a season for Arsenal like Arsenal desperately need.

Anyway that's not the point I was arguing. Like I said I've not seen him play, and it seems like you have, so you would know better than most about how good he is. What I was trying to say to Pete was that the transfer (not the player) to me, reeks of similar signings made like Giroud who was a similar age and had a similar scoring record when he moved to Arsenal. It doesn't help that Arsenal's recent track record of signing strikers stinks.

He's right, you are a dunce. No-one wanted RVP either and Henry was written off. Your logic is flawed but mostly because of your bias.

I think you've both misunderstood me which could be due to numerous reasons such as the fact that it's 2am and I'm tired or that I'm just spouting bollocks. Having not watched the player, I can't really say much on how good he is. All I've said is that his transfer reeks of the Giroud one and I'd never seen him play either but a lot of the things I heard about him were similar to what I'm hearing about this fella too. What I was trying to say is I wouldn't be too surprised if he turns out like Giroud. Add that to the fact that Arsenal really need a world class striker, not a youngster with a lot of potential, but fair enough if people think he can be world class, then I'll hold my hands up and admit I'm wrong.

I'm not the only who has reservations either though. Just in this thread, Barney and Dante had similar views and I'm sure we're not the only ones.

Giroud was 25 (I think) when he joined Arsenal. His first season at Montpellier he scored 12 goals, 15 assists (37 appearances), second season he scored 21 goals, 12 assists (36 appearances). Drmic has 16 in 27 appearances so far, in his first season in the Bundesliga aged 21. Giroud is a better comparison for Aspas who Barney mentioned earlier.

Frankly, I think you all hold reservations because:

A. he's not a name you know of.
B. he's young and cheap.

Find someone who watches Bundesliga and who doesn't rate him. Very few around, there's a reason why we've been hyping him up in the Bundesliga thread, he's fecking good.

I wasn't comparing him to Aspas. I was saying that he sounds like a player that was described in a similar way to Aspas (though without Aspas' nasty side).

You're probably right. One thing that's certain is that it'll be exciting to see how he does for Arsenal next season, if that is where he goes, whether he turns out to be average like Giroud or a bargain like Hernandez.

That's if he goes to Arsenal. I still think the story is complete bullshit myself. He's playing in the World Cup for Switzerland so you can all watch him then. Or you join the revolution and start watching Bundesliga matches (which are great fun watching tbf).

There's your bias again. Giroud is not average.

This money argument gets painful. If you're a top club, which Arsenal are, you shouldn't be looking at the value the player gave. You should be looking at whether your strike force remained top of the draw or not. If it did with less money invested than normal clubs then its a genius move. If not, its stupid. My order of priority

1. Great strike force - cheap (??)
2. Great strike force - expensive (City)
3. Poor strike force - cheap (Arsenal)
4. Poor strike force - expensive (Chelsea)

The day the league is won on points adjusted for spends, then you can give me that argument.

Bayern wanted him but waited for the Euro's and ended up with Mandzukic after all.

I am one wise bastard!

Josip Drmic has completed his transfer to Leverkusen for 6 million euros. An absolute bargain!

OP updated.

6 million euros for him is a steal. He's looked quality this season & Leverkusen could definitely do with another option up top.
