Gotta go out on loan. Somewhere like Wigan!
Thought I'd give this a bump now that he's back with us and playing brilliantly for the reserves.
Just finished watching Girish II's highlights of the reserve game against Rochdale and, after watching him score three cracking goals (could've had more goals and assists), he's clearly a class above that level now. Saying that, just how do we handle this one?
Personally, I think he's the sort of talent that should be kept at the club and monitored closely, though we know he can handle the Championship given the way his loan panned out at the start before injury (the spastic Preston fans - the ones who labelled Welbeck as shite - weren't fond of him by the end of the spell, mind). The problem here ultimately is that he's potentially up against Hernandez, Welbeck, Macheda and, to some extent, Keane for a place in the match day 18 in the future, even though the latter hasn't yet replicated last season's form.
It's a tough one. I think out of all the above, King's got the highest ceiling of the lot of them, but it would be absolute madness to favour him at the moment ahead of Hernandez, and Welbeck's had a hugely successful loan spell with Sunderland. It's almost amusing the current situation here given how we've had something of a drought when it's come to producing strikers. When it rains, it fecking pours!
Any thoughts?
More like he is a Carew, with scoring instinct and a chance to molded into a STAR.
That comparison is apt too. I just think of Carew because I'm certain the boy will get even bigger than he is now.In terms of his playing style, I've always thought that he's resembled Fernando Torres to an extent. By no means do I mean that he'll ever be as good, but if I had to compare him to another forward out there then Torres is the one who springs to mind for me. Quick, direct, multi-faceted in striker terms as he scores all types of goals, runs in behind defenders, good link-up play etc.
He's definitely a very talented young striker, hopefully this glut of good young strikers at the club will mean that the competition amongst them (and ofcourse the first teamers) brings out the best in them.
I think from day one he's been too good for the reserves. We all watch the reserves at some point and (you missed out Cofie btw who Sir Alex rates highly). I think he's a class act. Every game that I've watched him play, he's done something exceptional. Every game.
The good thing for us is that inspite of the injuries, it's not effected his confidence, his game (style of play) or his pace. I think you have to fit someone like King in and forward/winger would probably do it. That said Cofie this seasons been awesome - king like at times.
But Kings exceptional because he's so direct and he achieves so much from it. He's not scared to win back the ball if he loses it, his pace is very good and he's always good for a goal
feck, forgot about Cofie.
Aye, King is class almost every time I see him. He's sometimes a bit inconsistent in his finishing, but feck me he's only 18. His dribbling ability is top notch, he's as fast as anyone at the club and, like you say, he's incredibly direct.
Torres is certainly the comparison to be made, though I think he's potentially a better dribbler. Wouldn't like to say who he'll be as good as, but I think we've got cause to be excited.
I've not seen too much of him to be honest, but comparing him to Torres or saying he is going to be even better is surely extremely over reacting?
If you're right then obviously excitement is an understatement.
I see you haven't been reading the Youth forum much. All our lads are potentially better than everyone playing in the PL.
My bad,
El Kingo, United's number 9!

That's a great way of looking at that statement, so If I say that Gibson is a similar player to Fabregas(he is not, I'm just taking an example) and has better long range shot than him, does it mean that Gibson is better than Fabregas.
KingEric makes a very valid point actually.
Well said...which once again proves the age-old proverb "people who are too simple to see the distinction between 'Joshua King is similar in style to Fernando Torres, perhaps he'll be a better dribbler' and 'Joshua King will be a better player than Fernando Torres', shouldn't try their hand at cleverness."
I think it's our job to get overly excited about our youngsters
I try not to, but my inner muppet is too powerful.

I get a sense that he is the kind of player that will pick up a lot of niggles especially hamstrings because he is just so bloody quick.

If you think Pogba, King, Morrison, Keane, Cofie and others are nothing to get 'excited about' ...then chances are you're dead inside

Also, Torres started playing for A.Madrid's first team at 17 years old and captain by 19.
Impressive amount of missing the point going on.
Sssssshhh Im enjoying it!!!
King is faster than Torres ever was
Got it wrong mate. You can't go from one extreme to the other. Watch the reserves/academy and then tell him to shut his fat face Trust me, you'll see why people rate him/alot of the kids highly....in my time watching the kids, this is the best concentration we've had in years and I don't think forward wise, we've had it this good in a long time.
We're talking about potential here. People knocking it, should be embarassed. Why? Well because we f*ing watch the kids play. We have a basis to form an opinion. There is no way anyone of us can say 100% anything because we are not privy to the ins and outs of everything. This is the time of the 'new' or the 'next' and we can't do anything about it but it's lazy to knock it as we don't gain from it.
We have talented kids, there is no way around that. The only way you can say anything is if you watch when the games are played. The sad thing is they won't all make it, but we have talent in numbers and it's not being a muppet, it's having an awareness of the club we all support...
Are you lot fecking mad? How can you compare King with Torres? Has King even scored for the first team yet? What a bloody joke!
I felt left out so why not join in the foolery?
At a club that is nothing like Manchester United of course. Also, Torres started playing for A.Madrid's first team at 17 years old and captain by 19.
Out of interest, how old are you?

30 and yes i've watched the kids for a good few years around the Mads Timm Era and the like . Any debate people have is based on two things. If they like that person and if they like that person. If they don't, remove all reason. I'm a psychology student if you are that interested, have played football most of my life...has that answered all your questions? It won't change peoples attitudes now will it. However yes it was after Scholes, Giggs, Beckham, Neville/s, Butt etc period. We have good young kids. Why should we say nothing? I see no where people saying everyone will make it. It just seems silly to me when it's our teams future we're talking about and kids who represent our club. Now how old are you, or am I asking but not really that interested?...
We can be optimistic in the youth we have. We have talent in number. Obviously not all will make it. This isn't new information. Obviously when people say he's the next so and so it's silly. We know. It's more for the benefit of people who have not seen the player to get an idea of what he's 'like' not what he 'is' and it might get them motivated to watch for themselves.
