Joshua King / signs for Watford

Wouldn’t shock me if he came in as Ole likes him, he covers a couple of positions and will be fine with a bench role imo and I don't think Ole is that impressed with Igalho.

It’s a tricky one that. If Fergie had this squad there is no doubt in my mind he’d go out and sign a top striker. I think that would be his priority over a RW. Yet most seem to think we don’t need a striker and there’s the possibility it would hinder Greenwood’s development. Personally I’d be all over Haaland when his clause is activated. 5 top attacking players can go into 3 with the number of games we hopefully have going late into CL stages. Plus Mason/Martial also can play wide. Our 2008 squad shows you can juggle such options as do City. Others will disagree though I’m sure and not think we need a striker of that profile.

I take the point Fergie would probably be after a top class number nine, though maybe he'd be encouraged by Martial's performances towards the end of last season as we all are, but I think he'd be with us in making a proper right-sided attacker his top priority. It's the obvious hole in our squad and has been for years.

As for Josh King, he answers none of our big questions. It's true Ole didn't seem to fancy Ighalo towards the end of last year but I find it hard to believe King would have got minutes and done the business. It's questionable whether he's an upgrade on our squad players, which given Ole could barely bring himself to play them is no vote of confidence. Hopefully we don't bring him in as a favour to Solbakken, I think we'd live to regret that.

If its a great price I'd be ok with him. You look at our depth, and right now, Sancho would be perfect. But he looks unlikely, meaning we're short. Even with Sancho, when Ighalo leaves in January, we'll be a bit short in attack so King can basically act as a bridge between getting Sancho/whoever next January or summer, and replacing Ighalo because he can do both wings and up top. Its just he would be signed to be 4th choice, attacker, dropping to 5th choice if/when we sign Sancho but lose Ighalo (assuming Ighalo currently 4th, James 5th). We do probably need 6 players between the 3 attacking positions though, so either way we're light right now and if we don't sign Sancho we'll be at just 4 players when Ighalo leaves.

The guy is begging to come back to the club so we should get a good price and he is a very good player.
VDB , King and a young CB for about 80 mil would be good business for the club as nothing will happen reg Sancho

Well I like the idea of more options off the bench that aren’t Lingard, Pereira or Mata

Fergie would also probably neglect our midfield and continue to try to squeeze the juice out of average midfielders. He would probably never have brought in Fernandes or VDB.

Doubt it, he had Thiago nailed on until Moyes fecked it up.

He is an average injury prone striker who is at the wrong side of his 20s. We can do better

I'd have taken him in January 2020 on a year loan to tape over that area, but surely now that ship has sailed.

Solskjaer needs a younger version of himself. A deadly striker who you can bring off the bench and be confident he'll score.

Imagine being 1-0 down to Liverpool with 20 minutes left and United sub on Josh King. You don't quite get that sense of "Ok something could happen here"

Once Ighalo leaves, they need to be looking for a genuine long-term replacement. Or if Greenwood moves into the centre to compete with Martial, then they need a forward to replace him.

I can understand signing him as he would provide competition and he has some qualities that fit us. He is quick, strong and has an eye for goal. Decent technique. He has taken a lot of steps in his career since a kid to become an all-round decent PL player, but he hasn't really played as a striker that much. I'm not sure why we would spend money towards someone like him unless we could get him for really cheap. I'd say bargaining for Sancho while spending more than 20m on players of this calibre would be a step backwards and I don't think we'll do it.

My heart sinks whenever this thread is bumped.

Surely the ship has sailed on this. Would rather promote a striker/attacker from the youth setup than have King take up space in the first team.

Why does this thread keep getting bumped, surely we’re not still interested in him??

Same for me I shit bricks when I see it bumped.

Bang average player. We are trying to get rid of dead wood, not buy in new dead wood.

People who has seen Norway play over the last 18-24 months, have seen a much better King than what we have seen at Bournemouth. Is he good enough to be a regular at United - of course not. But as a backup striker he is more than good enough if we can get him for under £20 million - but I doubt we can.

Still dont have many options upfront in a few months. Actually have too few. And every single player in our squad do not have to be world beaters. In fact, every good team have a few O’Shea, Park, OGS, type of players. Look at Liverpool. It is not like Origi, Ox, Shaqiri and Lalana is world class.

We should obiously not pay much money for King. But he would be a decent squad option for us. In terms of work rate and physical ability he would add a lot compared to the options we have. I think the combination of pace, strenght and effort/commitment is a very handy combination of skills. He has become a bit of a warrior. Would also give us a bit of physical presence up top.

Besides from that he is a decent player. Not great, but certainly not awful. As a striker he has been a decent goal threath in the PL too. A lot more dangerous in the box than the striker of this years PL winner.

I´d rather see us signing Aleksander Sørloth, tbh.

Wow. 28 pages on Joshua King.

The only way forward for Manchester United is to sign player who are better or at least similar in quality to what we have in our starting lineup.

You can't complain about deadwood and sign deadwood that you got rid of just a few years ago!

If we are serious about competing for the title we need a top CF. It is as simple as that, and this guy is bang average, we can continue with Ighalo as a sub.

It is, and that’s true. But how often have we cried for midfield reinforcements since that 2009 final when we got played like little children after the first few minutes? Caf had a running thread about how carrick isn’t good enough - which eventually became a carrick is highly underrated thread.

Fergie never worked from this philosophy of “holes” in positions, he valued goals, leadership etc more imo. That reminds me, I have to read his autobiography.

We need a title change. It scares me literally everytime i see it. And also Eddie Howe is no longer Bournemouth manager

Unfair to all three to be compared to Josh King. All decent players with special something. Oshea was a utility player who did a job every time he was put in, three lungs park was great for pressing and was a fairly decent footballer, Ole - that man won us the champions league have some respect. He also managed to score four goals in ten minutes after coming off the bench.

Josh is an average footballer that has nothing special to offer. He didn’t cut it here and was let go. Hardly set the world alight since. If this is 20 million, I say go for it. When Ighalo leaves we don’t need to look for another option.

That's a fair point, he tended to identify quality players/characters and would bring them in almost irrespective of whether we 'needed' reenforcement in a given area. I do reckon he'd have palpitations when he saw the state of our wing options though. He loved a good winger did Fergie.

Can I borrow it when you're finished?

One of those signings who are deadwood from first day. He is midtable/bottom table club striker. Why on earth we would go for him?

Agree with a lot of the posters,he wouldnt bring anything we need if we are to challenge at the top.

A nothing player with a huge ego. He knows his level but says he dreams of playing in the Champions league. His goal return doesn't back his ego. Scored 6 goals in the entire season and that effectively is the reason Bournemouth got relegated. We should not be linked with such average footballers. He would cost 20 million or so. How about adding another 20 and sign Dembele from Lyon. Release Ighalo and let Dembele replace him on the payroll.

He’s actually a decent all round footballer. Watched Bournemouth a few times in the last season. He just doesn’t score enough goals, though that’s partly because he’s mostly playing wide for them. I feel he’s the type of player who would thrive in a better team. Can’t see him costing 20m either considering Wilson is going for that or less depending on what you read

SAF thought he has Midfield sorted when we signed Hargreaves and Anderson. They both proved disastrous due to their injuries on after a season or two, but it took SAF another 2,3 years to realise we should have moved away quickly from them both in 09/10 and signed at least couple of good midfielders.
