Why can't this club move on from Fellaini.

Asked for an update on Romelu, the boss began his press conference by saying “I don't know. I just know that, of course, not tomorrow. Apart of that, we need to wait for more scans, more time, but not tomorrow.”

Quizzed if there is a chance of him playing in the FA Cup final, Jose continued: “I hope so. It looks positive, yeah.”
Why Bailly has been missing

“There is no situation. He's fine. No injury. He's one of our five central defenders and, honestly, my work is not about World Cups and preparing players for the World Cup. But he's the only central defender whose country is not in the World Cup, so if I have to make a kind of more emotional, effective, choice to try to help my players, then he's the one I am not going to help until the end of the season. Because, of course, Marcos Rojo, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, all of them are wishing to make the squads for the World Cup and Eric is not under that pressure.”

His comments on Bailly confuse me.

Other 4 CBs have chance to play in world cup so he is playing them so that they can make the squad. Bailly's team didn't qualify so he isn't playing him.

Hughton has done a great job

"That's very, very good. They just need to go from very, very good to amazing. He just needs to confirm mathematically the Premier League. I think they don't need more points, that's my feeling. I think they have the job done, but mathematically they still need a point or they still need some other results that are going to happen for sure, because it's not possible that everybody wins every match.

"Brighton is already in the Premier League for the next year and it's a fantastic job for Chris and it is not surprising for me, because since the beginning of the season, they are showing that quality, that mentality to get the points that they need to stay in the division."

His comments on Bailly confuse me.
He says he wants to play the guys whose national teams are going to the World Cup to give them a better chance of making the squad. Whether we believe him or not is a whole other thing. If Bailly doesn't play in the FA Cup final, it means he isn't first choice at the moment.

He should based on form and ability. But, don't think he will go as he gets far more negative press compared to others.
Nothing to do with press. Southgate excuse is Smalling cannot pass wind. Which is ridiculous.

Why can't this club move on from Fellaini.

Because he's been a key aspect to any success we've had over the last few years? He scored in the 2015 FA cup semi final and assisted Mata in the final, scored in the semi finals of both the Europa League and League Cup last season. Without those trophies, we'd be in a far worse situation than we currently are. I imagine the managers who won those titles are aware of this.

His comments on Bailly confuse me.
Why? For all practical purposes our season is over bar FA Cup final (the three league matches are dead rubbers) so he is saying that he wants to play the other 4 defenders in order to help them get a spot in their team for world cup. It is kind of fair IMO.

Smalling should definitely be on the plane. He’s the best English defender, if he Job was simplified to ‘stopping opponents from scoring’.

Gary Cahill will likely go and be captain too, despite being useless.

I've already acknowledged that. Check my post after that.

Was Bailly fit for the semi final vs Spurs?

His reasons have me dubious to be honest.

That’s what I thought. Maybe big Mike still fancies his chances, though? And so he should. Bit mental to drop him for someone not getting their game at club level.

Agreed, but say Stones goes to the WC, plays every game then has a howler and England get knocked out, the press will have their 'oh well Smalling should have played' excuses at the ready. But yea, Smalling should certainly stand a chance of going.

His comments about keepers winning awards contradict what he's said about De Gea today, but that's expected. I'm sure deep down he'd rather an outfield player win POTY.

You are right, when was the last thing he ever done for us in a game...oh

Yes he has scored important goals, but it just papers over the cracks.. if the club wants to keep him as an attacker than thats fine but I don't find him helping us control games, create chances for the team or do what generally a midfielder needs to do.

We are not able to play toe to toe against our opponents with him in the midfield, so we resort to hoofball tactics in the closing stages. He does not provide anything with his passing range or ball retention skills.

He is a good squad option at best but shouldn't be starting games. Why not just buy better players as replacement?

Why hasn't Rojo been playing then if he's under pressure to get to the Argentina squad? Everygame it's Smalling plus Jones/Lindelof. And Lindelof isn't even under pressure to get to the squad. He'll be there regardless. It's just Smalling really who needs to prove himself. Even Jones if fit will go. Im not 100% sure on Jose's reasoning on Bailly. I think he has fallen out of favour for some strange reason. He should be playing because he's our best defender but seems to have been frozen out completely. United are more important than helping players get to their national teams.
