Jose Mourinho | Spurs manager

At every club he's been at since 2002, Mourinho has won trophies. Will he win one at Spurs?

Yea, same here. I already notice a change in tactics between Mourinho and Poch. I want to see how Mourinho controls the psychological factor post honeymoon period and when players need continued motivation.

Spurs getting a manager like Mourinho before Poch was unthinkable. Which speaks of the incredible revolution and transformation Poch has done

It says more about Mourinho melting down and being mentally unstable the last few years, and not getting a job at a bigger club and having to settle for Spurs. They would not get Mourinho at his prime, only the wreck of a man that he is now.

@TrustInJanuzaj

One thing he did that endeared him to fans is calling out the board. He reflected a lot of the points that we're still making today about lacking ambition.

Really, I don't think people see Mourinho as this terrible figure because we haven't done much better since he left -- actually, we've done worse!

Plus, for all his lack of social grace, he's genuinely one of the smartest people in football. If people used to fawn over Gary fecking Neville then it's understandable they fawn over Mou.

Mourinho made it clear that he wanted to stay in the Premier League. He loves living in London. It is was pretty obvious the only choices were Arsenal and Tottenham; he wasn't going to go back to Chelsea again.

It seems he’s already morphed Kane into Diego Costa mk2 with the shitehousing. He’s been making dirty little fouls all over the pitch.

The squad does seem very well suited to his approach. Workhorses, experienced defenders, Eric Dier clogging about in midfield and a proper centre forward up front. It won't take much to turn them into a functioning Mourinho team.

What will happen in third season, i don't know. If Levy will keep him happy then he maybe stays a bit longer there.
But in this and next season he will be success there. This squad is just built for him and his style. I don't know how he can fail there. This year he will get 4th spot and next year with 2 or 3 more his signings( proven 26y,27y old players), he will be title challenger.

Do you really believe if one of the top teams in the other major leagues (Real, Inter, Bayern or PSG) came for him he would have declined their offer? Seriously??

I have a question on my mind: if Spurs fail to finish this season in the top 4, would it be considered as a failure for Mourinho (considering most think the squad is good enough to finish thereabouts) or do we only start to judge his influence on the team from next season?

Decent first result for him, that.
He’s not had the players training with him for more than a few days, so you’d imagine they’ll end up a lot more solid once he’s been with them for a little bit.
He’ll love that attack though, if he can get Dele Alli back playing really well it will save them a lot of cash too.
Maybe a defender or two in the summer needed.

People saying he's a great manager or was a great manager doesn't mean there's a cult of any sort...

Agree, Mourinho did incredibly well at not just one but several clubs. Like him or not he has achieved things some managers can only dream of. Sadly I think Spurs will fit him like a glove, Mourinho does well at clubs that don't demand as much as the absolute top clubs. Imagine him winning them a European and donestic cup, he'll reach legendary status instantly, unlike being ridiculed like he was on here. No I don't like Mourinho and I was happy he left but he did win us some trophies and get us a 2nd place in the league, not too shabby looking at us now.

Hope he implodes at Spurs like he did with us but I got a bad feeling he'll do really well there.

Poor result considering West Ham didn't even play with a goalkeeper.

We should judge him

After 3 seasons and 6 transfer windows. Obviously

Anyone see Dele talking post game? Sounds kind of depressed Poch had gone and talked of it being a difficult week. Sounded like someone had passed away.

Odd he didn't speak positively about the future. Just sounded off.

Understandable as Poch has been a bit of a father figure for him. Possibly his only positive father figure he has ever had given his upbringing.

Top 4 is a but of an ask given how bad the start to our season was. Hope we can do it but will take some doing.

From optajoe.

3 - Jose Mourinho won as many points today vs West Ham, as Mauricio Pochettino mustered in his final 12 away Premier League games with Tottenham (W0 D3 L9).

I really wish I was. The love he gets shown is ridiculous considering how badly he performed for our club.
He won 2 trophies for us. His first season was like in Fergie era. Trophies, big signings, good football...
And saying that world class manager is world class manager has nothing with "cult love" or something like that.
Bigger cult are people like you who hate him so much and keep talking that he is rubbish manager and who did awful job in United.

Not every context is the same and not every debate must be drawn to Ole. My question was absolutely independent of the discussion about Ole and I don’t think you have answered me sincerely, sounds more like a sarcastic response. Actually, I don’t think anyone has even suggested Ole needs three seasons and six transfer windows to fight for top 4.

People seem to believe the squad at Spurs is good enough to finish in the top 4, so I’d like to know if Mourinho would be considered to have failed if they fail to achieve top 4 this season.

Well, no one can doubt Spurs attack. Jose will be pleased with what he got in his attacking option. However with unsettling & ageing defense and average midfielders, I think he has a lot of work to do especially when he said that Spurs “can” win or challenge the league next season.

Although a little improvement can be made in transfer window and Jose can potentially make them into good title challenger. Signing a new centre back, convince Toby to stay, & sign 2 full backs. Doubt Levy can help him in the summer with those.

Spurs need a revamp of the defence, I think the attack and midfield is actually good. Alderweireld, Rose and Vertonghen passed it, and they also want to leave the club anyway, final payday, increased wages, etc. Aurier never had it, and wants a move as well. His priority should be a CB and a RB.

Given the circumstances can't say he did wrong to see out the game with the subs and tactical changes. At the same time I can't help but relief it's no longer our problem. Spurs fans can get use to it because it's going to be their modus operandi every week for the next two and a half years

Amazing manager Pochettino is. He was even turning it around and just one victory has them six already. It was an overreaction by Levy, but I m glad Levy pull the trigger. Now it is up to Manchester United to act. If Mourinho finish above Ole, I see Ole getting the sack.

however, I m not sure if Pochettino will stay in England or head oversea. Bayern seems very interested. I hope we can convince him to stay inEngland and bring some of his more talented players with him from Spurs. Ole can get us Haland and Poch turn him into a player better than Kane.

Ok, my bad. Straight answer. Yes. Top 4 is a must and fail for me if he miss it

Sickening. Really.
You take like far too seriously. There are many things in life that are sickening.
But.
Move on...
Exactly way more important things in life than picking up on one word in a post. The love he gets is sickening, annoying, delusional, etc etc. The point remains!

People saying he's a great manager or was a great manager doesn't mean there's a cult of any sort...
He was a great manager, he’s no longer a great manager therefore it’s annoying to see people still fawn over the current iteration.

He did do an awful job at Utd! He signed utter garbage for hundreds of millions of pounds and won second rate shite. I’ll admit I enjoyed his first season the most by a mile, but it was all down hill from there despite the second place finish.

How can you watch the drap football, shocking man management and egotistical shite and still consider him world class in this day and age is beyond me. Anyway I very much doubt he will be a success at spurs so that might be the final nail.

I have a question on my mind: if Spurs fail to finish this season in the top 4, would it be considered as a failure for Mourinho (considering most think the squad is good enough to finish thereabouts) or do we only start to judge his influence on the team from next season?

Yes, it will be a failure in my book as it's already proven that they have a squad which can finish in the top-four. In fact, during Poch's tenure, they have collected just about the same points as Liverpool and Chelsea (368 points in 5 seasons compared to L'pool's 370 and Chelsea's 372). There are no question marks here, they possess the quality to qualify for the CL through the league.

One can argue that the gap between Spurs and Chelsea/Leicester is significant but they have already gone to Anfield, to the Etihad and the Emirates and they have two games in hand against Chelsea and they will play Leicester at home. And Mourinho got the job on the basis that he's a world-class manager who can help Spurs take the next step as a football side. As such, he'll be asked to outsmart Rodgers and (the rookie) Lampard, not Klopp and Guardiola in his first six months in London.

So, unless both Leicester and Chelsea go on to have terrific seasons too, it will be deemed as a failure. If Mourinho wins most of his matches but the others manage to keep their current form, then OK. But i can't see it happening. The safest bet is that at least one of them will struggle to keep it up, so the opportunity will quite possibly arise for anyone (Arsenal, United, Spurs) who can maintain a consistent form. And that's why Levy brought Mourinho in, to be this difference-maker.

He has everything spurs were lacking, a winning mentality. They suit each other perfectly, tottenham is a few players away from challenging.
That's exactly what we said. He'll do alright for a bit then it'll go to shit I reckon, maybe even win something before that. We already know these players can lose motivation quickly now.

Did you watch man utd vs liverpool 2nd half?
