Jose Mourinho | Spurs manager

At every club he's been at since 2002, Mourinho has won trophies. Will he win one at Spurs?

Surely people can now see the extent of the rebuild Jose was having to do at United and how the board badly let him down.

There is also no doubt that many of the players have disgraced the shirt at that time, yes definitely Pogba. Players who thought they were bigger than United and wanted to do it their way. As a lifelong United fan, some of the performances from many players were disgraceful and infuriating. How so many got a free pass beggars belief. The spoilt, selfish, entitled, modern United player.

Spurs is incomparable. The expectations are different. He’s not under pressure to keep at great club at the top or restore a top club to greatness. He doesn’t have to nurse a bunch of inconsistent and sometimes petulant youngsters.

It’s a side maybe just past its peak and needing a rebuild soon but that will be bit by bit with a World Class core.

I wasn’t a fan of Mourinho but his record speaks for itself. United was a mess when he was here.

You just described Dele Alli to a T there.

No you wouldn't as Fernandinho would be playing in midfield.
That's a fair point! I do wonder if we'd have been better off getting Maguire instead of Rodri, as opposed to as well as him, but five years down the line Rodri might well have become the heir to Busquets' throne and this little teething period might well have been worth it.

...then takes a generation for the club to recover. In the meantime Liverpool rule England and Europe for a generation....?
Is that what you want? Have you even thought about it?
You will rue the fecking day you wrote that post.

First part of that outcome sounds pretty good, second part, not so good...

Not too worried, Klopp will go on Sabbatical at contract end, the football cycle wheel will turn.

Interesting Mourinho going to our biggest rivals, very hopeful the bitter and deluded one we saw at Chelsea in 15/16 and latter part of Utd works his magic again. If they lose a couple of games, players get the blame and then it's all downhill.

There was only one person who at times acted like he was bigger than the club, and that was Mourinho. The snide comments he started regularly making about the players, the deliberately sabotaging the team line-ups to make a point (what he was doing with the defence early in his third season), the way he deliberately set up the attack on Pogba while the media was there (an attack that was later proven to be factually wrong, but people like you still fall for it hook, line and sinker).

The players aren't completely innocent, but when every player is unhappy, low in confidence and morale, and it's only getting worse, that comes back on the manager. Especially when the identical thing has happened at almost every single club that he's been at.

Don't think he'll do well. Not sure if he is still has it in him, but if he does, it's certainly not going to be the case without proper spending. Spending Tottenham aren't known for.
I don’t think he has. Younger, hungrier and tactically ore astute coaches have taken over.
It’s also a group and team coaching world these days. The era of a coach in total control is over. Jose is a control freak.
It’s like LVG said after a poor loss” I used to be a good coach.”

Except I haven’t.

He’s one player who’s 23 1/2 and been a regular for Spurs for five seasons. He’s a hard working player who has scored more goals than any United player during that period.

Even though he’s a cnut.

So he’s a cnut but not petulant

@InLevyITrust Would you say that Tottenham are more open than United with vids like these? I can’t remember to have ever seen such elaborate training vids from Utd. I also see they are doing the Amazon documentary this season

Yeah see these a lot some are a bit over the top and yeah the Amazon crew have been there since October.

Spurs also need to try and recoup some of the spending. They don’t have the mass appeal as a brand as say Liverpool and Utd. It’s a good marketing move

They still have the unhappier players. It comes down to if he can motivate that squad which is all Poch's, to play for him. The style will either suit them or not.

I still feel we're the more progressive team right now

Interesting, I think their squad is sooo much better than ours that Mourinho will still feel confident of top 4.

I agree to a certain degree.
They need to shape up now and deliver. They can't rely on Kane every week

To be honest I haven't seen much of Rodri. How have you found him? That kind of player seems to need a bedding in period to come to terms with the PL.

I don't have a problem with him when he's in possession. He's classy, sensible, assured, no problems there.

My problems come with how ineffectual he is off the ball. When we're in possession at the back he's not yet got to grips with showing for the ball, which means our CBs are holding onto it for longer and we're moving up the pitch a bit slower. He's at his worst, though, when the other team have the ball - if we ever play Silva, Gundogan and Rodri in the same midfield again then that will be a mistake (see: the Wolves game). Fernandinho's main attribute is his ability to break up the opposition's play by any means necessary, by hook or by crook. Rodri doesn't have that in him. It means two good vertical passes are enough to rip us open at the moment, which is why it's reflecting really badly on Stones and Otamendi. They're getting zero protection from the midfield.

Agree with the first part but not the second. The board stopped backing him because it became clear that his vision was not aligned with the board, and at that point a sacking is inevitable.

We would have been in perpetual rebuild under Jose because he values players for what they can give him right now. We need to build a team that will peak in 2 or 3 years. There is no way Jose could risk his own perceived legacy by doing that - he has to be winning trophies always - although it actually would have added a string to his bow and completely changed his reputation if he could have demonstrated that he was able to achieve this.

It's quite strange how much a decade can change things.

If Mourinho went to Spurs in 2009 it would have been one of the worst moments for me in football (and many Chelsea fans I imagine), fast forward ten years I'm finding it hilarious.

This is the second time Levy has appointed a manager who has crashed and burned at a competitive rival, how gullible is he?

I think he'll get dogs abuse when your play Spurs though now surely?

No chance. He spent a mass amount of money and was one of the highest spenders in Europe. Started sulking when the board didn't approve another centre back signing? he'd spunked close to 100 million on Bailly and lindelof in the 2 windows prior, the board obviously had reservations on why he needed yet another defender. The board are not to blame for Jose at United, he had the resources.

3 months ago if you said Jose would replace Poch you would have been laughed out of the thread suddenly it seems like he's the greatest manager in the world again.....weird. Cant wait for the Levy vs Mou car crash thats incoming.

Possibly but I don't think even going to Spurs is a deal breaker in that regard, Cudicini did the same yet is still a hero here.

I can see him being 10 times worse to us than he was before, especially if we have the upper hand in the clashes, he will not take kindly to his ex player getting the better of him.

It’s certainly going to be interesting. I think Mourinho has got players in the spurs team which suit him better than the players he had at United when he first started.

He likes proven players who show leadership and he certainly has that with Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Eriksen and Kane. He likes pacy and direct players on the wings and he has that with Son and Moura.

I think people will be surprised with how he does there, at least initially before he starts his usual sulks .

All you can really say for now is that he appears to be in a better frame of mind than when he was with us, doesn’t have such intense pressure and expectations on him and isn’t living in a hotel.

Despite everything, he’s still our most successful manager of the post Fergie era and Spurs (sadly) are a better prospect.

Self-obsessed pricks like Mou usually make big deals out of stuff like that. Just look at Donnie Tiny Hands.

It isn't. Just interesting. Which player might get in trouble with him in your opinion, weather he branded them lazy or cause of the general attitude.

I think Jose will have the respect of the players, especially the senior ones. Yes Jose has been well below par in his last 2 appointments but you cant question his CV. I doubt any of the more senior players will have a chance to play under a guy that has won as much, Kane possibly if he leaves. Alli, Eriksen (on recent form), Rose possibly its hard to tell, we don't really have any diva's or people who don't, when motivated, put a shift in.

Is mourinho the first manager to have worked for 3 of the big 6?

Also, Im not fully up with the chelsea vs tottenham rivalry but i would've likened it to a past utd manager working for liverpool.

Alli maybe, clash or personalities, both of them being dicks? :D

Twitter is one of the most horrible human inventions. Ever.
The comment sections are horrible in all forms of social media. Although I don't get how anyone has the patience to shift through all those tweets going back to 7 years.
