We already have the future at the club, up top we have Rashford and Martial and in defense we have Bailly, Tuanzebe and Williams, but they are all really young, so players like Ibra and Fonte give them a couple of seasons development room to bed in at senior level and make their mistakes.
I don't think I've even heard of Williams. How old is he and how good is he?

Ashley Young says hi
Young was a proven, reliable player, like you said Fonte is.Stupid comparison I don't recall young ever been one of the best in the league for his position if you can't see Fonte is one of the best defenders then that's your problem
Jesus it's fecking 8 million can't believe some people he's easily on the same level as smalling and bailly plus bailly will be going away for that African tournament.
This is a good point. Imagine if Smalling gets injured at the same time. I'd hate to see us rely on Blind and Rojo, could derail our season.plus bailly will be going away for that African tournament.

I actually think Fonte is a good signing if we make it but I don't think 'reliable proven PL player' should be a barometer for anyone.
The number of people saying on here that they didn't want Ramos, and they don't want Bonucci because they are 29! Fonte is 32!
It's probably different people saying these things, but still.
I would rather gamble with a youth product like TFM or Tuanzebe. Typical Mourinho signing though.
This was posted yesterday and he's very well connected at Southampton. Most journos following them seem to think he'll sign a new contract.
Southampton wanted Rojo before he joined us. Perhaps a swap deal? Fonte is better in the short term, but Rojo is considerably younger so will be the better long term signing with a reasonable sell on value. Would be a decent deal for both parties.
Yeah I think we'll sell one of them if we're bringing in another centre back. Hopefully Rojo goes.Practically confirms we're selling Jones/Rojo if we're seriously in for him. Jose was already saying the squad is big without McNair, Love etc.
Fonte would be a short term player, and wouldn't cost £40 or £50 million like Bonnuci would.
A solid PL player who'd provide experience. No problem with this if true.
Jones is a shit crock, Rojo is shit, Mensah ain't a CB and Tuanzebe is 18 and hasn't played a single professional game in his life. We have 3 reliable CBs, we need an another one and Fonte would be a good option (especially with Bailly being in Copa Africa in the middle of the season). We have Blind, Baily, Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Mensah plus the likesof Tuanzebe. I don't see any point in signing him even as a backup.
Not outside of this forum. But similarly, I don't get this rush to buy every player who's been consistent for Southampton and the like and expect them to stand up to the spotlight at United. They tend to produce exactly the same quality of football but be dismissed by fans and caftards as 'average' and 'not good enough' because, shock horror, United and Southampton have different standards. It's what happened to Schneiderlin last season, in which he was basically pretty good but because he didn't look like Keane every game and had a couple of bad ones it's suddenly as if he's been a big mistake or something.
Ffs, you've already got about 40% of the forum acting as if Bailly - not kicked a ball in the PL yet - deserves to start more than Smalling - probably the league's second best CB overall last season - simply because he's new and was the best defender at Villarreal for one season, according to the three or four matches that anyone on here is likely to have seen him play.

Would make no sense to let Blind go ahead of Jones IMO. Blind is competent in a number of positions and Jones is, well Jones is Jones. Permacrock.Would that mean one of Jones/Blind would be off?
We've shown that money is no object recently, and that getting the right player is the important thing, and the only thing we as fans should be thinking about.
In a year's time, no-one will be thinking about Pogba's transfer fee.
Surely by now we're sick of buying players of dubious quality who add very little to the team.So what?
If you bring a £50 million player in he has to play. Given Smalling is a likely starter where does that leave Bailly - a player who will need games to adjust to the PL and find his feet.
A player like this makes sense - financially and otherwise. An experienced player to slot in at a sensible fee.
Makes me wonder why didn't we go for Ashley Williams, he and Smalling would of been emense.
Swap deals don't happenSouthampton wanted Rojo before he joined us. Perhaps a swap deal? Fonte is better in the short term, but Rojo is considerably younger so will be the better long term signing with a reasonable sell on value. Would be a decent deal for both parties.
